Just a fair warning.. we don’t like “missionaries” in Russia We are already Christian.. and we practice Orthodoxy (so original form) So why do these catholics and protestants come here to try and convert us?? As a former expat Canadian gone to France for 35 years, came back in 2015, how I would like to move to Mother Russia. But turning 70 in a few days, one daughter in Nova Scotia and the other two in Berlin, all I can do is admire your decision. You are in my prayers. Language learning will come in time, and before long your kids will be your interpreters. Over time, i believe you will realize how wise a decision this one will turn out to be.

@@countrysideacreshomestead2008Questioning yourself is normal in your situation. Try to find other foreign families that have moved to Russia. Communicating with them, could make you feel that you are not alone. And other families are going through the same adaptation period. It’s easier to go through a big life changing stage with people that got through the same thing. Ask your lawyer to connect you with other families that moved to Russia. Search online, or ask others to point you to a community of people that also moved to Russia. I know that many Germans communicating with each other after moving to Russia. I am sure there are also English speaking communities out there.
If you are mobile and active, you would, at 70 find that Russia is very easy to live well in, with zero stress and if in a city, more access to services and culture than anywhere else in the world. In 6 months I will be 75 and moved from California after giving everything away....business, houses, cars, an airplane and flew to St Petersburg in Jan 2000 with only 2 suitcases and $6000, not knowing more than 10 words of Russia. Every day I feel very lucky I did it and did it without assets and complications. You will find others will be genuinely interested in your story and you as a person regardless of your social or economic status, and friends will be found daily. If you are interested in culture, such as art, museums, opera, jazz, history, drama, and socializing you will be in the prefect society. Being able to walk the streets and 600 parks in this city at 3am be perfectly safe takes some getting used to, but it is true. Everyone you meet on the street or in a ballet theater, will be genuinely warm and personable no matter your views, religion, politics ethnicity, origins, wealth, gender (there are only 2 genders in Russia, your biological sex and no one cares what gender you are attracted to as long as you are a good person, appearance or age. They only judge you on your character. Friends are often very different ages, but have some common interest. Most of my long term friends were young when we met because we had some common interest. I was in the music business and other fields, at the same time so young people seem to gravitate to me, and most of my frequent meet ups with friends are 20-35 years old because we attend the same events, and have many mutual friends There are 235 drama theaters in walking distance(no one needs a car with the great cheap and convenient public transport option), just under 300 world class museums, all among the best in the world and more than all North American combines times 5, 54 classical music grand halls, 16 ballet theaters, and 6 of the best opera houses in the world and all affordable, many jazz clubs, rock clubs, and 550 English style pubs, many with live music or a great place to meet friends or watch sports. You would be too busy out socializing to bother getting a tv,, there is just too many options to sit passively in front of a TV. Heath care is great, even doctor house calls are free. The food is pure, no chemicals or GMO. Someone on Social Security will live a secure high quality of life impossible to duplicate regardless of wealth in the US or Canada.
If your pension is at least a thousand dollars, then this will be quite enough for a comfortable stay in Moscow, the most expensive city in Russia, because renting a good studio apartment in Moscow costs $ 500 per month, and the rest of the expenses are not so significant. Think about it, you may still have to live for 30 years, it's a very long time. Shouldn't you try to fulfill your dream and try to move? Perhaps if you do this and learn to enjoy all the benefits of Russia, it will be your happiest time?

That sounds pretty much close to my own bio aswell. Born Russian, but grew up, lived and studied in Germany for 15 years. In 2008 I decided to move back to my hometown of Krasnodar in Russia. Though I had hard times over here, I never regretted the move I made. Few months ago, my father moved back to Russia, rest of my family comes back soon aswell. Yes we considered doing exactly that. When I moved to Canada I was 4 and did not speak any English...I do not remember learning the language but obviously I did learn.

Orthodox American here. I'm seeing this happen a little more, western converts moving to Russia, always with big families. A big step but I think your grandchildren will thank you. The kids will be able to grow up in a normal society.

