Was there any mention of the extreme noxious gases released from the fire drifting over the neighbourhood? ...so much for environmental and climate concerns....
No. No one ever mentions that, but we know from ULEZ zones that air doesn’t blow around so it’s fine it’ll all stay in St John’s 😂😂🤡
Also there is no mention of the contaminated water flowing back into the rivers via the drains
Aaah ,yes, apparently Co2 is the gas of death and the acrid black smoke from Ev fires is the gas of life...
@@GeoffBuysCars Hi Geof , so what happens next time the Police are chasing a stolen BMW or AUDI with 700BHP and the cops in an EV with a max speed of 100mph ? And then out of charge in 20 miles chasing a high power stolen petrol car ?????
Well, in that incredibly edge case scenario (most pursuits are not with nice cars) the same thing that happens now. It's usually well over in 20 minutes and, with that kind of vehicle, it'll be followed by cameras and air support as it's likely too dangerous if the driver is actually making use of that power on public roads.
If anything, the police EV perhaps has an edge on their petrol cars in this scenario as, anywhere but motorway, it's low down torque and acceleration between 20-70mph that'll really matter. EVs ain't bad there.
Atop that, the vast majority of cops aren't authorised to pursue as they have to be trained. I'm not 100% sure but I think the vehicles have to be authorised for the use as well.
Honestly mate, there are loads of good arguments against EVs without that silliness.
Bloody hell! The cost of supplying EVs to public services must be horrendous!!! And there’s no money to warm the elderly ! We need a frigging revolution! Our government is shocking!!!!!

Without you, The MacMaster, 4guy Australia, and StacheD, we would not get all the news about these fires. Thank you.
Did you see that StacheD has been 'invited' to take down his videos about electric bus fires in Canada. Seems like the company, which is now basically insolvent, is concerned about its reputation and the impact on future sales.
StacheD had a recent video pointing out that all the EV fan boys are quoting figures for EV fires that have not been updated for years and even then were wrong. The fires that do not occur due to a traffic accident, much like this one, are not collected into the data sets of traffic regulators that show the ratio of EV fires to ICE fires. The old computer acronym applies here, GIGO.

Hi Geoff,
A work colleague of mine one has this past week had an absolutely horrendous experience in his new EV Skoda Enyaq. He was driving on the motorway late afternoon with his 2 children in the back doing 75 and overtaking in the outside lane when without warning all the cars windows started to drop and the car completely shutdown, no power, no brakes, no hazard lights nothing the power just completely dead, a dashboard flashing like a Christmas tree. He had no warning whatsoever, the only way to warn other drivers was for his son to hang out of the rear window waving his arms to try and warn other drivers flying past at speed. He managed to roll the car to the inside lane, didn’t even make the hard shoulder. They managed to get out and had no choice but to leave the car in situ with a warning triangle placed down the road.
After the car was recovered to Skoda and them having the car for 4 days, they’ve informed him that there’s so many faults that have occurred, they have no idea as to the problem, cause or repair!! The car is brand new and 6wks old!! Now it doesn’t bear thinking about this situation had it been dark, rainy, or limited visibility.
Skoda being part of the Volkswagen Group................
That’s awful! Lucky no one was hurt
Ask him if he’ll do an interview with Geoff? Share awareness/public service type of angle…
That can happen with any vehicle. Usually if you get Christmas tree lights it's a central control module which pretty much all vehicles have nowadays regardless of power type.
I owned a number of vehicles that have cut out and left me stranded. It's unfortunately not that unusual.

Don't be daft. That won't ever work without having a piece of duct tape on there as well.
A friend of ours EV caught fire in the garage attached to her house. The fire brigade had 4 engine's attending the scene hosing down the house to try and stop it catching fire and burning down, they tried to drag the vehicle out of the garage but the heat was so intense it had welded itself to the floor and they couldn't move it. Luckily the house was saved but a fire truck was there for hours dousing down the vehicle just incase it ignited again. They had to dig the floor up of the garage around the vehicle to eventually move it out, the garage was completely destroyed. A fireman afterwards said they were seeing more of these EV fires which is obvious I guess as more people buy them.
EV's are just ticking time bombs. What's more if you have the bad luck of being in one while it's catching fire you'll be locked in with doors that won't open because door handles are also electric.

