same here, I wear my 5610u all the time now. Fell in love as soon as i opened the box. My tudor and speedy don't see any wrist time anymore. Love this watch.
@Addfrwn2 kindda hard to believe tbh, i mean 17 damn i wouldda learnt my mistake after the 16th g-shock purchase. 17 you definatly knew what you were doing.
GW5000U is the perfect watch. I own 30 something watches, never wear the others since I bought this one. The 5610 is a great option too. It's the same watch and a third of the price.
I own both. The 5610u is different in quite a few ways to the GW5000u. The only thing the same is the module (OS). Otherwise, the 5610u has a cheaper, lighter, thin matt steel, 4 screw back. Different colour-way. Slightly cheaper rubber compound in the band.
It's a great watch. I have the GW-M5610 and am tempted to get one of these. Btw, if you turn off the auto illumination, I've found that it stays at high charge easily during the darker months where I live in southwestern Canada near the border.
Technically, I think it’s perhaps the best watch in the world. I have two of the early steel square Gs, the DW-5200C and DW-5600C, but I don’t want them bashed up. This fills the need for a modern version. Analogue wise, I’ll stick to my newly acquired Damasko DS30, which in many ways is a tough GADA tool watch for mechanical timepieces, but for extreme stuff the GW-5000U is the perfect watch. The U version has added so much to this watch, too. Thanks for the great update.
I agree with your review. I bought this watch more than year ago. There are other watches I love but this one has special meaning to me. It is essence of the 80's futuristic design which is also utilitarian, brutal and practical. It has a lot of charm to me. Casio was my first watch I got in the 80's, so...
@simba - yes I agree about the alarms and chimes being quiet on the G-Shock watches. It is the same with my G-Shock Rangeman GW-9400-1 as well, which is my favourite watch. Now I'm using my Casio AE-1200-WHD on a Casio resin strap. The alarm on this one is nearly twice as loud and I can hear it with the countdown timer. I think this one could wake me up from sleep, where my Rangeman, not a chance. Often miss the end of the countdown timer on this, whereas never on the AE-1200. My theory is that I think they are the same loudness in the beeps, but due to the 200m water resistance the seals are better and also the extra shock protection are causing the sound to be quieter on all G-Shocks, compared to the normal Casio watches with up to 100m. My Timex Marathon I've had for over 17 years with 50m water resistance, the beeps are much louder than my G-Shock. That is my only problem with G-Shocks.
@@adsagp agree with you, i have many gshocks and it seems the bigger they get, the quieter the alarm supporting the theory that it's the amount of material silencing it
Bradley, I just want a watch to tell time. Even as a little kid, I was always captivated by watches, and at age 11 bought a men's Timex that must have looked quite comical on my wrist. Back in the 1980s, a friend and I had a side hustle dealing in old mechanical watches. We didn't make much money, but it was a lot of fun. Never cared at all for digital displays, but I must admit, that watch of yours is pretty damned cool. Great show today!
@@stuffandthingsyoutube Here's one for you..... Back in the mid-80s, in a jewelry store in Evansville, IN, an elderly watchmaker there showed me a Swiss wristwatch he had restored. The hallmark showed it to be from the 1920s. The case was rose gold, as was the armature, which was covered with hand-done filigree. And there were ruby bearings everywhere. I passed on it, because $125.00 seemed to high a price! That's how cheap old watches were back then... and how dumb I was.
I am going for the same combo as yours with the combi bracelet V2. Gonna get my GW5000 next month. I think this is the perfect combo. I have done this with my G-5600 E and it has been my daily driver for the last 6 years. I absolutely love it.
Although the watch runs on a solar-powered rechargeable battery and therefore doesn't need to be opened, would it be a good idea to check the caseback rubber gasket at least once a year if the watch is in contact with water practically every day?
I had a Casio G shock for a few years. Great watch but the strap snapped and I had to get a replacement which was pricey. They don’t seem to be able to take the normal straps. Happy to be proved wrong on that point
What You say man is true about putting it on and forgetting about setting the watch... it just shows precise time, it can take a lot of hits, bumps, scratches, the light is very good, ability to set date in european format is also great... almost perfect watch...
Ive used my GW5000-1jf with the old school green light for 4 1/2 years now, monday-friday as my work watch. My job is workshop based and manual labour- so the thing has been through *alot!* Easily one of the best things I’ve ever bought!
Where did you buy your Combi bracelet? I have one of these watches being delivered anyday and I would certainly like to get one for it. Thank you for such a great video!
