That's our "Animal ". ( The band mates lovingly call him their " freak of nature "LoL. And, this is an older version. You should see what he can do with his looper! ( I may have a huge crush on this man) He does this, loves his cats, grows his hair out to donate for wigs for cancer patients and has hobbies and interests that makes my internal geek girl swoon. What's not to love?! Thanks for the Home Free reactions!
People don’t do that. Adam does that he’s a one of a kind. Kinda like your beautiful things and expressions you have that make us love you your a one of a kind also. Keep up the great videos.
When a man loves a woman is done quite well... Really, in my opinion, anything Homefree does and is available would be worth your time. Homefries love to watch your reaction to world class acapella to nearly any genre, from Boys to Men, country, rock, and even opera... They're fantastic. Never a dull moment.
The incomparable Adam Rupp--beatboxer and vocal percussionist extraordinaire!! Home Free's secret weapon❣️🎼🥰🎶❤️ I don't know that anyone has ever actually publicized Adam's range, but I sincerely believe his is the widest vocal range of all the Home Free fellas 💕 And if you want to get a good dose of our amazing HF beatboxer singing, check out "Guilty Pleasures Hilariously Derailed". It's a longer video but SO worth it!! #AdamRupp
There's a clip on TH-cam from one of their concerts, where they sing "9 to 5 - Beatboxing Breakdown" - you should watch that, not only is it a great song, it's them, and it's got a lovely long beatbox sequence that WILL surprize you.
I think the first " acapella group" you may have heard was actually "RockAPella". They were used in a Children's PBS television show, Where In The World Is Carmen San Diego.
Adam does a solo in the middle of every concert. Now he uses a looper to create his own song it’s amazing. During Christmas shows he has done Carol Of The Bells solo. He taught himself how to beatbox when he was in college when him and his brother Chris decided to start Home Free in 2001.He’s the best IMO 😊
@@LynnRamsay I just saw this new video come up from this week's concert in Wisconsin Dells. Absolutely the best one I've seen. Almost as good as being there - and the video is good, too. th-cam.com/video/EMUFB8GeJcQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=qkZlG87T_IBEPnNi
Have heard Adam twice and passed him on the street once: walking for his health, eyes downcast, attracting no attention. But, I sure wanted to step in front and make eye contact. I'm such a fan!
Adam learned how to play actual drums to be sure his movements were correct. Also, he never did any beatboxing until he and his brother formed Home Free. He got the task of being the beatboxer.
He didn't start learning beatboxing until he and his brother Chris formed Home Free in 2000. This is from several years ago and he's even better now - you should check out some of his more recent performances where he uses a looper. Just amazing.
Please realize that Adam's repertoire of sounds includes the nomonica, which is prominently featured in Home Free's cover of Ain't Goin' Down 'Til the Sun Comes Up. Also, glad that you are feeling better.
Yes. This is a regular part of the live show. Yes. All the guys can beatbox to some degree. Austin and Adam Rupp did a "harmonica" duet at one point in the show I saw. Adam Chance and Austin will often be the "guitar" you hear behind the vocals. Adam Chance was the "jaw harp" in "Man of Constant Sorrow" and Tim does some of the drums (in Rob's face) in the "Butts Medley".
Rupp majored in trumpet performance, which taught him the "circle breathing" that he uses while beatboxing. It also means that his parents probably spent more time listening to him learn the trumpet than they did listening to him beatbox.
Yes he has a drum solo in their shows. At least on the 3 I've seen. You should check out "Misty Mountains" by Peter Hollens and Tim Foust their bass singer. It's other worldly.
The heartbeat of Home Free. So amazing. He has expanded his repertoire to include a looper, which they also use in concert for selected background vocals. He uses it in his solo to allow him to harmonize with himself. His version of Carol of the Bells in their Christmas show is amazing. I don't know if there are videos from this tour, but there are some from 2022.
Love Adam Rupp & his insane talent. He is the best out there in my opinion. He simulates the sounds of a drum perfectly. Many drummers have commented on how good he is. He sounds so realistic. His breath control must be crazy. I heard he makes the sounds both while inhaling & exhaling. This was a few years ago & hard to believe but he is even better now. Adam is the glue that holds Home Free together. He is their secret weapon which other a cappella groups can't match.
