  • Beach fishing for Coho in the Comox Valley on Vancouver Island.
    See him land a beauty while chatting to a local old timer (multi-tasking!) who shares his preferences for lures - also likes Buzz Bomb and Zzinger Lures - not prompted to say so.....
    Jack Coho rips line and bends the rod nicely. Catch and release.

    Awesome video. Just moved to the PNW trying to build up the courage & knowledge to get out & do some fishing from the beach!

    That's a Spinnow in the video. I caught my first salmon which was a Chinook near Horseshoe Bay on a boat using a Zzinger about 30 years ago.

    Great video one question how should I retrieve a spinnow or buzzbomb

    • @chainsawmilling
      @chainsawmilling 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Casting from shore, if using braided line with a leader apply short and quick 1 - 2 foot twitch jigs and retrieve in between. This motion should create slack in the line between jigs. This is a crucial technique that allows the lure to fall flutter and spin on the line which mimics crippled herring or bait fish. Retrieve between jigs to pick up the slack. With monofilament line apply a longer stroke twitch jig of 2 - 3 foot to compensate for the stretch in the line.

    Wow, you let a Coho go? Are you not allowed to keep them down in WA? Here in Alaska you'd have to hold someone at gunpoint to release a Coho.

    Dig your videos. Can’t wait for the next. I live down in the Puget Sound and want to branch out from fly fishing. What size lures are you casting for coho and pinks? Is that the MH rod, or heavy rod?

    • @andrew_forin
      @andrew_forin 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Boyd, I was using the Heavy Fast action 8 - 17lbd 7’6” 12762-01
      E6X 904S F. Max lure size I would cast on that was 1.5 oz. (rated for 3/4 oz). That rod would easily handle a 15 pound chinook, but was super fun for humpys and coho. Unfortunately that rod was cursed. It flew off the roof of my car, i warrantied it and shortly after it was stolen from my office. ;) I spent the last 10 years fly fishing but my love for Buzz Bombs and Zzingers brought me back to spin fishing

    Hey Bro, down in the states, stores do not stock this lure. Please explain just how you have it set up please? What I see is that you have it on spinner wire and just reeling in. My guess is that makes the lure spin no doubt , but does it tail wag too? Great stuff, please throw a bone. I want to be different than everyone else jigging and reeling in Rotators.

      Its a Chrome Zzinger with the Zzingle hook combo - its a Single hook bumper and single hook (3/0). Just thread the line through all the pieces. The single hook bumper aligns the hook

      2" or 2.5" are very popular, and if you really need to send it or get some depth then 3"Light or 3"x-heavy. The 2"= 0.5oz, 2.5" =1oz, 3"light = 1.1oz, 3"xheavy = 1.5oz

    Never take a wild fish out of the water and especially never drag one up the beach. Learn to respect the resource or stay home.

    You should either be better prepared. There is no reason that fish should have come onto that gravel beach . Equally just look at the mouth for a easy identification of chinook or coho . Just because you make a video doesn't mean you are doing things right .

    Where is your net.? All those wild coho you dragged up on shore most likely have died from the trauma of being pulled across the rocks. I think you better find the paragraph in the regs. how to safely handle wild salmon that have to be released. I can clearly you dont have a clue.
