The last one was with Microsoft edge browser, the last line an error appeared like can't locate file... I tried re installing ubuntu software center it says installed successful but i can't find it please help

For some reasons the method for generating a SSH key you used refuse to work for me. I've never managed to reach an Oracle VM with PuTTY. Only with Termius for MAC because it natively support the openssh private key without any conversion.
That actually is free. Sorry but if you're looking for such a beefy trial, NO COMPANY, would ever give a free VPS for a longer period of time with no validation, at the very least they might even ask for document validations but yeah that stuff isn't easy at such scale, so credit card makes it easier. Because it'd just be used for spam purposes, a VM online 24/7 with fast network access can be used to do more harm than you think

After that you will be able to reach you virtual machine by typing the public Ip (the same one you used when connecting via remote desktop) in your browser. after that is just the standard L.A.M.P. configuration to deploy the website/ application

If you're into "that whole brevity thing" you can just connect via ssh using the -i option and the private key you setup. (I do most of my work from the command line...) Should work great from Mac or PC (as he did with Putty). I'm using Ubuntu on my laptop.

I created a ticket (in Oracle Support) and got this response "In the /etc/xrdp/xrdp.ini file, change crypt_level=high to crypt_level=None". Did that but nothing changed (maybe I did it wrong). before you connect with the RDP software on windows just put the resulution on de RDP client lower. I use 1920 x 1080 and it runs propper also you can select the netwerk type you want to use instead of let the system auto choose it. Just check the settings for best preformens.
Hm, I did it according to the video and the RDP speed is really good. I can connect with MS RemoteDesktopClient as well as with guacamole and I can even watch videos on youtube. It might be depended on where your instance is hosted. Honestly as you are experiencing the same issue with AWS I guess the issue is on your side, either your router or network settings or it is just your ISP limiting traffic. Maybe QoS in place?

Please post an update to confirm if this free offer is still valid. My 3 credit cards were declined so I can't register at all. Oracle must have decided to call the whole thing off because millions of users are paying absolutely nothing. Why don't they just offer something like this for £5.00 per month to deter free loaders from registering. I am prepared to pay but I can't even get an account because my Credit cards are declined by US processors.
Careful with this. They require your credit card information for "verification" even if you only use the free offer. Then you must accept a checkbox "start my free trial". I couldn't find wether this trial would just end or turn into a paid account after the trial expires. Since they already have your credit card details at this time, you might not even notice. In the end I had to also click on a button "Start my free trial" and it got stuck there. So I'm guessing if an offer sounds too good to be true, it usually is. I'll be carefully checking my credit card statements of the next few months.

It is sad now that Oracle does not allow you to create this machine with 4 OCPU and 24 GB RAM. I have tried 55 times over the course of 5 days and it keeps saying that the resource center is out of capacity for it....
First, thanks a lot for the information. I selected the Montreal region and it doesn't look like I have options to select another datacenter / zone for that region. I was not able to setup a Ampere in my region (US-EAST) all 3 servers had no availability, instead a created a VM.Standard.E2.1.Micro 1 core , 1GB RAM, 50GB storage, it does tell me will be 2 dollars for boot volume monthly, although, it says always free for compute. The issue is that when I remote in, it shows my desktop I cant control it, it's frozen, I don't know if the issue is lack of resources or something isn't working correctly
Because the cpu is ampare (which i believe is an ARM based processor not x86 Intel type, thinking about it) Virtualbox MAY not install . check the virtualbox website see what it says). Qemu may work instead if it doesent but it is not an area i have looked at. This may also explain why wine / play on linux is you say, not in the package manager. maybe see their websites

It's neat and all and I love the idea but for me it's suuuuuuuuper slow. Just clicking on anything requires a 5-10 second delay. I'm on a fairly fast connection (239mbs) and the remote VM is unusable.
It seems that they require "payment verification", i.e., credit card. It says that I will not be charged, but is a credit card required and you did not mention it, or did I do something wrong and there is a way to create a free tier account without a credit card?
Lost private key to old working instance, so terminated and created a new one. Thing is, can't connect to new one. Does not give login failed, just works as if ip is invalid, no output on connection side. This is with the toronto location. I tried about 8 different configs/settings but no luck.

Hi! Thank you very much, some settings have been moved in the walkthrough, especially the AUTH section of Putty. But worked fine. 2 things just to ask if anyone has the time or inclination to answer: 1. I take it even though we have disabled the lock screen as it can be problematic, this is also an issue with updates that require restart? 2. Oracle says this is £51 / month, even though I followed the instructions to the letter (canonical-Ubuntu 22.04, 4 ampere cores, 24GB RAM, 200GB HDD. Is this what others saw? I have free credit for the month so will see if it goes down so I'm not too worried ATM. Edit: The documentation on the site said the above specifications are part of the always free service, but still estimated the £51 / month charge. Great video - thanks!
@@Mozh644 I have actually stopped using this as the system was unusably slow. I now just pay for Google Cloud Compute - a decent enough system is only 30p / hr and I don't use it that often - maybe 10 hrs a month so it's no issue for me as I like to just mess around. I have read that lowering the colour depth to 16bit helps and set RDP to run at like 80% scale helps - but this system was just far too slow and more of a frustration to use. Clicking 'activities' and the menu loading was a joke to be honest anything else you'll spend most of your time waiting for things to load.
hey there, Ubuntu VPS is working, but it does not allow me to run a node after installing, it says authentication requires to start *****-fullnode service, and after entering ubuntu password nothing happens
It's important to note the firewall rule he created allows RDP from everywhere. Please practice good security and limit access for real world configs.

