Fun fact, Kirsten Supine was inspired by a film called Melancholia staring Kirsten Dunst. There is a scene where she is lying supine by a river, hence the title.
I interpret "She Loves Us", in maybe too literal of a way, as Michael Gira's desperate desire to belong to this unknown woman, to be absorbed with this individual and to be mutually understood. The chants of "mau mau mau mau" sound like some infant animal beckoning for its mother. "I am no thing, I am no one" read, to me, as both self-loathing and freedom from identifying as anything (having this sense of liberation that you are something non-human and nonexistent). Michael invites someone to his "house" (literal and metaphorical), his "mouth" (literal: kissing, metaphorical: talking), his "tongue" (more physical, specifically), then with his "lung" I interpret it as wanting her to be a part of his breath (living and existing as one together). At this point, I feel as though something goes untamed when Michael begins regressing into primal urges of sex and aggression, as he literally names this woman "fuck", which doesn't necessarily need to imply her being a sex object, but rather some unknown powerful force of ecstacy, pain, pleasure, something. "I'm going home" - Michael literally returning back to his primal and natural "space", not with this woman, but alone. "Do you understand?" at the end of this cursing, sexual, verbal freakout, Gira still struggles to achieve the connection of being understood.
Seeing as you like both Björk and Swans, I would love to see you react to the discography of Icelandic post-rock band Sigur Rós. They are amazing. The lead singer frequently sings in an angelic falsetto, and plays his electric guitar with an E bow, as if it were a cello. You've likely heard some of their songs like Hoppipolla, Festival or Staralfur in movies, tv shows or trailers. I discovered Björk first, which led me to Sigur Rós, and Sigur Rós led me to Swans. It feels like something would be missing if you never experienced them. (Disclaimer: if you do dive into this group, be warned that the first album, Von, is among the least popular and least representative of the sound they're known for. They really started to find their voice with the second album, Ágætis Byrjun (A Good Beginning), which is an absolute masterpiece.)

I can't quite pinpoint what/why it is, but I listen to Screenshot so so often...when running, when I'm feeling low, when I'm already in a good mood, and I just get elevated, heart rate goes up . The louder it is, the greater its effect. I always wonder if the neighbors can hear it and if they think I'm having a satanic ritual 🤣 Swans!
