ANiMA: A Mythic Epic Exploring A Borderless Future

ANiMA is an unique exploration of ancestry, tradition, nature, and technology. The show adapts ancient mythologies into contemporary storytelling. Animations are projected onto a custom screen while multi-instrumentalist Louis Chinn plays original, folk infused electronic music. Interactive visuals map onto performers’ bodies, responding directly to their movements, while missTANGQ, shadow dancers, and puppeteers perform.
Louis Chinn wrote and performed the original music. The visual art projections were created in collaboration with missTANGQ, who was also a dancer and costume designer for the show. Using the Kinect and Processing, Tiffany Ta tracked the performers movements to correlate with the visuals being projected. ANiMA has toured in festivals, theaters and performance centers in various locations around the world including San Francisco, Mexico and Beijing, with annual summer shows in Seattle public parks.