Russia is a totalitarian country without freedom of speech and human rights. with a low standard of living, low wages, rising prices for everything and poor infrastructure. Congrats on the move! We also are Expats of the USA now residing in Sochi for 2 years already. I grew up on a dairy farm in central MN. I know the feeling you and your family talk about the land and animals. Love all the comments already of support people have as encouragement. People mention muslim and christians and other religions living together. Yes, during the Communism era religion was stifled, but it doesn't mean people didn't practice in their hearts and homes. Plus, all the nationalities and religions of the people of the huge USSR land mass they traveled and worked together peacefully throughout all 15 Republics. As for someone mentioning dr's and clinics. Yes, you can call a dr to your home if someone is unable to go and they will come at no cost. Clinics and hospitals you don't need to wait for appointments if something is somewhat urgent. And yes, you can also schedule a time for dr visit as well. Then their are usually labs pretty much everywhere and you don't need a special drs prescription to draw blood or have a urine sample if you want to check something and its quite inexpensive. Medicine here is not run by insurance companies or pharmacutical companies. There are lots of free youtube videos to help learn Russian for toddlers, children and adults. I also love the free app which can be done on a computer and cell phone called duolingo. It's great! Okay enough for now, again, Congratulations on your move!

Могу дать совет, не комплексуйте по поводу языка. Говорите как можете, вас всегда поймут! В России много эмигрантов и многие плохо говорят на русском. Язык со временем выучите. Общайтесь по интернету с такими же как вы, найдите друзей из Америки, Австралии. Да в России очень много австралийских фермеров, думаю они с радостью помогут. У вас все равно будет тоска по родине. Это абсолютно нормально, любой нормальный человек любит свою родину и скучает по ней . Рассказывайте о своих планах здесь на канале, люди будут вам помогать и советовать!
Ну, если может тосковать по Родине, значит, действительно русский человек, где бы Родина ни была. Американцы вообще легки на подъем, легко меняют штат на штат, страну на страну, потому и дома строят не так капитально, как в России. Но понятие Родины мало у кого есть, у русских и ирландцев точно, а больше вот не знаю.

As a Russian (Moscow) myself I have to say that this is a super cold winter compared to anything of the last 10 years at the very least. Some years we didn't even had snow on the new years celebrations which felt really exotic for sure. I'm glad you're enjoying the winter times, but nothing beats the beautiful spring and the hot summer. Its nice to have 4 very distinct seasons like here. @@ThereIsAlwaysaWay2 I guessed I missed it, I have never found very hot summers in Russia. Cold in some regions in the north east, for sure. The first time in the east Jan 7, was -57c so all engines ran all night or might break springs or drive lines but here in St Petersburg in the north west, about the hottest is 30 but usually 20-26 in summer and coldest one night this year was -24 . Moscow gets colder and warmer but very livable. I moved from California where I lived in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, Central Valley and in Marin County and experienced much hotter and much colder there every year than my last 24 years here in Russia. It was colder and winters a lot longer historically before 2010-12 (St Petersburg has the longest record of weather measurements in the world dating every few hours since 1728). A major weather pattern shift happened in 2010 where the winters have been 1/2 as long and warmer every year since. That weather shift effected all of the northern Hemisphere so now Southern Canada has been colder longer when north western Russia has less snow, warmer many days of no snow or ice. For 10 years here I only word tennis shoes all winter and only last year got winter boots( I never found any that really fit well so did not care but my girlfriend thought I was crazy for not being effected by winters, ordered two pair of winter leather boots on-line(free delivery within an hour so our door bell rings 10 times a day with her orders, while I am old fashion and like try or feel things. I am too busy to wait for deliveries, I am out in the city doing things every day and night. We are both very active...I am 74, and fit and she is 45 and very fit, lawyer, yoga instructor certified wine expert, licenses tour guide for all the major museums, palaces, and estates here, and feminine with means one entire room of my city center apartment is filled with her vast collection of clothes, and at least 100 pairs of shoes. Another room is entirely filled with my electronics lab, that I used for both experiments but also income repairing pro audio equipment for studios, clubs and musicians. I rent another space for my pro photo studio where I have a active business of creating actor portfolios and opera, ballet and cinema actor stills, and sometime fashion work. I work with a lot of musicians, I am pretty well know here as producer/studio owner and engineer for the 197 gold and platinum albums done in my studio in the 70--90s in the US. I love the winters here, the pace slows, there are more cultural performances, it is not crowded with tourists etc.

I just discovered your channel yesterday. This is a very inspiring story and journey. The west really is in a dangerous and sickening moral free fall, and I can understand why you left. Congratulations on taking up residence in a country which secures its borders and retains conservative values. I follow several Russian content creators and have seen videos of the city you are in. Strange people think Russia maintains "conservative" values. I would argue, ironically, that Russia is retaining traditional liberal values, not conservative ones. I guess this just underscores how Western leadership is leading no one to happiness except those that can deliver to politicians very comfortable lives after they perform their "public service." Things just seemed to have gone off the deep end back here in the West and I'm tired of fighting what feels to be lost cause.

