Police Arrest Woman for Interfering With Maintenance at Beach Restrooms

- Santa Monica Police Officers from the DART team (Directed Action Response Team, formerly the Pier Task Force) issue an advisal to a woman at the Santa Monica Public restrooms on Friday, October 21, 2022. A couple of hours later, police officers were called back to the same public beach restroom for a woman interfering with maintenance activities. The woman allegedly resisted the officers and was arrested. She was charged with Santa Monica Municipal Code 4.55.090 Park and beach-Interference with maintenance activities, and Penal Code 148 a 1 PC, Resisting Arrest. Penal Code 148 a 1 PC. is the California statute that makes it a crime to willfully resist or obstruct a police officer, or EMT, in the performance of their official duties.
4.55.090 Park and beach-Interference with maintenance activities. No person shall interfere with or hinder any City employee engaged in maintenance or repair of any beach, beach facility, park or park facility. No person shall enter any beach area, beach facility, park, park area or park facility which is barricaded or fenced for maintenance or repair without City authorization. (Amended by Ord. No. 2398CCS § 2, adopted 4/24/12)
The newly formed DART team task force has been instrumental in helping to educate and enforce the City’s safety laws and ensuring safe sidewalk vending practices across the City.
The multi-department DART team consists of Santa Monica Police Officers, Santa Monica Code Enforcement Officers, Santa Monica Fire Department personnel, Santa Monica Harbor Patrol Officers, Public Works, and private security guards.

Unfortunately the regular clean up guys can't do their jobs anymore because some of these people attack them and even have weapons. Guns, knifes,drugs and more have been found in their stuff.

venice has allways been a spot for homeless people. its warm in winter. as long as they are respectful and not harrassing people leave them alone. i had to beat two drunk dumbasses ass on the board walk in 2010 because i was just homeless scum to them. referr to my statement above for enlightenment and education

Someone asked me after my last comment, was my knowledge from experience, about the mentally ill and why they are wondering the streets and not institutionalized?
My knowledge is both from experience and history. Most of the mental institutions were closed down after there was a public outcry about the conditions inside mental institutions. Most people were institutionalized and were kept there for life and were not allowed to leave. Laws were enacted that you could not keep somebody imprisoned against their will. Then when medications came around to help the mentally ill, they began to close down the institutions, to put them into community facilities. But the community facilities were never built. Unless the mentally ill are danger to themselves or somebody else they cannot be institutionalized. And even then if they are placed in an institution temporarily because they pose a danger to themselves or somebody else and put on medication, once they become better they have to let them go after a certain amount of time. Most of the mentally ill refuse to take their medications because of they don't like the way they feel when they take them. The people who are wandering the streets who are mentally ill, have fallen through the cracks who neither the community nor their family wants to care for them. These people would be better off if they were mentally challenged, what we used to call mental retarded. There's a abundance of financial assistance and help for the mentally challenged but not for the mentally ill. There is almost no financial help for their medications and almost no help for their families to deal with this.
These people cannot work, and unless laws are enacted to help support these people financially, by placing them in community centers as it was supposed to happen when they closed down the institutions, they will continue to wander to the streets. But what is happening is the public doesn't want them around. They simply want them to go away. And even when they put up places for them to stay such as a campsite it isn't long before the community wants them gone.
When you see people wandering around her mentally ill you need to ask yourself why we as a human race no longer care for those who can no longer care for themselves and want them to simply vanish off the face of the planet.

Santa Monica should hire sanitation workers instead of having their police and code enforcement employees clean up homeless garbage. Sad to see it. Make these facilities a pay to use with credit card only. Sad to say punish the good people, but you have to cut off public resources when those who take advantage of them don't even pay taxes to support them. Freeloaders need to go and the only way is to force them. Had to be said.
