Some things I got wrong: Cinder's phase 1 is actually harder and largely determines how the fight will go, so that bit of info was backwards. The Dancer combo doesn't have to be waited out in the +4 route and can be done on that route. There was also a bit of information left out about why Cinder moved from the end of the run, which was due to a rules change that allowed runners to finish the run whenever they wanted as long as all bosses were cleared and they linked the flame at some point during the run.
The twitch link you have for Coltrane45 in the video description is the wrong guy. He dropped the 45 when he stopped running dark souls (not sure why). Anyways, this is the correct Twitch link m.twitch.tv/coltrane_
@Jinxed Swashbuckler There was a time where the estoc was switched to the left hand because it attacked slightly faster. Wasn't paying attention but it could have been an L1 depending on the patch
@@ScharAznable yeah i would have no idea how to spot the difference, but yeah the NPC has a name above his head like how players would look like normally, is this done intentionally to make it look like players?
@@raafmaat yeah its intentional to keep it like its just a normal invasion. you can only tell because Longfinger Kirk is the NPC name and he always invades in specific spots
I reckon pretty well none of us even thought twice about it until you pointed it out to us. I even started to say: 'yeah, what's wrong with that?', to myself, that's one hell of a self report.
I just found about this channel, nice! Your narration has improved a lot too, good work, please keep these coming :D By the way I think most of us are in it for the crazy technical explanations rather than the record chronology actually, if that's of any help.
When I was making the video I thought tying the story threads arouns the bosses was the way to go, it looked really well in script, but it's obvious to me in execution that it was a mistake. Whenever I do another of these (probably not until late spring) I'll be weighting the glitch discoveries and route changes more over the chronology of the runs.
@@Abyssoft Well it was the obvious way to go in a "World Record Progression" vid, but as we discussed the title this kind of content has acquired doesn't quite reflect the audience's expectations. So yeah, probably make the new techs and skips the plot points next time and just focus more on them. Glad to see we're on the same page, keep up the good work.
At first i somehow missed the summoning salt touch but now ive binged all your vids and i like your take equally this channel is a quality addition to the genre and i hope more viewers loving these videos will find their way to you wish you all the best
Thanks for the vid, not often I set reminders on videos! (but then I was busy during the 'premiere' so I'm only watching now...) Keep up the great work, best speedrunning channel after Summoning Salt
Your history videos are really enjoyable to watch. I think that is because you explain everything very clearly so even people who didn't play the game or who played it a long time ago can enjoy these! Great work!
At first I thought this was so long, but then I watched the first 30 minutes and realized just how many bosses there are where strats changed. Keep up the hard work and your channel will grow in no time!
If you care for a critique: The pacing at the beginning of the video is very off putting, like how you go straight from Gundyr to Highwall, then mention Firelink shrine afterwards to talk about titanite and gems. Then jumping to the topic of a late game boss like Yhorm, and to the DLC boss Midir. If more time was spent at the beginning to talk about the route as a whole, then discuss upgrades and strategies used, it would do the coherency of the video a favor. Just a thought.
The entire video is a mess, I tried to craft a narrative around the bosses which looked good on paper but failed in execution. I doubt I'll ever redo a video, but if I did this would be the top candidate.
it's honestly a pretty great game even if you already know most of it before playing. before i even had a ps4 i watched an entire playthrough if it, and i still had fun playing, because overcoming these bosses is simply such a joy.
Enjoyed the video! Hope to see ds1 and 2. My only suggestion is it was a little bit confusing how you jumped back in fourth in the timeline of progressing the game. I was able to follow because I know the game well but I think that’s the only thing I would change. Great video brother!
17:44 Is it intended that the moment when Nemz is first introduced, Foole is also present in the chat on the top right? P.S. thanks for the effort of making this documentary.
Great vid! This isn’t meant as an insult, at all...but you are my 2nd fav progression creator! I’ve gone through a lot of channels, and you are by far, vway up the top!
This was very interesting and highly informative. Some of your commentary audio clips were lower than others so I had to turn up the volume, which ended up making the other parts too loud in comparison.
little misconception, people think this is really difficult. no bash at youtubers that don't crack it first time because obviously everyone has to start somewhere but even cheap/free software (audacity works) and a few TH-cam tutorials/ hours of practice later, basic volume mixing of different clips is far from difficult, there is even more advanced software that can normalise all audio for you with a few clicks. always worth learning some basic audio mixing when putting long videos together
37:30 It's actually not that one has a ranged attack, they have phases in which they go into physical to ranged mode and viceversa, usually with a timing such that each has the complementary phase going on. Still, they can and will overlap XD
presumably the first runner must have had early access to the game - maybe as a developer or play tester - or maybe there was some beta early release sent out to a chosen few?
It's funny to hear that Yhorm is tricky 'cos I beat him on my very first try. It took my like a minute. It would be no-hit but I took a little brake to see if he did not glitch 'cos he couldn't do anything. He was just standing there. Finally he hit me once and I finished him. Weird. It was on Steam GOTY version.
Sooooo, is there a reason Dark Souls gets a loading screen pass while other games don't in speedrunning? I honestly never got why loading screens were factored into times anyway, especially with games that have different versions being ran on different hardware that will naturally have faster load times.
