    Here's the video breaking down how the reactor works: • I turn Plastics into F...
    I believe with the world wide crisis we are facing now, we require a world wide solution. And this is why I believe we need decentralized devices such as this Reactor. Think about it, even if there is just 1 reactor in every community, that will put a huge dent in plastic waste and pollution.
    Due to this, I do not wish to make a singular specialized Reactor, once I master and complete this one, I want to make all different types, of all different scales and sizes.

    Be aware that if you pyrolyse polyvinylchloride (PVC) without a nitrogen atmosphere you can form dioxine in the process. This is also known as agent orange. Impressive installation that you build yourself. You don't want to poison the neighborhood take proper care.

      The number of kids who think this guy is changing the world is making me lose faith. I guess most of his fans are kids or older people who have no idea what he's really doing.
      I think they imagine, "Oh my God, he's making oil out of plastic or something; the government must be sending hitmen after him daily." But the truth is, even if he found a new way to make oil without wasting a lot of energy, the government would be more interested in how he did it before doing anything drastic to him.
      even if he had invented something that truly threatened the government, he would have been dealt with a long time ago.

      I'm getting more of a . I'm learning this with you kind of vibe. He is very smart and passionate about what he is doing. His process is down and dirty. And not very efficient. But that will get better with time. It has to. There is no point to any of this. If you don't get move energy out then put in. I'm going to keep an eye on this guy. Fyi this tech has been around for a while . It's about the efficiency of the process. And making it a continuous process makes it promising. I wish him the best.

    • @foulcakes
      @foulcakes 16 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@WithoutFear45Yep, the claims of “changing the world” are silly. It clearly takes some skill to set all of this up, but pyrolysis of plastics has been researched and debated for decades, this isn’t new. He has basically set up a big science experiment, trying to do what companies and research institutions have done many times over, except he’s obviously doing it with much lower efficiency, fewer personal safety measures, and zero regard for the toxic pollutants released in the process.
      Ever hear of the nuclear boy scout? A Boy Scout was fascinated by nuclear engineering, but he decided to carry out dangerous experiments with radioactive material in a shed in his mom’s backyard. The EPA had to dismantle the thing and designated it a superfund site. Curiosity about science and engineering is great, but it needs to be properly channeled - it’s no surprise that he recently wound up in the hospital with serious burns, and I worry that continuing this experiment will end with greater injuries to him or even harm to his surrounding community.
      He’s clearly bright, but portraying this as a world-changing invention is nothing short of misleading, especially considering the number of people donating real money to this project.

    Use a refrigeration recovery tank. They're very cheap, very well sealed, common, and hot swappable. Also you could very easily adapt a refrigeration compressor to pull an amazing vacuum and compress the gas against a refrigerant solenoid to make it all remotely controlled and 240 so less current. Recovery machines are very expensive. Also depending on the required condensing temperature you may find a large evaporator coil from an RTU (roof top unit) with a fan and shroud could do very well and again reduce power consumption. If not enough then I would just use a small walk in freezer refrigeration system, again cheap and effective while being very power efficient. I'd love to help on this project

    I am no engineer, but, if everything is condensating within your black tube. It may make a lot of sense to have sections where you have several places where the condensate can go throughout the tube rather than your single spot. You can still have your single collection, but I feel like a lot of it would be caught on the top of the black tube and drip down into the charcoal.

    Use two ss ice traps on the gas recovery side. By using two traps your able to collect your gas as a liquid. And the its much easier to move into a cylinder. Why use two different traps? For the continuous run you have set up. You would have a set of isolation values for each trap and a n2 bleed back. And it always helps to keep your recovery cylinder cold as possible. Even a simple wooden box . Packed with dry ice would help your process. Very cool stuff your playing with.

      Scaling the entire thing up with more powerful electrical sources will help tremendously. He only has 220v with a 200 amp service at his house though.\
      This is another reason I hope he can move this to a proper industrial area and have 3 phase 1000+ amp service available. I also think the microwave magnetrons can be optimized and scaled up to work more efficiently. I believe he is still using consumer grade magnetrons from old microwaves which are not that great efficiency wise while running this long.

