Lei played very well today, much patience and play small ball more, that’s such good strategy and Lei did it well, congratulations lei and consistent playing to win the big title of China Open!
I think there needs to be more transparency regarding service delay. Viktor took about 3.5 seconds to serve after he got ready. The only advice I’ve ever heard is ~5 seconds as a guide, but it’s umpire discretion. This is absurd. Just give one of the line judges a timer. I feel like this umpire just has a personal issue with the direction changing/faking before the serve. Again, transparency would be great. You can’t just let umpires have full authority over this mountainous grey area.
When the opponent is in ready position and you move around for 3.5 seconds it's WAYY too long. Once Axelsen is in position he will not wait long. He will come out of ready position and complain the opponent is not serving fast enough.
@J.J.J.J.J.J.J you completely missed the point. I don't agree or disagree on whether it was too long, but rather the fact that it's entirely up to the umpire and there's no transparency in the process that leads to the decision.
Maybe Axelson was tired due to arriving in Changzhou late, however, last week in HK, Axelson played 2-0*5 while Lei played 2-1*4, i guess the 4 games that Lei played more than Axelson were sufficient to compensate the age gap. Hope LEI also play well in the following games.
Even in the HK open, Axelsen didn't get much challenge technically and in terms of stamina, he couldn't perform well in B2B matches. His Super 1000 record, which he entered every Super 1000 final he attended since 2018, has become history. From now on, He has to compromise his body condition and only pick the important match to attend.
He was in a mental crisis since point 3 of the first game. He was so annoyed that he could not stay composed and he started to try to smash his way out of it, but was not relaxed so smashes were weaker than average.
@@yibinou4254 I don’t think so. It was because axelson was too tired. Maybe he could not have the same energy to do the job this week 🥲 If Lei can get another 2 rounds I believe he is as good as momota.
Congrats to Lei but I want to comment a little more here. One of the weakness that vkt axlsen himself knows is his temper, and in the early stage his “wiggle serve” got a fault definitely made him lost the temper. He started off playing the net and all the shots way too aggressively which is not at his best.
A NEW STAR/LEGEND is BORN! Intuitively I sense Lei Lan Xi will be the next Lin Dan. Both he and Lin Dan are left-handed (that is a great sign), and Xi plays very intelligently well against the much experienced and much taller Axelsen who is a very tall person which enable him to smash much more easily than much shorter players and also, he needs many less steps to move around (such as side to side & back to front, etc.) because he has such long legs. Congratulations to Xi and hopefully you continue your dedication to train harder and smarter to become a great legend like Lin Dan one day!
I wouldn’t go as far to compare Lei directly to Lin Dan. LD in his later prime is a more control/rally style player with ample deception built into his game. Lei’s style focuses on winning net plays before switching to his attacks, which is kinda similar to SYQ
@@shawnz3307 Yes, just another proof on how even and unpredictable mens singles is. Within top 30 all can happen now. Even more when Axelsen is getting older.

His defense in this match was unbelievably good
That service delay call was epic.
