    When I fish silvers I just do a fairly quick reel with no jerk. Never step into the water and always keep the rod low and keep the lure under the water until it hits the beach. I have fished puget sound salmon from the beach for 37 years and I can't even count how many silvers have hit the lure on the beach or have actually beached themselves following my buzz bomb. Favorite color has always been 2.5 or 3l white with green stripe. For kings cast as far as you can and count how long it takes to hit bottom and next cast 2 counts before bottom start jigging it back in. Best time of day for beach kings is always evening just before dark when they seem to hit the shoreline. Other times is low tide as most good king beaches will have deeper water at low tide than they do at high tide. 95% of all kings off the beach i have hooked has been in evening though. Pinks I have always had best luck doing the jigging technique but I never targeted them from the beach just caught them while king fishing. Nothing drives me more crazy at a beach than guys wading out 5ft in the water when 80% of the fish "not kings" hit in the first 30ft of water. These fish are chasing bait near the shoreline. I have never needed to wade into the water to catch a salmon that was not in a terminal Fishery like hoodsport as an example. Best advice for all salmon fishing is sharpen or replace every hook after each fish. If you can't sharpen then replace the hook and you will be amazed how a $.30 change will dramatically increase your catch rate. I recommend this boat fishing as well. Hooks are the least expensive thing us fisherman use and at the same time one of the most neglected

    It may seem like he is dodging the location question, but he is 100% right: With Pinks you absolutely can catch fish at almost any beach. I've only fished three beaches in the year I have been fishing, but what helped me find fish was looking for beaches where the tide rips come super close to shore.

    Hi Rick how are you good to see your fishing the buzz bomb my favorite Shore lure. I cast about 45 feet off point on Vancouver Island and pretty well catch a big Spring anytime get out there. I use a 4-in pink pearl and sharpen my hook. I let it fall down close to the bottom and reel it in like a crazy bass fisherman. The fish bite on the fall so you might as well just reel it in as fast as you can. Gently cast out let it fall repeat. Took me a while to figure it out I was casting out too far. Making too much noise and scaring the big ones away.

    It's better to use braid. I use 50,30 or 20lb powerpro. Depends on what setup I'm using. I always tie strait to the hook and tie a pice of rubber band about a 1/4" above the buzzbomb so it doesn't fall too far from the hook. I've been fishing these from the docks, shore and boats for over 35 years. I've seen every conceivable way people have rigged these. Keep is simple. Never use a leader it's another connection that can fail.

    • @brendanwoerner5458

      @jimhaayy5363 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree with the above except I always and only use 20 pound power pro. As long as you retie every 30 or 45 minutes I have not had a failure. I do like using stainless ball bearing swivels and crimping a big river hook to the other end to help with line twists. When I am fishing silvers the faster retrieve does all sorts of crazy stuff to the line. I also love trolling buzz bombs in shallow water behind the boat. Does great for silvers

    I use braided line and also a swivel above the buzz bomb. After twitching for a while I'll cast and the line will tangle big time... it makes twitching hard to do because I know sooner or later I'll end up with a tangle. Any ideas as to what I could be doing wrong?
    I think its floating braid btw, not powerpro.

    • @HolyMolyOutdoors
      @HolyMolyOutdoors  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question. In the saltwater one thing to have to keep in mind is seaweed and gunk causing the swivel to bind up and not work properly. Braid doesn’t like twisting as much and could be the cause. Could also be the line being used. one thing to look for is when being reeled in is the line looping on the reel and not winding properly?

    • @jimhaayy5363
      @jimhaayy5363 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The best way to keep wind knots from happening is when casting make sure to use a finger to slow down line just before lure hits the water. This will remove a lot of excess line. Manually flip bail and at the same time swing the rod wide left or right to remove evening more of the bow in line and add tension to the line. Then start doing your normal thing. Every few casts just cast out and do a standard reel in to shore and hold the buzz bomb in the air and let it spin for a couple of seconds. A good idea is to use stainless steel ball bearing swivels where you attach your open eye hook which makes the biggest difference on line twisting. They aren't cheap like $1.50 or 2 per swivel but worth the money when it helps with wind knots. This is for windy days. I do this on non windy days as well but if it is windy you need to up the size of buzz bomb. I use 20 pound power pro with no leader. I like big river hooks with the open eye to crimp onto swivel. Best place to buy stainless ball bearing swivels in Seattle is seattle marine and fishing since they cater more to the commercial fishing fleet. Best place for hootchies and spoons crazy selection. Also good supply of buzz bombs and jigs.
