@@dennis5199 maybe so but Axelsen was still the best player playing at the olympics, for all we know Momota's form could have dropped off without his accident anyways, vant take that away from Axelsen just on a hope
@@dennis5199 the olympics this year absolutely had some fantastic matches this year and even the final where axelsen dominated it was still an enjoyable watch and you have to appreciate his form for that final match against Vitidsarn who was still a very good oponent which just showed the form Axelsen can play at while being under so much pressure
Chen Long was LD's actual successor but Momota was his spiritual successor If not for his personal failings, poor friendship selection, mixed with bad luck, Kento would be the class of this current generation.
If if if. An athlete is build upon his choices. Axelsen has made the right choices and with his 2 Olympic golds and World Championships he has proved to be an ATG. I always liked Momota and feel sorry for his accident. But, he was recovering greatly after his injury but I dont know what then happened.
@@peterhammer6915 Mamota never recovered. The eventual reason he fully retired was that he still had double vision after the eye socket surgery. He'd also lost his confidence on the world tour, domestically he was still dominating and still qualifying for the Japanese A team but world tour level due to the injuries and loss of confidence he struggled to find form. Even after that, he wanted to keep playing, but the double vision was too difficult. Even with Viktor winning 2 Olympic golds, don't get me wrong he is a great player, one of the best even, Mamota is still the greatest player of this generation and i wish him the best of luck coaching the next.
@@mystic5561 i just cant see Momota as a greater player than Axelsen. Its a nobrainer for Axelsen because his achievments are on a another level. Its not possible to use ifs. My son would be one of the best climbers in the world but he got a large nerve damage into his right hand. I am never using the word if. It is what it is. With 2 Olympic golds and Worlds Axelsen is at least top5 of all-time and the best player of his generation.
He was beaten a great player at his prime who beaten axelsen all the time so very easy before he crashed..and people still consider axelsen goat beside him??? 🤡🤡 even LCW and Chen Long better than axelsen how could you even consider axelsen as goat candidates
Huh? So did Axelsen caused the accident? You can’t define legacy on “ifs”. If this if that, the fact is Viktor has accomplished more than LCW, Momota, and CL.
Axelsen has been a champion from a long time . He has held his position and won so many titles from a very young age. He's not some guy who came 2-3 years back. He deserves the G.O.A.T title.
They can't help it. Both have amazing defense that anything less than a full powered body smash to the sidelines will be countered and then capitalized upon. LD is already old here and has to conserve stamina while Momota doesn't have a raw smash strong enough like Lee ZJ to break through during a neutral phase. Match is amazing imo. Momota has near same level of footwork as LD's or maybe even better but LD stroke quality,(having no backswing on strokes and no tells because he plays with relaxed natural grip and therefore no obvious muscle flexes to indicate the type of shot he plays.) is so great that Momota's split step/ready step timing is always a hair behind because he has to wait to read the shuttle flight. On the rallies that he times his ready step well, he wins because he is faster and more fit than LD. But he tires out a bit in 2nd game because his flow is messed up on the other rallies and he loses a lot of stamina due to LD stroke quality as mentioned previously. Amazing example of how important it is to have all your strokes look as similar as possible.
this match is a battle of tactics and attrition, not brain-dead brute power and speed. these two players are likely at the top of the world in terms of badminton IQ, and their games revolve solely around intelligent shot making. a passive game like u mentioned would be Kunlavut vs Naraoka in WC23, that match is utterly horrendous and a disgrace to MS.
legendary not just in the early years and prime but also even as he was retiring. that is extremely extraordinary in any sport.
tell me this wasn’t more interesting than 2024 olympics lol
Olympics is by far the most interesting badminton tournament. Regardless of who wins it. And especially when the best player in the world won it.