Yes, Adam is a master of beatboxing and that’s why Home Free doesn’t need instruments! I don’t know how he does it either. How does he breathe? All the guys can beatbox to a degree. Yes, every concert the boys take a break and he does the solo and then when they come back they usually do a quiet song without beatboxing so Adam can take a break. He’s just amazing!!! Hope you’re feeling better!🥰🤩
Adam is fantastic I was lucky enough to go to one of their concerts and see and hear Adam do his beatboxing solo in the middle of the show/party with Tim as the funny MC such fun and they sound just like they do on the videos sometimes better. Was such a wonderful night I didn't want it to end.
This one is a very close version to the first/earliest drum solo where he's wearing the red plaid shirt. I think it was when they got back on tour after the quarantine was when he started using a looping station. Still a cappella beatboxing since there are no instruments. He's just able to get more that one layer of his voice. The group did an office themed version of Dolly Parton's 9 to 5 which I highly recommend, then follow up with they stage version of it, called 9 to 5 + Beatboxing Breakdown where they all get a chance to show off their beatboxing skills.
That’s a great overview of some of the things he does but I personally think his best is the way he can completely replicate every single part of a drum kit with its sound and timbre. Enjoyed seeing this one! Thanks, low bass Kenneth
Adam, the magic man!! I saw HF a couple of months ago. Adam's solo was incredible!! He's gotten even better since this was in 2015. This usually the video people go to
Adam Rupp really is an alien - he has a terrific vocal range, a degree in trumpet and also plays piano, drums, guitar and just about anything else he chooses to take up. His beatboxing is incomparable and, like his bandmates, he has a weird sense of humor. A running joke is his taste in food (watch "What Christmas Means to Me" and, after Christmas "BHH+WWTWWS" for examples).
The top tier vocal percussionists are mind boggling! I think of them as sound effect maestros. Many (particularly Home Fries) will insist Adam is THE best. Others might have THEIR 'favorite.' The three MOST well-known are Adam Rupp (who you already know), Layne Stein (VoicePlay), and Kevin Olusola, or KO (Pentatonix). Seriously... they are all so good that it's more personal preference than any objective measure of 'ranking.' This performance by Adam is one of the best, most comprehensive demonstrations of the craft that I've seen. He doesn't do his 'nomonica' in this, but you heard that in "Man of Constant Sorrow." Adam is incredible! Great reaction! You obviously enjoyed yourself!
As always, loved your reaction to Mr. Beat Boxing extraordinaire. And all the guys can do some beat boxing but not to the level of Adam Rupp. They demonstrate this when they did Nine To Five with beat boxing breakdown. When Tim does his solo Doo Wop songs, he is doing all the parts including the beat boxing. He did a full album entitled Pieces of Me of Doo Wop songs and he has dropped a few videos of songs on that album. Those are all worth checking out. I have loved everyone of them. All the guys are very talented on their own and have done solo work or collaborations with other artists apart from Home Free. But they really shine when they sing together. The group dynamic of these guys is what really sets them apart. Love your reactions and looking forward to your next one. Yes, When a Man Loves a Woman is a great one to cover. This was done during lock down so the guys were not together in the studio. But Austin's fiance, Amberly, was sitting just off camera and that is who he is making those eyes at. You will see what I mean when you watch the video.
So happy you chose to react to this… Adams is so amazing!! He’s always learning a new percussion sound… Be sure to listen to see shanty medley or he actually makes the cast net sounds with his mouth towards the end of this song! And here’s a fun song for you to listen to it was done by home free or while ago…It’s called country fried pop… It’s a mash up of about 15 different pop songs that are blended together seamlessly!! Nice reaction
It is so fun to watch the kids in the audience try to copy him! Always brings the house down to a well-deserved standing O! He blew the speakers in concert a couple of weeks ago.
Great reaction RHN! I've said this on several other reaction channels in the past. TH-cam has some great a cappella groups and they all have fantastic vocals. However, IMO, this man pushes Home Free to the top. They have recently posted tour dates for 2024. If they go anywhere close to where you are, make sure to go see them. You will definitely enjoy the show and the music.
My favorite is where he is wearing a faded red flannel shirt and Tim introduces Adam by saying some people still don't believe we're Acapella. So how about a drum solo.
Adam's a beast! This isn't the video we normally suggest first, but it's basically the same performance. I personally think there's a bit more humor in the other one. This was great though! Thanks Red. 🖤🍟
What you suggested as brushes, I would argue as a "loose Hi-Hat" It's when the Hat is not fully closed. I get what you are hearing and respect it. Drummer for over 30 years, to add context.

