    I live in the camp fire size splits with my firewood sales too! Yeah, it takes longer to cut. Yeah, you have to handle it more. And yeah you can charge more for it. As far as a splitter goes that is why I upgraded to the Split-fire 1165V at Paul Bunyan. Speed, comfort, quality, easy to move, easy to operate, and affordable for everything you get. Just keep being you and do your thing.

      That is definitely a great splitter for the high dollar wood production!

    Small,uniform,dry,clean, and small quantities is where it’s at in firewood!!! More money and more return customers! Sell less for more. If I split all my firewood in big pieces people would dry by my stand and laugh. The people who want it big for heating want to save a buck on energy costs and they will want it so cheap it’s not worth your time. Focusing on recreational burners is where the reward is for me! Great topic Heath👍🏻👍🏻🇺🇸

    Agree with everything you've said. My prices are much higher than anyone around. I sell out earlier and earlier every year. The one thing I hear constantly is why does your wood burn better than anyone else's. It's because they're smaller splits so you get a better flame and also because it's seasoned.

    I was just talking the other night with Jerimiah at outdoors in the 608. we both agreed we don't want to be the lowest price firewood. small split ready to burn firewood is the key market we want as well. right now around us its pretty easy to find 70 or 80 dollar face cords and I just sold 1 for 200. I had to run it through the kiln but I have a product that not everyone can produce now.

    As you said, Heath, there are as many ways to do firewood as there are people making it. Find the right way for yourself and stick with it. Be open to improving as well. For my wife and I our splits are a mix of smalls and larger chunks. Smalls get used during the day when we can give the fire attention and larger chunks for the overnight burns. Thanks for sharing your experience.

    When you sell wood customer satisfaction is your goal, give them what they want.

  • @pyroman6000
    @pyroman6000 25 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

    I don't sell. I buy, and cut for myself.
    Small splits are what I burn. Usually, I have to resplit the wood I buy, because it's all in big mahonga chunks... Not a big deal, because I LIKE swinging an axe and splitting, but not everyone does. Just means I get to split it into the size I want. This is dry- seasoned 2 years min- clean, not punky or rotten, and bug/fungi free. AND it's all good species. Most is under a roof, too. Been burned too many times buying "seasoned" wood that was a standing tree just weeks ago... 35+% moisture isn't seasoned!! So when I found this guy, I was delighted to finally get dry, ready to burn NOW wood- and have kept going back. Lol- I'm one of those customers you were talking about- Hey, why does your wood burn so much better than everyone else's??
    He's often surprised when I tell him I resplit most of it- but I burn in a kettle grill. I don't want to overload it, or wait hours to cook my supper, lol. Or enjoy a nice campfire. So, shorties, cutoffs, and cookies are welcome, too- they split up into perfect grill pieces.
    The BBQ wood he sells is twice the price, but I'm happy to pay- nobody else sells bulk Apple or Sugar Maple around here. He told me he even has customers who ASK him for Aspen for camp wood, just because they love the smell of it, so he keeps a supply on hand.
    Give people what they want, and they keep coming back.
    As for what I cut myself, it's primarily tree service style wood. Whatever gets cut in the neighborhood, the bigger wood gets dumped out back. Mostly Maple (Silver and Norway), and Honey Locust. Sometimes Ash (I'm ALL over that), pine, spruce, Crab Apple, or box elder, too.
    Yard monster soft maple can be a bear to split, but it's excellent campfire wood, free, and smells amazing. No splitter, just axes- so I have to be smarter than the wood! lol. (and know when to break out the saw to make chunks out of it)

    • @hardworkingmanoutdoors
      @hardworkingmanoutdoors  24 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Absolutely, good high quality wood can be tough to come by sometimes. That’s why people keep coming back. I like silver maple for campfire wood!

    Around here firewood is going for $800-1,000 for an air dried cord in bulk. Corner store… just shy of $1,400 a cord packed in 1 cu.ft. bundles. Me… I’ve had so many dead ash and storm damaged maple, walnut, sycamore, hickory, etc. to get rid of that my friends have been well stocked for free for years! I’m looking at chippers now… a lot branch wood to get rid off and drought conditions and location preclude burning it.

    I sell a little bit of firewood as a hobby that sends some extra income my way. Maybe 10 full cord per year. I only sell seasoned "toothpicks". I get a good price. And I have never had one stick left over at the end of the "selling" season. It works for me. Exercise, enjoyment and extra income instead of stupid TV. A no-brainer for me.

  • @carnesdiy

    I don't sell any of my wood, maybe one day I will. With that being said I split my wood small, I use to be the one that would split larger wood because in my mind it was better to use for heating. What i found was that yes it did hold the fire longer, but it took a lot longer to dry and season. I also learned that it was easier for my wife to handle the small splits, she helps me with stacking and feeding the fire along with my kids. So that's what I do now smaller splits = faster drying and seasoning = more help and a happier wife, which we all know makes things better.

Texas winters are generally so mild, there's simply no need for home heating firewood. Outdoor entertaining, backyard burn pits probably accounts for most sales. But, we experience this annually in late summer/early fall. Anywhere from abnormally dry to moderate to severe drought. So well over half of the 254 counties in Texas are under mandatory outdoor burn bans. Hard to sell firewood like that. Really enjoy your videos. Keep em coming.
