    do not agree at all. ive just sent my crystal back - all the hype is completely ott - slightly better vert fov and sharper clarity over more of image - thats it. all this 'WOW im amazed' blah blah is completely exaggerated. absolutely no point in upgrading from g2 to crystal.

    Dear Josh Zuino
    Luke ross VR modded games (Cyberpunk , Zero Horizon Dawn ect) is working with Pimax Crystal? Can you use open xr layer or just steam VR?

    Furthermore can you play also praydog Resident Evil VR mod and the crystal controllers are working ?
    Because my G2 working very well with these modded games in open xr mode and i can achive affordable fps with my rtx 4080 and it will be very
    important question because i would like to upgrade my G2 if these are workign with also Pimax Crystal.

    Microsoft are stupid. They abandons nearly everything good they create. WMR headset were the first inside out headset. Why they didn’t protected the idea? They had simply to bring more cameras for the tracking and improve resolution and glass quality from fresnel lenses. I have the odyssey from many years now and the resolution is 2880 x 1600 and OLED with perfect black and nice colors. The screendoor effect is minimum and not square rectangle visible but more like cathodic old tv fine pixels. It is good. Windows recognizes the headset immediately and the desktop works well on the wmr home. It works with steam vr and with extensions was working with oculus and vive. What stupid guys iare Microsoft to abandon something that works very well. I am very angry. They simply needed to create a simple runtime to play openvr games well optimized that don’t use big resources in the background and create an interface desktop application separate from the runtime, that is not mandatory to run games and steam vr. And it would have been the new standard. If they would have created a g3 with 2880x 2880 per eyes foveating rendering nice audio and the optimized architecture , it would be super good.
    They could have put camera under the headset for low coverage and cameras on the side of the headset, and finally camera on the top of the headset for high and rear coverage.
    New controller with finger tracking and a collection of application educative like museum visit and technologies courses and game to support the platform. Like an encyclopedia encarta but with vr learning…WMR would be on top. Then bring the engine to xbox and a headset with battery and wireless to use these games and app on the console. …no They abandons everything. They had the perfect software to support their headset with flight simulators and racing games.. what a pity.

    I have the Reverb G2, the lenses and display are fantastic, but the IPD max range is too small and doesn't go over 70mm, so useless for someone with 75mm IPD. The face mask is very narrow and only suits people with narrow or small heads. It is rubbish in my mind, I couldn't even find someone to buy it second hand.
    I have the Pimax 8KX, so it will be a while before I get a new Pimax. I'm waiting for the Crystal to be out for a while before considering it. I think it is cool, but I know setting up my 8KX two years ago was a chore.

      Of course not! This is more of a generational comparison based on the recommendations of many reviewers and streamers that have previously said that you should purchase the G2 for sim titles. Well, I just tried the Pimax Crystal with the settings of Pimax "How to run MSFS2020 on a 3080 with pimax crystal" a copy of Tetiana DiscoVR and contrary to everyone I found that with my old Reverb G2 I can read instruments better and outside view is sharper. Only the brightness of Pimax is better. So what is wrong with those settings?

      Hey mate, I can't elaborate how clear this is. A generational leap in technology for sure. Whilst the G2 v2 is amazingly clear there truly is no comparison to this. I don't have to turn my head at all in DCS to read anything which is definitely not the case with my G2 v2. Hope that helps.

    I wish the pimax was not so huge or had better fov. So close yet so far..

    • @RJ-kr4bs
      @RJ-kr4bs ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It's large for two reasons: Pimax is working on the 12k version simultaneously for release next year, and they want all the faceplates and other accessories to be compatible with either model, and to save a ton of money on plastic-tooling costs. Users report that unless you're doing vigorous room-scale gaming, swiveling around rapidly, the size is not a problem at all except for a bit of rotational inertia. Also, on the Discord forum, current 8KX owners with a huge FOV say they're not going back to it - the sharpness, brightness, color and fidelity of the Crystal's image more than compensates for losing a bit of FOV.
      Pimax is working on another lens set to ship to customers that should increase FOV by about 15% (so it should be close to 120 degrees, but YMMV will vary if you wear glasses or otherwise push your eyes further from the displays) - two sets of lenses are included in the price, but it's shipping with just the original 35PPD set until the new one is perfected and produced, then will ship that to prior purchasers.
      Mine arrives tomorrow; can't wait to see it fly DCS and MSFS 2000.

    • @gibilator
      @gibilator  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is large yes but it's all about the balance it seems. With a good balance and fit the weight all but disappears!
      And as @RJ-kr4bs mentioned the wider FOV lenses (if they can hit their marks) are going to end any conversations whether this headset is in a league of its own.

    • @gibilator
      @gibilator  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I can feel you there! The wmr software was always so clunky and I was in the group of amd adopters trying to work out why the thing wouldn't work! Replacement headset and 2 replacement cables ended up getting me going but I had a poor experience getting up and running. Great headset all the same. But this really isn't a fair comparison

    • @RJ-kr4bs
      @RJ-kr4bs ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gibilator the G2 is my first and so-far-only HMD until my Crystal arrives. I think it's still an excellent midrange value but is obviously lacking in the tech available 3 years after it first shipped. A good new or used one around US$400-500 would still make an excellent VR starter kit. But I won't miss WMR much......

  • @xjrthirteen
    @xjrthirteen ปีที่แล้ว +1

    My crystal's going back tomorrow. Extremely poor fit, just an oversized elastic band to hold all the weight, lenses clash with spectacles (if you're unfortunate enough to have to wear them).
    Also there is terrible distortion and warping if the headset isnt sat exactly right on your head, which is impossible (see above point).
    All this is made worse if you use a motion rig, it just jumps and wobbles everywhere.
    Then there's the light leeks from the sides of the face gasket that doesnt sit against the sides of my face, I have a 57" head, medium in a motorcycle helmet fit, so not unusually small.
    I wont even go into the shockingly poor build quality for the price, the creaky plastics say it all.
    I'm sticking with my trusty Reverb G2 for now.

    • @christycho9871
      @christycho9871 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's disappointing to hear. How much "motion" does your motion rig have? I have the DOF Reality P3 and been using a Reverb G2 V2 and it never bounces around to the point where it takes me out of the sweet spot. Just have to ask because if you have a ton of motion instead of just a little, it would be a problem with any headset, no?

    • @xjrthirteen
      @xjrthirteen ปีที่แล้ว

      @@christycho9871 I have a DOF H3 and use it with my Reverb G2 along with motion compensation. The amount of motion I have depends on the game that I use, less in MSFS, more in iRacing. No matter how much motion I use the G2 is never affected, my visuals always remain clear. This is due to the excellent fit and weight distribution of the G2.
      The Crystal is a different story; no matter how low the movement of my H3 is set, the unit moves around excessively, causing the visuals to suffer with blurriness, distortion and CA. This is due to the poor fit of the facial interface and the inability of the inadequate top strap to deal with the weight of the front of the unit.