I don’t think you can go wrong with a G Shock. Especially a digital quartz without hands. No mechanical items to wear out or go faulty. I know G Shocks are very reliable though, so how much a handed version could go errant is something I am not aware of. Anyway, you have the option of resin or metal for the case material in their range, so thats really all you need to thunk about outside of the features you want the watch to perform. A great watch.
Love my gschocks. I have one expensive watch that I never wear and a couple of gshocks. I wear my dw5600 almost everyday and it’s my favorite. Friggin thing cost me a whopping $48. 😂 🤷🏻♂️
I got my 5610U (negative display) a few days ago... What they say my watch is missing compared to the GW-5000 doesn't justify more than double the price in my mind. The GW-5000 is essentially the same, with the only addition being the 'premium' label.
The GW5000 has a steel mid case. The 5610 has a plastic mid case. Once you remove the bezels, the difference is clear. Metal lugs will last forever. The plastic lugs on the 5610 are easily damaged if you are rough when removing the spring bars. The 5610U is an amazing watch, but the 5000 is a step up. The metal squares are step up again with the STN displays. The answer is to get both. I wear the 5610 for super heavy duty work, and wear the 5000 daily. I wear the GMW-B5000 (metal) for something a bit dressy. On some occasions I wear my Sinns and Tudors, but often is just for a day a month to keep them running.
The one the only watch, I regret wasting money on automatics, always was drawn to this one.... The raise wrist and lights up to show time in the dark beats my super luminova on my explorer 2...
Merci ! Merci d'avance!
Great video! Appreciate the 1 year update from someone who actually wore the watch for a year. Can you please link to where you got the official v2 combi? I would love one for my 5000u
Great video! It is good to know that your 5000u can take the concrete and normal rough stuff of daily life. I could quite happily have this a my only watch. I would seriously consider this watch if I have a problem with my other watches. In the meantime I am enjoying my G-Shock Rangeman GW-9400-1 and my Casio AE-1200whd with a changed strap to the resin one. I appreciate your video and insights to the 5000u's durability, accuracy, reliability and toughness.
I have owned and still own a bunch of squares: this GW-5000U too but I sold it because: 1.) the buttons are really stiff (and small) 2.) ultimately I found the looks a bit too bland / boring. But I get the appeal as the (almost) perfect digital one watch collection, for me it's just too much a "Jack of all trades, master of none". I now usually wear of of my three full metal squares (gold, silver and black) to the office /general watch and the super light GW-S5600U (JDM, you have to import it from Japan) with titanium caseback and carbon strap as a sporty/outdoors watch. Tip: if you don't know which G-Shock square to get get the classic red stripe GW-M5610(U): these are like $ 90-120 and easy to resell if you don't like it If you do: welcome to the Square Rabbithole 😁
It is more expensive but if you plan to buy it and use it, it’s worth it. Materials used are way better the one on 5610, especially plastic. I had 5610 and now 5000 and plastic is softer on this one and band is easier to adjust on hand. Really worth the money if it’s worn.
I know one could reasonably prefer the lighter and much more affordable multiband 6 tough solar square, but my problem with those is, as someone who changes the strap/bracelet from time to time, it is actually not difficult to damage the plastic lugs. This itself makes the GW5000U worth the extra money in my opinion.
The watch is good, but a metal lock on the bracelet is not suitable for my work - I have an aluminum laptop and both will have scratches :) I would buy it with a plastic, rubber or textile strap with a plastic lock.
same here, I wear my 5610u all the time now. Fell in love as soon as i opened the box. My tudor and speedy don't see any wrist time anymore. Love this watch.
i accidently bought a whole watch collection. I was trying to order food but accidently kept buying watches.
common mistake
Me too. I accidentally ordered 17 G-Shocks.
@Addfrwn2 kindda hard to believe tbh, i mean 17 damn i wouldda learnt my mistake after the 16th g-shock purchase. 17 you definatly knew what you were doing.
I’ve had the original gw5000 for almost 10 years now. Rock solid.
GW5000U is the perfect watch. I own 30 something watches, never wear the others since I bought this one. The 5610 is a great option too. It's the same watch and a third of the price.
Couldn't agree more!
5610u is good watch too, but too light. 5000u is best square.
Have u use screen protector for ur gw5000?
The size of 5610 is slightly different and you can tell when wearing them (at least on my wrist). Otherwise I agree.
I own both. The 5610u is different in quite a few ways to the GW5000u. The only thing the same is the module (OS). Otherwise, the 5610u has a cheaper, lighter, thin matt steel, 4 screw back. Different colour-way. Slightly cheaper rubber compound in the band.
i have this watch for 2 years now and its by far my favorite watch and I own a couple of different watches. best watch for me!!
Great video, love my GW-5000U. Cheers from Finland.
Thanks for watching!
There is nothing to dislike about that one!

