  • For businesses that are just getting started or business owners who want to be available while they aren’t in the office, forwarding calls to your cell phone can be the best option. That way you can be mobile, responsive, and reliable all at the same time.
I’m Kelsey Johnson from Smith.ai and today I’m going to go over 4 simple ways to have calls forwarded to your cell phone.
If you have your office phone set up through Verizon or AT&T:
    * Pick up your phone and dial *72. Once you hear the tone, dial the cell phone number that you want to forward calls to and wait for a few moments. When the cell phone answers, then call forwarding will be enabled. To disable the forwarding, pick up the same phone and dial *73.
    VoIP
    * On a VoIP system, and with most carriers other than Verizon and AT&T, you can set up call forwarding online. Whether you use Phone.com, Nextiva, Dialpad, or one of the multitudes of other VoIP systems out there, they will all give you a dashboard and/or mobile app where you can set up forwarding, among other things. Sign in and follow the specific instructions to get to your forwarding options. From there, you can add your cell number and have some or all calls forwarded, depending on schedule, availability, and other factors.
Just a note: If your VoIP has a mobile app, you may be able to accept calls on your cell phone directly from the app.
    Call tracking software
    * Call tracking and routing software usually gives you a lot of forwarding options. You can record calls, add menus, set different tracking numbers to determine where calls came from, create schedules, and more. You will also need to set this up via an online dashboard or app. Follow the instructions and add your cell number to have calls forwarded.
    Virtual receptionist service
    * Have a virtual receptionist service like Smith.ai answer your calls. A live, professional receptionist will answer your calls, screen out spammers and unwanted sales calls, qualify leads, and only transfer certain callers to your cell phone. To set up this forwarding, email your receptionist service with your cell phone number and instructions on which callers you’d like transferred. When a caller meets these requirements, we can warm transfer, meaning we call you first to confirm you can take the call, or we can even text you or send a message to Slack or Microsoft Teams to see if you are available to take the call.