One thing I will say, I’m a firefighter that covers your area, Geoff, I’ve been to a fair few ICE car fires in the past few months, 24 plate bmw, ford ranger, Citroen (some of which were sat on the driveway not in use) and no electric, now I don’t like electric vehicles and I hopefully never will own one.
Before anybody slates me… I was going to say you can quite comfortably (usually) put out an ICE car fire with a tank of water, obviously if the oil catches and spreads that can be an issue but some of our trucks carry foam that can deal with that, then it’s another tank or two to ensure it’s damped down for safety.
EVs on the other hand seem to be a different ballgame from what I’ve read and heard. If anybody is interested and I apologise for promoting something else, The Firefighters Podcast from Pete Wakefield has some brilliant episodes on EV fires and the challenges etc around them (I haven’t attended an EV fire yet).
Again, this comment is to do with it “should” be easier dealing with a non ev fire over an EV.
Love the content 👍
The current stats suggest that one in twelve cars in the UK are EVs, you quoted three cases so lets see if that stat stands up then. Also apart from the Beemer you don't mention the age of the others, most ICE fires are in vehicles over ten years old, there aren't many EVs that old around.
From a retired firefighter to a current one, stay safe out there.
Your lucky mate... Am aParamedic up north. we have now been issues 3M FF-600 and HF-800 Respirators and told for H&E we MUST wear them round any incidents that are Electic bike/scooter and EV related. No if's or buts as it will be a disciplinary if we don't... Now tell me(not you) EV's are safe...
@ I agree with that mate, I will say for us it’s standard to wear a breathing apparatus set when dealing with any car fires as all of the fumes are toxic, but I agree that the thermal runaway etc fumes are just as bad / worse.
The firefighters podcast by Pete Wakefield has some really good episodes on EVs. Again I’m not backing them as I hate them and I’m quite happy with my diesel..
What scares me is the new housing areas near me ALL have EV chargers…
Fellow Firey here and Professional Engineer. Be exceptionally careful at an EV traction battery fire. Hydrogen cyanide and hydrogen fluoride gases are being released as advised by Professor Paul Christensen, UK, in his TH-cam videos.
The advice we have here in Australia is "keep well away and let it burn" Obviously if there are people inside rescue them but remember if the fire has disabled the car's system battery on cars with no mechnical connection to the door handles, you will have to force your way in.
Most fires on normal cars not going to use the term ice 😂😂 are probably started by faulty wiring or electrical faults that's what Google says 😂😂

And they keep on pushing the lies about these nasty EV's.
High Time Insurance companies stopped insuring these dangerous things or put the premiums up 3-4times that of ICE cars… ships are banning them & multistory car parks are starting to ban these things….
Mult storey car parks were never designed to resist the much higher temperatures that EV fires produce, that's why they can collapse. (Not saying that EV's were to blame but I remember the photos of the Luton Airport car park fire).
Do insurers still pay out on electrical fires in Evs just thinking of what happen in cali and about to happen in Arizona 🤷♀️
Insurance companies are increasing ice car insurance, to offset the losses on electric cars
My car insurance dropped £210 this year.
Back to the good old days , though my Focus ST that I had last year dropped to £225 fully comp from £600 ☹️ gutted I got rid.
I obviously listened to, to much doom and gloom on the net.
I've just seen a video, about 4 parked EV school buses catching fire in the States, too!
in slovenia we just had a fire in highschool students' dorm, one of the photo showed red fire, which probably means something electrical was the cause? like a battery in a scooter or something of the kind?
I not only Google "car fires", I get daily alerts. There is a trend towards "deliberate" and "arson" being added to the articles now.
Unless there is GAP insurance and assuming the EV is financed in some way, the insurance payout at market value will probably not pay the loan off due to depreciation. So deliberate and/or arson is not clever if an insurance payout is the aim.
I love a good conspiracy - the "deliberate" and "arson" line are always interchanged in the same phrase which begs the question, is there a push to imply human caused rather than faulty EVs.
Yes this hateful labour government, will use any excuse to cover up responsibility for electric car fires. Very dangerous vehicles, all Labour politicians should be made to own x drive one.
You forgot to mention that the cause of EV car fires, is the work of the far right!
Government are not educating the public about the dangers of these vehicles, especially the wider risks from lethal combustion products of thermal runaway. Wonder why?
So you think the smoke from a standard vehicle is good for you? 😂
They do not want us to know about the dangers and the hassles of owning an EV. I’ve been explaining about how unsafe these batteries are if they catch fire on various pages and I get torn to shreds by the EVangilists firing incorrect stats & insults back at me. I trained as a UK firefighter last year so learnt all about them. Finally this week the truth appears to be getting into the main stream media 🎉.
And "DANGER TO LIFE/ RISK OF DEATH" working on them.....
No different from the energy used to charge these vehicles comes from power stations which also pollute and energy is lost just getting to your chargers and then energy is lost charging your battery vehicles.
Not to mention one Battery car fire would cause more environmental damage than several Diesel cars for their hole life span on the road.
The Peugeot lasted almost a year.
Not bad for a BEV of french origin.
Almost classic status for an EV; there will be an annual classic BEV show at the NEC starting next year and any EV over six months old will be eligible with prizes for any that still run under their own power
I've just been looking at Google maps for this new estate, I used to live in Malvern Link. Houses sandwiched together. Absolutely insane planning and building.😤
So environmentally friendly! 🤦♂️
Every time I hear about electric car batteries suddenly catching fire it scares me, especially as my neighbour parks her electric car (often plugged in) not more than 10ft away from my front window!
You should speak to them and ask if their car insurance covers your property as well.

