I knew that reavers and corsairs are a great combo, but this is more than I expected. That third (I think) Brood War mission tells you something...

Yeah reavers are super strong vs zerg. Not a smart play vs terran due to siege tanks...but vs zerg? The damage is so insanely high and zerg is always sending big clumps of units. Reavers are not as flimsy as high templar, so the only weakness is inability to hit air. The strat in this game solved that by having enough corsairs to clear the scourge meaning zerg could not kill the shuttles without getting close enough with the hydras, and d-web completely screwed that up. But I think this game shows that when zerg players don't get enough muta/scourge it opens up this style of play for protoss.

Killing ratio is almost 5:1, which is probably one of the highest killing rations in PvZ.

if D-Web required less energy, like 75 instead of 125, this build would be much more frequent.
It originally lasted a much longer time...original design was based around disabling static air defense but it became obvious it was super strong in general, thus a massive nerf to it's duration. I've even seen protoss players using mass carrier with a few corsair D-webs to screw up goliaths. The old version of D-web would absolutely crush today and make protoss look OP.

It is a very maverick concept of the game strategy. I had always wondered why StarCraft players choose the ground units as they can meet many obstacles, walking over a map, while the air units can't. Then, I understood that the ground units have better attack and defence features compared to the air units. The player managed to reconcile the best features of each unit type in a very simple way. Amazing!

As a protoss main, and reavers are my (second) favorite units, this was by far my favorite cast so far.

Probably needed to go more scourge and mutas to survive and then get devourers to finally counter the corsairs. Very rare strategy from protoss though. Very cool.
Dweb is totally unbalanced if the protoss player knows how to use it.
With proper positioning and decent micro, 19:40 for example, you can make an impenetrable web of defenses for your reaver drops.
There is no way for the enemy player to kill the reavers if your units cannot attack.
So naturally, 99% of protoss players ignore that ability entirely.
This was mostly an error by the zerg player not getting enough scourge/muta to compete with the corsairs. D-web doesn't work on air units. This is also a situation where zerglings can be thrown at the reavers to drain their scarabs, most pros don't get the scarab capacity upgrade. D-web used to have a much longer duration, the old version would be downright broken..you can see how strong even the nerfed version of it can be!

Actually, this is very interesting game to watch. Serious games people can watch on other channels also, but games like this - it's rare. Should have something like "UNUSUAL" tag or other describing not... normal game. I would watch all of them. I'm very rare adding "Like" and this video got it.

I feel drops would work better if he had some zealots to tank hydra shots.
Zealots cost minerals...minerals a reaver masser needs to spend on scarabs and shuttles. The zerg needed lings to throw at those reavers...make them waste scarabs and run out before the hydras slide in.
Having some zealots and 1-2 reavers less would probably be more effective. Reavers are bad at covering other reavers.
I never understood why pro players don't use D-web every game.
They generally always have Corsair.

@@ObeliskM not useless if the protoss is doing a carrier transition. D-web can really screw up the goliaths, pathing to get shots can become a nightmare for terran. But overall it seems better to just go zealot/goon/HT with 6-8 carriers from the pro games I have watched. I have seen rare cases when protoss players beat terran with carrier/corsair though.
Well it takes a fleet beacon which isn't cheap and then the upgrade. Also D-web, for how long it last, takes a lot of energy. D-web lasted MUCH longer in earlier versions of SC and it was really good... It was nerfed to what you see now. Corsairs also aren't "pure casters" because they have an attack... Which makes it annoying to macro because your "casters" will run off and pursue air units. If you place them in hold position they then won't retreat if attacked by ground units. All of these things makes them a hassle to use.
And, come on! I use more Facebook than Instagram, actually I am delighted because there are many people like me. Facebook won't fit. 🤔

This fails hard against a hydra bust. If the zerg sniffs out corsair reaver, they know that the protoss wont have zealot with legs and high templars and will just bust and win the game. Pro’s understand that you are committing an all in with this strat and if significant damage is not done, they will fall off economically and lose the game
There is no guarantee that this will get scouted.
But this game was an attempted sneaky lurker bust by the zerg, not an all in hydra play. Even in the case of a hydra bust though...the reavers were out soon enough. You don't need HTs to beat hydras when you have reavers behind a wall with cannons. No, the main danger to a build like this is mass muta/scourge.
