    Thank you for the great ideas and plans!! We put one in place of a non functional water wheel and we couldn’t be happier!!

    Neat and quick, love it. 2 thoughts: 1) plumbers epoxy putty or silicone caulk to seal the axle from the inside would be easier and cheaper than the uniseals. 2) its a tiny bit tail heavy and rocks back before you get the full charge of water to empty out. the axle is often below the centerline so that the weight shifts when tipping allowing it to discharge much more before tipping back. You could glue a couple of weights to the tube above and slightly forward of the axle so that when empty it is just wanting to tip back, that way you get a bigger surge from it for your siphon.

    If you run 100 grit sandpaper in one direction multiple times it will create a wood grain appearance.
    If you leave it alone for a few weeks after that it will yellow.
    You can then coat it in shellac and then spar urethane to make it blend in with the stand and weatherproof it.

    I'm excited to see where this is going with the sudden surge idea. I had a similar thought for producing electricity to charge a battery, but with less water than the ram pumps could keep up with.

      thank you. The placement of the pivot point seems important. Other than that it is an easy build.

  • @machstormrunner3130

    First off, this is really cool. Way to get out there and make a thing. That's always awesome. Now, a suggestion, in a traditional "deer scare", the bamboo sections means that only the front third fills with water. This means you get a full empty every time and the front as well as the back impact the base. If you used two peices of pvc with something in the middle you could do without the seals around the pivot because that section would always be dry.
    You've inspired me. I'll see if I can make something like this and have it be as simple and effective as yours. Thanks!

      Thank you for watching! I actually made this very fast to use as a sudden surge for starting a U siphon. I expect there are several design improvements that can be made. Getting you thinking about making your own version is all I can ask for! haha Let me know how it comes out.

    Great tutorial. Can you advise what would be an approximate good distance from the front and rear to the pivot point, to give it a good balance? Thank you

    • @LandtoHouse
      @LandtoHouse  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I imagine the pivotal point will change based on the length of the pipe and brand of end cap and a few other factors. I just held on to the pipe and felt where it would tip over.

    thats a nice looking one. Ive built lots of odoshis and sometimes it works on the first time and other times it takes all day to tinker with lol. Keep in mind if you have to strong of a pump, the weight of the water hitting that lip wont let it tip back, and I find the more vertical it is the easier it seems to do what you want., because there gets to be more weight at the top. the I made holds about 3 gallons.

      Master Caster whats the use of this?
      or is it just a waste of resorces?

    • @LandtoHouse
      @LandtoHouse  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did notice that there was an issue when I poured too much water at a time. It caused the pipe to fall faster than it would with a slow flow. I spent a good bit of time holding the pipe before making the holes to see what spot was the ... fulcrum I guess is the right term.

    • @LandtoHouse
      @LandtoHouse  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The original use was in a Japanese garden to scare away wildlife with the sound of the clonk. I am using it to supply a large sudden flow of water to a u siphon.

      @crapsterface 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It scares away deer and rabbits and things, myn is set up in my garden and I dont even need a fence anymore. so it dual purposes, It looks better ( just a bit better ) then the one I hade a video of before lol. no its not a waste of resources, Its a way to overmass the speed of the pump when the siphon starts trickling. if you dont overmass it they will cancel eachother out and it wont siphon, just circulate. The meditation thing I dont do alot of But ive notice I like having the splashing around, I have it splashing on rocks. just have to set them up in a way it dosent plash the water out of the resivior

  • @clinthartzler8216

    probably been mentioned before, cue efficiency eyerolls. does the level in the tube before tipping not allow for a larger relief cut on the top (lower angle cut) to allow the water to still drip down vertically and pour into the tube while in the dump position instead of flowing onto the pvc pipe into undesired locations and create waste/spray? if so, could a weight be added to increase the dump frequency, lower the surge volume, but also increase efficiency overall? i suppose a large tube in conjunction with weights would be required to meet the same surge potential.

    • @LandtoHouse
      @LandtoHouse  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      This project was actually just made to allow a ram pump low flow to start a U siphon. I am sure that there are many ways of improving the efficiency of the pvc shishi odoshi. Thank you for the comment.

    IS it not wastage of Water which is already short in Earth
    You must add a device to reuse the water again and again

    • @LandtoHouse
      @LandtoHouse  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      This was just a "how to build" video. It would be nice to have a small pump that would return the water. But then one might argue that it is a waste to have a small pump running :)

    I guess the second uni-seal was inserted inside to avoid it popping out while pushing the pipe through, why not insert it from the outside, cut the 3/4" pipe 1" longer, then cut a 45° angle to make it easier to insert once it's in saw off the extra piece.
    Overall great vid.

    • @LandtoHouse
      @LandtoHouse  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes that is why I installed it in that direction. I am sure there are many ways to improve this simple design. To be honest I made this quickly so that I could test a low flow auto siphon. (A ram pump filled the shishi odoshi that then dumped into a bucket to start the U siphon.)

    • @johnstryker8619
      @johnstryker8619 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Land to House that's right you mentioned you should make a pvc base.

    • @kuhrd
      @kuhrd 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You could also use a stainless or aluminum rod through the center PVC and make the rest of the base out of the same metal. If you plan to have this running for a long time in direct sunlight it would also be a good idea to use UV resistant PVC or paint it to prevent it from becoming brittle over time.

    • @LandtoHouse
      @LandtoHouse  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nice idea. That rod would allow for better displacement of weight across the base. A good UV paint would be ideal. That would also make it look a lot better.

    Why waste the money and complication of the seals when you can drill your pivot hole to fit a 3/4 pipe and just glue the pipe around the hole and the pivot is water tight. Then just use a smaller pipe, run it thru the 3/4 pipe to attach to the stand for your axle. Much simpler and cheaper to make.

    • @LandtoHouse

      Nice to find that my video has you thinking! That would work just fine. I made this in a hurry so I could use it as a low flow start to an auto siphon. I am sure there are many ways to improve the design.

    • @LandtoHouse
      @LandtoHouse  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +ed koga haha. The reason I built this was to have a sudden surge of water fed by a hydraulic ram pump to run an automatic U siphon. Traditionally this was used as a means to scare deer out of the garden. So to some it may be a worthless Gadget but to some it serves a very practical purpose.