      Is what he's doing interesting? Yeah, I personally think so. Is it going to change the world? Not until electricity is free. He knows full well there's a minimum amount of energy required to rip those molecules apart, and he knows that isn't close to economically viable. I just wish he'd be honest about that.

      That’s not how any of this works. Plastic pyrolysis has existed for decades, this isn’t a new process. The problem is that the process itself produces significant emissions, and the energy required is quite high.
      Researchers have presented options for scaling this tech on many occasions, but it’s not used very often for the reasons listed. There are a million and one ways to reuse plastic waste, that’s never been the issue, it’s always just been a question of thermodynamics and whether or not the process is worth it in terms of energy and additional emissions.

      At 13:16 he said that it consumed 30kwh of energy. 2liters of that oil probably amount to about 17kwh of energy. But it also produced lots of gas and carbon and I am sure that it can be made much more efficient, looks promising.

    ten+ years back, a Grant put out by the government allowed a few labs to open up In the United States to revisited this concept to see If modern methods could extract the petroleum from plastic. We knew we could Extracted petroleum it was simply a matter of cost Versus energy output.
    Each lab ran large scale experiments and attempt to extract the petroleum Using different methods.
    While at the same time, running a research group to see how much it would cost to do it and at what scale It would take to make the process pay for itself.
    The conclusion of the research was that there were two Methods that were viable if the processing plants were made on a massive scale.
    Princeton, this guy set up, Is quite small scale and takes more energy and money Extract the petroleum then you would get from selling the fuel.

      @twistedfubar9522 23 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Ultimately, the research pointed to the federal government having to be the one to Fit the bill and regulate for multiple reasons.
      For one, somebody would have to eat the initial cost under the best circumstances, if regulations don’t change and no major accidents occurred on the facility's site And mechanical wares consistent across the entire timeframe it would take 43 years to break even.
      If in the hands of private employers, regulation would almost certainly change overtime resulting in high cost
      If any accident happened on the facility at any point in time, a private owner would certainly go under considering the initial cost would have put them in the red for 43 years.
      After considering the current political landscape, No career politician would be willing to put their name on an anchor that they know will be submerged for 43 years. Because by the end of the 43 years, even if they had solved the worlds plastic problem, the Anchors that emerges from the dearth’s will be covered in mud, Rust and Mired in a negative perception.

    So, ultimately it is just heating the plastic up with microwaves? There's no other chemicals being added, no other process?

    • @mikkel066h
      @mikkel066h 23 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Heating plastic up without the presence of oxygen, makes the plastic breakdown into its core components. Which is crude oil and a bunch of other chemical additives.
      So no this is not revolutionary or a better way to make fuel. Since you are already taking a product which requires a lot of energy to produce, and then using a lot more energy to breakdown said product again. This is the main reason why no large companies have done it, since it is cheaper and more energy efficient to just buy a barrel of crude oil to refine.

  • @woe794

    This is not a new method for creating gasoline. It just heats up the plastic without the presence of oxygen until it reverts back into crude oil. The crude oil is then processed into fuel. The problem with this system is that you have to use more energy to convert the plastic into crude than is present in the end product.

      People who don’t know this, think he is the greatest inventor of all time.
      Even though this technology has been here for over 70 years. It was just not an economically viable way of producing fuel. Since plastic is a product of crude, which you then decided to turn back into crude to make fuel.

    Okay lets do the math, you used 30kwh to produce 2l of fuel, lets do the math:
    an electric car uses on average 0.2 kwh per kilometer driven.
    1l gets you 30km in a modern car fuel efficient car in the best case scenario.
    So if you used that electricity, to recharge an electric vehicle, you could have driven 150km and with the fuel you made you can only drive 60km, and that is being generous since its basically crude oil and will need further refinement to be used as fuel.
    I hope you are okay, and I dont want to discourage you from experimenting with anything, but take care and remember to think twice before doing anything at this scale again, there is so many things in this project that can kill you or give you cancer or cook you alive, quite literally.