As a Siberian born, I know the best way to stay healthy in winter is to dress up warm, scarfs, gloves, hats, warm coat, two pants. Couple sweaters. A lot of hot tea. Get better soon!!!! And it's important to keep your forehead covered, not hoodies, but a hat, according to my own experience 😉

К сожалению и тут происходит упадок христианской веры: молодежь в основном атеисты, а взрослые исповедают «символическое христианство». Напротив происходит подъем исламской веры с её консервативными догмами. Однако с начала СВО Россия начала «осознавать себя» и уже идут подвижки особенно, что касается ЛГБТ - это есть и в большом количестве, но порицается государством и обществом. Сложные выборы будут вас преследовать. Россия большая страна, посмотрите где можно найти свою землю (как уроженец Алтайского края очень рекомендую заняться здесь фермерским хозяйством). Дружите с христианами и общинами - это спасение. Держитесь ближе к ним, люди там добрые, помогут во всем. Да благословит вас Господь и сохранит вашу семью!
При этом и молодёжь, и взрослые в большинстве разделяют христианские ценности, и вера тут не при чём, не надо навязывать религию насильно, не всем она нужна, чтобы быть Человеком. Лучше обратите свои усилия против культа золотого тельца, вот где настоящая опасность, когда деньги ставят во главу угла во всех сферах жизни и их количество определяет человека, а не то, как он их заработал. Но это влияние (по моему мнению положительное) пропадает с каждым днем и в замену ему, как раз таки приходят культы по типу «золотого тельца». Поэтому я считаю это негативным фактором, чем положительным или нейтральным. Вот вы крещеный агностик, я тоже крещеный агностик. In the USSR, engineers decided that it was bad to throw hot steam into the sky when a power plant was generating electricity. They decided to use this steam to heat houses and factories. The same steam is used to heat water for household needs. Therefore, I think heating tariffs are very low in Russia.

Nizhniy Novgorod is pretty good choice you made, I also used to live there for a while. It`s not as huge as Moscow or St-Petersburg, which is advantage, but is also quite well developed. Now the winter, wait for a spring for warmer days and enjoy our walks along the Volga river. The views from Nizhegorodsky Kremlin and sunsets there are amazing! I live in the West, and I promise you that what you see in films from Hollywood etc is just fantasy. The west is crumbling, our leaders are funded by anyone who has money and an agenda, and it's not good! No leader of any country is perfect, they are just human, but please be proud of Putin, he pulled Russia out of a very deep hole and now we in the west see Russia as the paradise that you used to think that America and the west was. As a former expat Canadian gone to France for 35 years, came back in 2015, how I would like to move to Mother Russia. But turning 70 in a few days, one daughter in Nova Scotia and the other two in Berlin, all I can do is admire your decision. You are in my prayers. Language learning will come in time, and before long your kids will be your interpreters. Over time, i believe you will realize how wise a decision this one will turn out to be.

Communicating with them, could make you feel that you are not alone. And other families are going through the same adaptation period. It’s easier to go through a big life changing stage with people that got through the same thing. Ask your lawyer to connect you with other families that moved to Russia. Search online, or ask others to point you to a community of people that also moved to Russia. I know that many Germans communicating with each other after moving to Russia. I am sure there are also English speaking communities out there.
If you are mobile and active, you would, at 70 find that Russia is very easy to live well in, with zero stress and if in a city, more access to services and culture than anywhere else in the world. In 6 months I will be 75 and moved from California after giving everything away....business, houses, cars, an airplane and flew to St Petersburg in Jan 2000 with only 2 suitcases and $6000, not knowing more than 10 words of Russia. Every day I feel very lucky I did it and did it without assets and complications. You will find others will be genuinely interested in your story and you as a person regardless of your social or economic status, and friends will be found daily. If you are interested in culture, such as art, museums, opera, jazz, history, drama, and socializing you will be in the prefect society. Being able to walk the streets and 600 parks in this city at 3am be perfectly safe takes some getting used to, but it is true. Everyone you meet on the street or in a ballet theater, will be genuinely warm and personable no matter your views, religion, politics ethnicity, origins, wealth, gender (there are only 2 genders in Russia, your biological sex and no one cares what gender you are attracted to as long as you are a good person, appearance or age. They only judge you on your character. Friends are often very different ages, but have some common interest. Most of my long term friends were young when we met because we had some common interest. I was in the music business and other fields, at the same time so young people seem to gravitate to me, and most of my frequent meet ups with friends are 20-35 years old because we attend the same events, and have many mutual friends There are 235 drama theaters in walking distance(no one needs a car with the great cheap and convenient public transport option), just under 300 world class museums, all among the best in the world and more than all North American combines times 5, 54 classical music grand halls, 16 ballet theaters, and 6 of the best opera houses in the world and all affordable, many jazz clubs, rock clubs, and 550 English style pubs, many with live music or a great place to meet friends or watch sports. You would be too busy out socializing to bother getting a tv,, there is just too many options to sit passively in front of a TV.
Heath care is great, even doctor house calls are free. The food is pure, no chemicals or GMO. Someone on Social Security will live a secure high quality of life impossible to duplicate regardless of wealth in the US or Canada.
If your pension is at least a thousand dollars, then this will be quite enough for a comfortable stay in Moscow, the most expensive city in Russia, because renting a good studio apartment in Moscow costs $ 500 per month, and the rest of the expenses are not so significant. Think about it, you may still have to live for 30 years, it's a very long time. Shouldn't you try to fulfill your dream and try to move? Perhaps if you do this and learn to enjoy all the benefits of Russia, it will be your happiest time?

