  • I was tired of playing my records on low volume in the evening due to not have any connections for headphones. So I decided to get a budget pre-amp with a headphone socket. Then I thought I'd go one step further and attach a Bluetooth transmitter to the pre amp so I could listen to my Bluetooth headphones! See how i got on?
    UPDATE I've removed the affiliate link to this preamp. When making my follow up video • *WHAT A SCAM!* Budget ... , I discovered that the op amp advertised in the pictures was not the op amp in the unit. Instead, I discovered a much cheaper op amp! I would avoid buying this unit.

    Thanks for the video, answered some of my questions. Did you try connecting your bluetooth transmitter directly to the rca output on the turntable and using the turntable's internal preamp? I wondered if the volume would be any better than a direct connection.
    Cheers

      The preamp would probably be too quiet.

    Hi, I really want to get into vinyl but I have a bit of a problem. The problem is that my headphones lack a bit of bass and need a bass boost that's just the right amount. So I wonder, is there by any chance that you may know if there is a way to connect my zen dac with the turntable for use of the Xbass, and then connect to my dedicated amplifier? I can use a USB c to RCA cable adapter, do you think that will work? (By using a dongle.) I read that by connecting USB device using RCA can harm the source because it gives power or charges, but since I use the ipower5 this shouldn't be an issue atleast. Another thing though is that the zen have digital line and not analog so even though I can connect it, it may not work because of that. But since it's a dac shouldn't it convert itself back to analog anyway? (And work just fine.)
    To buy another pair of good headphones is out of my budget, so what I have for my audio source is a pair of dt880 600 ohms and my stand alone amp and the zen dac I use for the missing bass.

      Unfortunately the Zen has no analog input, only the USB digital. A USB-C to RCA cable is also a DAC with digital in analog out only, not the other way around. You need to connect the turntable to an analog headphone amp, and quite a powerful one to drive your 600 Ohm headphones, and if the turntable doesn't have a built in preamp, you need one of those too (between the turntable and the headphone amp).

      @@Balint.T.Siklosi That's too bad! I do have an analog headphone amp already, it's just that I won't get enough bass without a bass boost.
      The dt880 600 ohms is the best headphones on the market in my opinion, with a +10db - 2-3db bass boost and the right amp. I could use a reciever with tone controls but then the treble won't be tamed correctly. Is there any preamps with bass boost switch though? Too bad the zen phono doesn't have the bass switch as the zen dac do.

    Will I need a pre amp and a Bluetooth transmitter to connect to a Bluetooth speaker (echo dot)? If my record player is only auxiliary? New to vinyl, thanks!

    • @UTILITARIANTVUK
      @UTILITARIANTVUK  ปีที่แล้ว

      You will need to phono preamp unless the turntable you have has one already built in. You can connect to the echo dot with a cable (RCA to 3.5mm male)

    Hi!
    I wonder if it's possible to connect headphones with inbuilt amp and dac (like the Px7) directly into a preamp (which is connected to my turntable)? I thought this would work but it does not :D
    Many thanks

      Most suitcase record players have a headphone jack. If it has a headphone jack, you won't need a pre-amp. Do you already have one or are you thinking of getting one?
