I rode Amtrak from Denver to Reno. The conductors were very clear, "You have time to step out for a smoke, but don't wander any further than the platform. We will not wait for you." I don't think we lost any passengers on that trip, but they were not kidding. They had a schedule to keep, and they did.
For most Part they will leave ontime or late. But, I have been on Amtrak so many times in past. Where They actually Left Early. Most were like 1 or 2 min early. But I been on some where we get in On time to a station and suppose to have like a 15 min stop Only to leave 5 mins at stop instead of a 15 min stop like suppose to. and Pretty much be like well over 5 to 10 mins early at every single stop after .
I’ve travelled trains all over Australia and Europe, the departure time is the time the wheels start turning, not the time you get there. I’m glad there through him off.
As one conductor said to us, "Don't forget: The train doesn't leave you, you left the train. Raven's ate the guy's dropped breakfast over the next hour or so. They should have shown some of those.
I was on the Southwest Chief which makes a scheduled stop of 18 minutes at Albuquerque. After we departed, the conductor came on the loudspeaker and announced that we had left a passenger behind - just a reminder to stay near the platform! And if for some reason someone is wanting some food that isn't available on the train, they can call ahead to a restaurant with delivery service - depending on the station, they can deliver the food to the platform or close by.
Instead of a fool and his money are soon parted, it should be a fool and his FOOD are soon parted! That was absolutely hysterical. The rest of the video was just great! Thank you so much for posting!!

I find it amazing that so many people nowadays do not think the rules apply to them. They will inconvenience the entire world by doing whatever it is they want to at any time they feel like it and are always surprised to find out there are consequences.

This happened to me when travelling in India in the seventies; but at that time poorer people rode on top or even clung on much like this guy. Guys in an open baggage car saw me chasing the slow moving train and motioned for me to jump on the exposed step, which I did. I stayed with them until the next stop and then found my companions and baggage. I had no money or ID when I left the third class car! Lucky Me; nice people in India.
My conductor made it crystal clear that if you were late getting back they MIGHT stop depending on if they are on time if they are late you are out of luck
Lots of goodies! I feel the more remote viewing cameras give more detailed viewings...plus more flora and fauna potentially. The Kansas engines look regal for sure! It looks like a wild wild wild west train car in the mix! 12 BNSF special delivery engines. Norfolk Western nice blue engine... A Norfolk Southern saying hello! Never seen Bee line engine. A unknown large green forest engine orange too...the CSX vet train! The maintenance train with its own sci-fi feel is super neat! Shipping yard crane doing it work with over the road trucks. A transformer rail truck! Sunny D to the rescue on the Mississippi! One of the best is that little black Switcher train so fun! Good capture of the sky! Thanks
If the train is stopped in the station, and she has a valid ticket, I don't think the conductor had a choice in that situation - not that he was pleased about it.
So, the train passenger was late retunring with the food and dumped it. He then hitched a ride on the side of the car. Eventually, the train stopped and apparently he and his buddy were kicked off the train and then the police arrive.

I saw the auto train stop live. On the Ashland board we all felt badly that someone was sick, but at the same time we were in awe of our up close look at Auto Train. ❤️❤️❤️🤩
If I was that guy at 4:46 and came back to see the train leaving, I would’ve just accepted defeat and waited for the next eastbound rather than jumping on the side and clinging to the grab irons for dear life while losing the food I missed my ride for in the process. Although it’s a shame for him, I can see why they gave him the boot for that little stunt he pulled. Completely unsafe and on top of that interferes with the schedule.

I saw SF 642 going through Logansport Indiana Tuesday heading East to Fort Wayne then caught it going back West Wednesday and managed to get a quick 35 second video of it.

When you have only two passenger trains a day that come through it isn't worth the expense for a station to have a cafe or food available. Besides, even though it's a fresh air/smoke stop, it's still not long enough for a place inside to serve several passengers in time before departure.
Next time order take out and delivery well before you arrive at the station. I have seen a lot of people do that here. The pizza delivery will sitting at the train station when the train pulls in.

I saw a passenger jump on the side of a train once. I had just gotten off the Silver Meteor in Jacksonville, FL. I was hanging out waiting for it to leave. As it started to move a college age couple stopped kissing, and the girl started to run for the train. I told her to get the attention of the conductor as she ran towards the train. I head the conductor on my scanner calling the head end to stop. He then started to open the trap to let her in.. I guess she didn't know what he was doing, as she jumped on the stirrup on the end of the car.... All I could do was shout "Hey!!", and point. The train stopped, and she got on... The boyfriend was laughing the whole time.
Passengers in coach cars cannot eat in the dining car. Present rule in place. The can buy drinks and packaged food in the observation car bottom level, but not with cash - only debit/credit.

Now that AmTrak has done away with onboard meals to save money (by order of the guberment) how's that working out for 'ya? I see a niche market for parking Roach Coaches at AmTrak platforms.
I saw a passenger jump on the side of a train once.
I had just gotten off the Silver Meteor in Jacksonville, FL. I was hanging out waiting for it to leave. As it started to move a college age couple stopped kissing, and the girl started to run for the train. I told her to get the attention of the conductor as she ran towards the train.
I head the conductor on my scanner calling the head end to stop. He then started to open the trap to let her in.. I guess she didn't know what he was doing, as she jumped on the stirrup on the end of the car.... All I could do was shout "Hey!!", and point. The train stopped, and she got on... The boyfriend was laughing the whole time.
Amazing that a lady rocked up also and Conductor put the steps out for her to get in the train?
Also looks like he had all of his parafanalia on the train so needed to be back on that particular train 🚆

Passengers in coach cars cannot eat in the dining car. Present rule in place. The can buy drinks and packaged food in the observation car bottom level, but not with cash - only debit/credit.
With the food prices on Amtrak. Can save you a lot of money 💰 🤑 💸 😏.

What that guy should have done called his buddy on his cellphone, let him know what happened then caught a Flagstaff cab to Winslow and rejoined the train. I'm sure he'd beat the train there too.