Their insurance should cover damage, but I think I'd be more afraid of being hurt.
Same here. I live in a semi and next doors EV is parked within a few feet of my front bay and it seems to be always on charge . Worries me a lot .
Peugoet have always been famous for their electrics ... what could possibly go wrong
I have a heat pump.
Damn thing just doesn't provide enough heat when the outside temp is around 3c. Keeps running defrost cycles every 15 mins or so; it stops providing heat (for about 4 minutes).
And to top it all, it clicks in the immersion heater element in the new style hot water cylinder just to make hot water. The electric meter just loves us when the immersion is on... (in addition to the heat pump).
Definitely is costing a LOT more per annum than running on oil (which is now the cheapest form of heat -Jan 2025).

My last flat had air source heat pump and the wiring and boxes filled my immersion. The bloody thing was useless and I could have heating OR hot water, but not both at the same time, and I had people out repairing it at least 15 times in 18 months, in the end they gave me electric fan heaters. The money I saved was negligible TBH.

I have a hub to control them all but the app is worse than useless and spare parts take months to arrive because the heaters are made in Poland and you struggle to get parts. The difference between ICE and EV fires is that ICE vehicles catch fire due to poor maintenance, EV's catch fire by design. Anyone who uses Lipo batteries in RC models knows only too well that the batteries should be stored at a low storage charge when not in use, never left to charge unattended, and preferably charged in a steel container. Ammo storage crates are the recommended choice. Some hybrids use Nimh batteries that have minimal risk of combusting. Over time Lithium batteries swell up, if you have hundreds in a matrix there is nowhere for the expansion to go. At that point they are a ticking time bomb. Some clowns drive through water in EV's, the only EV that can do that is the Cybertruck, as it has a negative pressure battery, everyone else is kicking off corrosion in the batteries and control systems.
We had government subsiding heat pumps. We are in rentals now.
We have always had a hot water cylinder in the home which fitted in a cupboard and was great for airing clothes. This house has hot water for gas. The size never seemed to be an issue and I wish we still had one. The heat pumps that are on the walls look horrible, the floor level ones aren't that big and tend to heat better.
The problem is they need to be cleaned regularly and professionally. Most landlords never do that so it takes more electricity to heat them and they get noisy. Some properties had new ones, never had professional clean or maintenance in 5 years. The next was old and clunky, landlords refused maintenance would only replace it when it died out.
The current one was hopeless for heating and was incredibly noisy, we finally got it inspected and the outside vents were totally bunged up - we aren't allowed to touch them for insurance purposes. It was a fire risk apparently.
Wouldn't recommend them myself. From New Zealand 🎯💯

Just parked up and not being used, because in Winter, they can't guarantee to get them through a full shift. I also saw a burnt out Hyundai battery car with the telltale burn damage all around the nearside, where the metal bodywork was blued from the heat from the batteries. All I will say, is that it was 'up north'.
If people are made to have electric motabillity cars and are hurt in a fire can they take the council to court for insisting they use electric cars
Possibly, but I reckon the councils are relying on the occupants ‘ not being around’ to sue.
Imagine if the car had been parked in a garage that was under the house ! There is no way I would park a pure electric car anywhere near my home
Looks like the time they finally put the fire out just happened to coincide with the time when there was nothing at all left to burn. Textbook EV fire.

There may be insufficient time to do proper re-charging, and maybe , if her-in-doors is running about constantly on a low battery charge (20-30%), knowing that she's safe to get home in most circumstances on this charge for short journies and further, has been turning up the regen to max to keep the battery in this zone with the only electrical input to the battery being braking regen ?, then the battery chemistry mayl be transported out of its comfort zone.
Whilst most of these cars have battery heating whilst being re-charged at a re-charging station one wonders whether this is operative at all times when running about, particularly during braking regen. Further, one also wonders whether all these cars have a battery and engine management system which restricts re-charging current when the battery is cold e.g. vehicle hasn't been used for a few days, especially during winter and also restricts the power and acceleration that the engine can demand . . .we know from reports that range diminishes during cold weather. . . . further, one wonders why that should be the case when battery heating is available ?
Something has caused the battery chemistry to go "Out-of-design-envelope" poor design, poor manufacture, bad user practice.
All I know is that even lead acid batteries on ICE cars, particularly if only used once a week, must be carefully monitored and cossetted , because modern car electrinics drain the battery even when the car is at rest, with the engine switched -off and the electrionic systems management software can be awoken and kept awake by the slightest inadvertent drain/electrical short and consequently accelerate the loss of electrical power, witness the operation of the "Convenience unit" on most VW group vehicles. . there' s probably an equivalent system on most other makes.
Another great shirt..
Don’t encourage him !!..😂
Geoff buys shirts
We have had two lithium battery factories go up in flames in Melbourne Australia. Altona in the Western suburbs, out my way. And a Lithium Iron Battery factory in moorabbin out my mums way in the South Eastern suburbs. Toxic smoke all over. Are we learning yet government minister. 😢
Buy an EV, wonderful things! Keep buying them until they can no longer be insured and the government has taxed them off the roads. Keep buying them because we have no electricity left in the UK so its ideal to put more load on the grid when there isn't enough wind farts to keep the windmills rotating. There is stupid and then there is this crap!
Never put down to incompetence that which can explained as a meticulously planed and executed act of sabotage by a global network of nefarious old billionaires.
What about the scooter in the rear seats was that electric and was that the cause of the fire?