The DK37 might be my next and only automatic, how is your impression about it?
it feels so satisfying to see a watch being well used
Still amazed that they sent you a watch that was triple the price of what you ordered.
Amazing what 50k subs will do! To be fair this was a good review, but this should not amaze you.

Well said!
I had one but the volume on the alarms especially the countdown timer (I use a lot) are so low can't hear it. Luckily I was able to return it.

Not sure! i would assume that the gasket would last for several years.
I had a Casio G shock for a few years. Great watch but the strap snapped and I had to get a replacement which was pricey. They don’t seem to be able to take the normal straps. Happy to be proved wrong on that point
You can replace it with a bracelet model made of resin... it's quite comfortable, cheap and durable.

Where did you get this strap? Pls
Hey is there a link for the version 2 bracelet? Where to buy it from
Thank for the vid, mate!
My pleasure!
I just ordered one on the way from Japan. I can’t wait to get it! Awesome review
Hope you enjoy it!
Just got mine today. So happy to have it
Nice!
Hello Bradley,
Thank you very much for your great video, can you tell me where did you buy this strap, thank you very much again
Google “combi bracelet V2”.
i have the same watch and i love it...i also have uzumaki and all the 14 berserk books like you have!!Good choises

opinions on tempered glass screen protector? someone uploaded a review of their 5610 and the display was all scratched up.
Not a bad idea. Mine has one small scratch after pretty heavy use.
Somebody knows why some seller have the model GW5000U-1 and other have GW5000U-1ER or GW5000U-1JF?
ER - European market, JF - Japan market, they are the same only different regulatory staff like markings and documentation.
@@pone133thanks for this info, I really wanted to know what the difference was, as I ordered the 1ER version
Did you had any trouble fitting this composite bracelet onto this watch? Since the case back is bulkier. Cheers
It was a little bit of a hassle, but not too bad.
Einfach die perfekte Uhr! ❤ Danke fürs Video. Grüsse aus Deutschland zwischen Berlin und Dresden
Thanks so much for watching!
And the best bit is when the bezel gets scuffed and cracks you can buy a new bezel or resin cover for it, fit it and itll look like new.
The 5610 is "prettier" for some reason, but if this had a red stripe (lol), it would be my favorite, second only to the MRG B5000!
Casio is a great watch for the money. Personally, I like analog so the G-Shock Mudmaster is my choice when wearing a quartz.
Good choice!
my favourite watch is the Casio WS-2100H. It looks a bit like a G-Shock but has a step counter is about 1/3rd the price.
Hi can you tell us where you bought the combi bracelet?? I noticed it’s a little glossy compared to other combi
I got it off of a different watch. It's the version 2. It just looks glossy because it's been very well used.

I am told the GW-5000U is quite a bit heavier than my GW-M5610, do you know the weight is?
I don't know the weight difference, but it is noticeably heavier. I still wouldn't call the 5000u heavy though.
Could you share a link for the version 2 bracelet. It looks real nice but I can't find anything close through Amazon
Then look somewhere else.

I got it off of a different watch!
If you wear it every day, why is the charge at M? Serious question...
It dips into Medium charge sometimes in the winter when it's been overcast and rainy for weeks. It's never gotten to Low though.
If it had a volume controlled alarm it would be even better.
Where did you purchase it

Why do you make me want to spend money on a wrist watch!? Dam you Bradley!
Sorry!
I want to know what your wrist circumference is
6.75 inches. Big hands and narrow wrists.
It is FIVE TIMES more expensive than the standard square version.
Currently on Amazon, the 5610 is $97.00 and the 5000u is $263, so technically 2.7 times more expensive. Still a spendy watch though.

❤My favorite G-Shock. A watch for life.
The watch is good, but a metal lock on the bracelet is not suitable for my work - I have an aluminum laptop and both will have scratches :) I would buy it with a plastic, rubber or textile strap with a plastic lock.

Yes, this is the most durable, solid and reliable of all the G-shock squares!