What do you mean? You can install Ubuntu Server in any VMs on AWS, Azure, GCP, etc. And then install a desktop environment and XRDP into it.

In RDP before launching VDI just lower down the resolution.
Lowering the resolution helps, but still it is not comfortable, cant use for long term. I decided to go for non rdp usage, via command line

Putty GUI changed a bit, to load the ppk navigate to the sub tab credentials. and it's the first browse option there.

Careful with this. They require your credit card information for "verification" even if you only use the free offer. Then you must accept a checkbox "start my free trial". I couldn't find wether this trial would just end or turn into a paid account after the trial expires. Since they already have your credit card details at this time, you might not even notice.
In the end I had to also click on a button "Start my free trial" and it got stuck there. So I'm guessing if an offer sounds too good to be true, it usually is. I'll be carefully checking my credit card statements of the next few months.

It charges about Rs 80 INR which gets refunded in 1-2 days

Try to connect with VNC. You need to create a console connection. If you're using windows, use TightVNC or VNCViewer.

I know Its Been A Year Since This Was Released But Does Anyone Know Why It Costs 1.60 even though i have followed the oracle guidelines for my instance, it keeps saying 1.60 for the boot volume even though I am no were near the max storage allowed on the free program, could anyone help ?
Edit: I know its been a while but short answer to what I said, That 1.60 cost isn't actually real, it is still free even if the cost says its 2.00, although getting a oracle cloud server is far harder know than it was before, if you get lucky then it still works exactly like he showed in the video but it does depend on where you live, in England it is very difficult to get a slot but it will most likely very in experience.

It is sad now that Oracle does not allow you to create this machine with 4 OCPU and 24 GB RAM. I have tried 55 times over the course of 5 days and it keeps saying that the resource center is out of capacity for it....

First, thanks a lot for the information. I selected the Montreal region and it doesn't look like I have options to select another datacenter / zone for that region. I guess I need to keep trying until they free more resources? For now I will play with the micro vm which I was able to create (1 GB, 1 CPU).

thankx it worked to install the mechine i did for the first time and it was up and running and even connected to the putty which i had iissues while connecting putty.. I was not able to setup a Ampere in my region (US-EAST) all 3 servers had no availability, instead a created a VM.Standard.E2.1.Micro 1 core , 1GB RAM, 50GB storage, it does tell me will be 2 dollars for boot volume monthly, although, it says always free for compute. The issue is that when I remote in, it shows my desktop I cant control it, it's frozen, I don't know if the issue is lack of resources or something isn't working correctly

Because the cpu is ampare (which i believe is an ARM based processor not x86 Intel type, thinking about it) Virtualbox MAY not install . check the virtualbox website see what it says). Qemu may work instead if it doesent but it is not an area i have looked at. This may also explain why wine / play on linux is you say, not in the package manager. maybe see their websites

Nahh i can't do anything. i installed Ubuntu 22.04 and i can't find ubuntu software center or any browser i tried installing maybe 4 browser using terminal but i always run into problems. The last one was with Microsoft edge browser, the last line an error appeared like can't locate file... I tried re installing ubuntu software center it says installed successful but i can't find it please help
It's neat and all and I love the idea but for me it's suuuuuuuuper slow. Just clicking on anything requires a 5-10 second delay. I'm on a fairly fast connection (239mbs) and the remote VM is unusable.

Lost private key to old working instance, so terminated and created a new one. Thing is, can't connect to new one. Does not give login failed, just works as if ip is invalid, no output on connection side. This is with the toronto location. I tried about 8 different configs/settings but no luck.

Hi! Thank you very much, some settings have been moved in the walkthrough, especially the AUTH section of Putty. But worked fine. 2 things just to ask if anyone has the time or inclination to answer:
1. I take it even though we have disabled the lock screen as it can be problematic, this is also an issue with updates that require restart?
2. Oracle says this is £51 / month, even though I followed the instructions to the letter (canonical-Ubuntu 22.04, 4 ampere cores, 24GB RAM, 200GB HDD. Is this what others saw? I have free credit for the month so will see if it goes down so I'm not too worried ATM.
Edit: The documentation on the site said the above specifications are part of the always free service, but still estimated the £51 / month charge.

@@Mozh644 I have actually stopped using this as the system was unusably slow. I now just pay for Google Cloud Compute - a decent enough system is only 30p / hr and I don't use it that often - maybe 10 hrs a month so it's no issue for me as I like to just mess around. I have read that lowering the colour depth to 16bit helps and set RDP to run at like 80% scale helps - but this system was just far too slow and more of a frustration to use. Clicking 'activities' and the menu loading was a joke to be honest anything else you'll spend most of your time waiting for things to load.
