Galicia-class - Landing Platform Dock Ships of the Spanish Navy

The Spanish Navy currently owns two Galicia-class landing platform docks, the Galicia L-51 and the Castilla L-52. The class was built by Navantia for amphibious warfare as well as can be deployed as a logistical support role in both military and civilian operations. Galicia was commissioned in 1998 and Castilla in 2000. They are the result of a joint project between Spain and the Netherlands to develop a common class of LPD that would fulfill the needs of both countries to replace older ships.

Very versatile as looks both like a landing dock and assault vessel. For a smaller country this would fit in nicely.

I love this type of vessel they are very versatile, from ASW using helicopters to landing troops and everything in between. Mostly used for disaster relief though they are great emergency hospital and base for rebuilding and recovery. Their Dutch counterpart HMS Rotterdam was even used for the current crisis to provide additional capabilities to the overseas territory.

if they have the same armament then they're a bit light there if they ever get sent into a warzone they could use a pair of RIM launchers and say 4 maybe 6 pintles for heavy machine guns!

@@keithmoore5306 the design allows the weapons to be installed but the local government decides if they want to arm them or just use escorts. We adapt the Rotterdam to each mission it is sent on, they are exactly the same vessels just minor alterations in weapons and electronics.