That sounds pretty much close to my own bio aswell. Born Russian, but grew up, lived and studied in Germany for 15 years. In 2008 I decided to move back to my hometown of Krasnodar in Russia. Though I had hard times over here, I never regretted the move I made. Few months ago, my father moved back to Russia, rest of my family comes back soon aswell. У меня у самого 6й ребенок на подходе =) Вижу по глазам что автор видео переживает, у него сомнение в глазах что он сделал правильный выбор что приехал к нам =) Ему сложно так как тяжело коммуницировать =) Главное не сдаваться и не изолироваться от людей =) и не изолировать детей от окружающих.

Orthodox American here. I'm seeing this happen a little more, western converts moving to Russia, always with big families. A big step but I think your grandchildren will thank you. The kids will be able to grow up in a normal society.

Congrats on the move! We also are Expats of the USA now residing in Sochi for 2 years already. I grew up on a dairy farm in central MN. I know the feeling you and your family talk about the land and animals. Love all the comments already of support people have as encouragement. People mention muslim and christians and other religions living together. Yes, during the Communism era religion was stifled, but it doesn't mean people didn't practice in their hearts and homes. Plus, all the nationalities and religions of the people of the huge USSR land mass they traveled and worked together peacefully throughout all 15 Republics. As for someone mentioning dr's and clinics. Yes, you can call a dr to your home if someone is unable to go and they will come at no cost. Clinics and hospitals you don't need to wait for appointments if something is somewhat urgent. And yes, you can also schedule a time for dr visit as well. Then their are usually labs pretty much everywhere and you don't need a special drs prescription to draw blood or have a urine sample if you want to check something and its quite inexpensive. Medicine here is not run by insurance companies or pharmacutical companies. There are lots of free youtube videos to help learn Russian for toddlers, children and adults. Я живу в Росии уже 15 лет, приехала из Германии. Назад не собираюсь, нет больше той страны в которой я выросла . Ваши дети через год уже будут разговаривать на русском как на английском! Могу дать совет, не комплексуйте по поводу языка. Говорите как можете, вас всегда поймут! В России много эмигрантов и многие плохо говорят на русском. Язык со временем выучите. As a Russian (Moscow) myself I have to say that this is a super cold winter compared to anything of the last 10 years at the very least. Some years we didn't even had snow on the new years celebrations which felt really exotic for sure.
I'm glad you're enjoying the winter times, but nothing beats the beautiful spring and the hot summer. Its nice to have 4 very distinct seasons like here.

@@ThereIsAlwaysaWay2 I guessed I missed it, I have never found very hot summers in Russia. Cold in some regions in the north east, for sure. The first time in the east Jan 7, was -57c so all engines ran all night or might break springs or drive lines but here in St Petersburg in the north west, about the hottest is 30 but usually 20-26 in summer and coldest one night this year was -24 . Moscow gets colder and warmer but very livable. I moved from California where I lived in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, Central Valley and in Marin County and experienced much hotter and much colder there every year than my last 24 years here in Russia. It was colder and winters a lot longer historically before 2010-12 (St Petersburg has the longest record of weather measurements in the world dating every few hours since 1728). A major weather pattern shift happened in 2010 where the winters have been 1/2 as long and warmer every year since. That weather shift effected all of the northern Hemisphere so now Southern Canada has been colder longer when north western Russia has less snow, warmer many days of no snow or ice. For 10 years here I only word tennis shoes all winter and only last year got winter boots( I never found any that really fit well so did not care but my girlfriend thought I was crazy for not being effected by winters, ordered two pair of winter leather boots on-line(free delivery within an hour so our door bell rings 10 times a day with her orders, while I am old fashion and like try or feel things. I am too busy to wait for deliveries, I am out in the city doing things every day and night. We are both very active...I am 74, and fit and she is 45 and very fit, lawyer, yoga instructor certified wine expert, licenses tour guide for all the major museums, palaces, and estates here, and feminine with means one entire room of my city center apartment is filled with her vast collection of clothes, and at least 100 pairs of shoes. Another room is entirely filled with my electronics lab, that I used for both experiments but also income repairing pro audio equipment for studios, clubs and musicians. I rent another space for my pro photo studio where I have a active business of creating actor portfolios and opera, ballet and cinema actor stills, and sometime fashion work. I work with a lot of musicians, I am pretty well know here as producer/studio owner and engineer for the 197 gold and platinum albums done in my studio in the 70--90s in the US.
I love the winters here, the pace slows, there are more cultural performances, it is not crowded with tourists etc.