There a video (or two) where they’re performing Dolly Parton’s 9 to 5 and there’s a group beatbox breakdown. It’s really good! There are two different ones: One with Chris Rupp, and another after Chance joined them in 2016. Either or both are worth checking out. Chris and Chance both did a little something different than the other. Oh, there’s another video (short) on Home Free’s IG (it may be on TH-cam) where Tim, Chance and Rob did a video for a fan request of a snippet of Steve Miller’s “Rockin’ Me Baby” and Tim beatboxes. I’ve watched that one at least a couple of dozen times! Lol Adam is a phenomenal beatboxer! I don’t know how he does it, but he always amazes us with this talent. He changes up his solo up once in awhile to keep it fresh. He does perform his solo around the middle of their live show so the guys can rest their voices. Feeling that “drop the bass” in the audience is quite a thrill, and the same for when Tim drops his very low bass notes.
Again you may already know. In the early videos the guy in the cowboy hat is adams brother Chris. Adam chance took his place. O Adam rupp started the group in .2001.
If you like solo beatboxing there’s a whole world of talented beatboxers with their own unique styles and sound sets. I’d suggest Show-Go - You’re Gone as a popular one to check out!
I would like to see a double reaction of "Champagne Taste on a Beer Budget" and "Full of Cheer". It must be done in that order because the 2nd is the sequel to the 1st.
This one is good too. I actually prefer his earlier version. When you search for this solo of his, look for the one where he is wearing a red plaid shirt. It not only has a better drum solo, but also a DJ show with his voice.
It was a very wise choice to view one of Adam's "drum solos" fairly early in your HF exploration. With a handful of exceptions, Adam's beatboxing is a fundamental part of HF's performances...but he rarely gets what the singers would call a solo. "When a Man Loves a Woman" is a showstopper! The tune is soul music from 1966 -- written and originally performed by Percy Sledge. It's a perfect match for Austin's voice, and he KILLS it. More than a few long-time fans of the song now consider HF's version to be superior to the original. You definitely want the studio version: th-cam.com/video/-pygPmfGQvU/w-d-xo.html They recorded it in pieces during the COVID quarantine. Rob, Tim, Adam, and Chance used home studios to record their parts and send them to HF's sound engineer (the guy who's home they "invaded" in "Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer".) Austin sang the lead in HF's main studio, and they used the TV monitors as the way to create the impression that they were all singing in a group in one place.
I sorta-kinda know how he does it, for instance having tried a little beatboxing (and been rubbish) I know that some sounds are done on the inbreath so he doesn't have to pause to breathe very often. Knowing it's possible doesn't make it any less impressive, though - getting the drumkit sounds so accurate is insane. And yes, it's even better live!
The "old" band that you are probably thinking of may have been "Rockapella" They were with the show "Where in the world is Carman Sandiego" is that who you were thinking of?
Impressive! Adam, in my opinion, is the best of the a cappella group percussionists! He's been honing his craft for over 20 years and just gets better. It's good to see you feeling better and bouncing to the beat!
When a man loves a woman.👍 Going way back you need to watch when they did (burning ring of fire)and I know you can guess who sang that. 😊That's when I seen them for the first time.
Great reaction, Red! Thanks for sharing! Now you know why we (Home Fries) call Adam a Freak of Nature ;-) I actually prefer his video from 8 years ago, red/white plaid shirt and no bandana. I just think the sound quality is better. The only person I've seen who does it better is Michael Winslow who does not just beatboxing but complete sound effects. He does a spot on impression of Led Zepplin and Jimi Hendrix. I included links to the video of Adam I like and Michael Winslow in one of your previous Home Free reactions, but it appears the post was deleted.
Just to let ya know he has newer ones out there. A sense ya like drum 🥁 solos…. Check out “Neil Peart’s” drum 🥁 solo. He was the drummer 🥁 for the band Rush
I think the acapalla group you mentioned I listened to also. However, this was back in the 80s 90s which means you would have to have been a young child.
Hello, I just discovered your channel about a week ago and had to subscribe.....You are very close to becoming a "Home Fry!" .... if you want to stay with a holiday great from Home Free you should really review " Mary did you know?" it will give you chills and goose bumps.....or if you would just like to have some fun and a good laugh (and see them with a great performance) , you need to see " the Butt Remix" .. thank you for the hard work you put into your channel , God Bless and happy Holidays.