Strange people think Russia maintains "conservative" values. I would argue, ironically, that Russia is retaining traditional liberal values, not conservative ones. I guess this just underscores how Western leadership is leading no one to happiness except those that can deliver to politicians very comfortable lives after they perform their "public service." Things just seemed to have gone off the deep end back here in the West and I'm tired of fighting what feels to be lost cause.

As a Siberian born, I know the best way to stay healthy in winter is to dress up warm, scarfs, gloves, hats, warm coat, two pants. Couple sweaters. A lot of hot tea. Get better soon!!!! And it's important to keep your forehead covered, not hoodies, but a hat, according to my own experience 😉

Прекрасные люди! Я русский с Алтая и скажу, что Россия не настолько консервативная страна, как её преподносят в СМИ. К сожалению и тут происходит упадок христианской веры: молодежь в основном атеисты, а взрослые исповедают «символическое христианство». Напротив происходит подъем исламской веры с её консервативными догмами. Однако с начала СВО Россия начала «осознавать себя» и уже идут подвижки особенно, что касается ЛГБТ - это есть и в большом количестве, но порицается государством и обществом.
Сложные выборы будут вас преследовать. Россия большая страна, посмотрите где можно найти свою землю (как уроженец Алтайского края очень рекомендую заняться здесь фермерским хозяйством). Дружите с христианами и общинами - это спасение. Держитесь ближе к ним, люди там добрые, помогут во всем. Да благословит вас Господь и сохранит вашу семью!
При этом и молодёжь, и взрослые в большинстве разделяют христианские ценности, и вера тут не при чём, не надо навязывать религию насильно, не всем она нужна, чтобы быть Человеком. Лучше обратите свои усилия против культа золотого тельца, вот где настоящая опасность, когда деньги ставят во главу угла во всех сферах жизни и их количество определяет человека, а не то, как он их заработал. Всегда ваш "символический христианин", а точнее - крещёный агностик.

Nizhniy Novgorod is pretty good choice you made, I also used to live there for a while. It`s not as huge as Moscow or St-Petersburg, which is advantage, but is also quite well developed. Now the winter, wait for a spring for warmer days and enjoy our walks along the Volga river. The views from Nizhegorodsky Kremlin and sunsets there are amazing! This city has rich history, lot of interesting places, not only in the city itself but in the Nizhegorodsky region, also may deserve your attention. Добро пожаловать!

Your previous video was recommended to me by TH-cam, and although a lot people from the West come to Russia lately, its still little surprising and interesting to me (I'm russian). That's right, its because of what we see in Hollywood and successful propaganda about evil Putin, lack of freedom we have here, extra. I myself was thinking this way two years ago. And you need to remember that Russia was in a very VERY bad shape after the fall of Soviet Union. Only with Putin in power things started to change. So many people still had this idea of Europe and USA as a kind of paradise. Lucky this started to change too, people starts to be more appreciate of what we have here, more loving towards Russia.
Hopefully our bureaucracy won't be harsh on you, and documents you need will be ready quickly!
Nizhny is a very beautiful city, was there twice. The kremlin, the Oka and Volga, the old orthodox churches. Good place to start experience old russians cities.

I live in the West, and I promise you that what you see in films from Hollywood etc is just fantasy. The west is crumbling, our leaders are funded by anyone who has money and an agenda, and it's not good! No leader of any country is perfect, they are just human, but please be proud of Putin, he pulled Russia out of a very deep hole and now we in the west see Russia as the paradise that you used to think that America and the west was. Russia, and the Russian people can finally hold their heads high and be very proud of your country!