OK Ms Redhead, I just remembered a song for you to react to that MAY shoot up your chart... Home Free's cover of Patsy Cline's *Crazy.* Am I right, am I right, am I right? LOL
Larry was an old piece of lasso who steps into a bar one day for a drink. The bartender looks at him suspiciously and says, “Hey, Pal, we don’t serve ropes here.” Larry steps outside, ties himself into a clove hitch and unravels one of his ends into a feathery mess. He goes back inside and in a low voice says, “Beer, please.” Bartender says, “Hey. aren’t you that rope who was just in here?” Larry replies, “No, I’m a frayed knot.”
That's our "Animal ". ( The band mates lovingly call him their " freak of nature "LoL. And, this is an older version. You should see what he can do with his looper!
Hi Red, you have to have a listen DLow, 2019 world beatbox champ.... "Sing a little harmony..." or "Sun Parades"
Sometimes people see his long drum runs and they're like "how does he breathe?"
I mean, it's clear, isn't it? His species has gills. No mystery there.
😄
Adam does a beatboxing solo or feature at every show
Love that
Their 9 to 5 beatboxing breakdown. It's phone footage from a concert. All the guys are beatboxing.
I went to college with a couple of founding members for Acappella.
My mind is blown..
Like the hair. I am a ginger too.
Hey, Ginger!!!!
The "old" band that you are probably thinking of may have been "Rockapella" They were with the show "Where in the world is Carman Sandiego" is that who you were thinking of?
ACapella is the name of the group. They were back in the 80s when I saw them
Impressive! Adam, in my opinion, is the best of the a cappella group percussionists! He's been honing his craft for over 20 years and just gets better. It's good to see you feeling better and bouncing to the beat!
Thank you. I’m doing better💕
When a man loves a woman.👍
Going way back you need to watch when they did (burning ring of fire)and I know you can guess who sang that. 😊That's when I seen them for the first time.
Gotta see that one
Great reaction, Red! Thanks for sharing! Now you know why we (Home Fries) call Adam a Freak of Nature ;-) I actually prefer his video from 8 years ago, red/white plaid shirt and no bandana. I just think the sound quality is better. The only person I've seen who does it better is Michael Winslow who does not just beatboxing but complete sound effects. He does a spot on impression of Led Zepplin and Jimi Hendrix.
I included links to the video of Adam I like and Michael Winslow in one of your previous Home Free reactions, but it appears the post was deleted.
That sounds interesting. 🔥🔥🔥
He’s the best!! And so very humble about it. Just love these boys! Great reaction ❤
He did a Tim, about a week ago bey breaking the sound board with his low tones. Tim has did it a few times.
Seriously? Whoa!
Just to let ya know he has newer ones out there. A sense ya like drum 🥁 solos…. Check out “Neil Peart’s” drum 🥁 solo. He was the drummer 🥁 for the band Rush
I love Neal!
i suggest watching “Wing Grand Beatbox Battle Elimination 2023”. he is one of the best beatboxers in the world.
Red, I've never seen anybody try so hard not to dance. 🤣
Lol!
I think the acapalla group you mentioned I listened to also. However, this was back in the 80s 90s which means you would have to have been a young child.
I was a teenager then.
💕
@redheadedneighbor Keith Lancaster that started and sang with them originally leads singing where my ex attends church.
Check out their 9 to 5 beatbox breakdown ....i think you'll love it
I think I will, too
You should check out their 9 to 5 live with beatbox breakdown

What does a thesaurus eat for breakfast? A synonym roll.
I’d eat that!
OK Ms Redhead, I just remembered a song for you to react to that MAY shoot up your chart... Home Free's cover of Patsy Cline's *Crazy.* Am I right, am I right, am I right? LOL
Lol!💕
@@redheadedneighbor I"m guessing you know the song?
@@billwieland8497 I do, very well.😊
Don't quote me on this, but I believe he uses "circular breathing" to be able to do those long sequences no one else can.
If you like drums you need to react to Neil Pert drum solo.
I love him.
Larry was an old piece of lasso who steps into a bar one day for a drink. The bartender looks at him suspiciously and says, “Hey, Pal, we don’t serve ropes here.”
Larry steps outside, ties himself into a clove hitch and unravels one of his ends into a feathery mess. He goes back inside and in a low voice says, “Beer, please.” Bartender says, “Hey. aren’t you that rope who was just in here?” Larry replies, “No, I’m a frayed knot.”
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Adam is the best! 👍👍👍
