Well. That's depressing. Henrik is faster in that 240Z than I am in a World Rally Car. Amazing driving. I was hoping it was the longer version of the stage so I could see you make the transition to the snow and ice at the top of the Col.
The Datsun 240z, a car that predates the foundation of the WRC, but was no doubt one of the most influential cars in Rally during its formative years as a world wide sport phenomenon. It holds its place amongst legends such as the Ford Escort and the Alpine A110. Against doubts, performed excellently in ice and snow. Finished 3rd in the 1972 Monte-Carlo Rally. It was kind of like an omen for what was to come. Japan manufacturers were pretty absent during the 80s Group B Era. Mazda and Toyota were planning on contributing to Group S with the RX7S (Mazda.) and the MR2 (Toyota.) but the Group S replacement never panned out due to the dangerous nature of Group B. Japan reentered the Rally scene in force during 90s, and later on spawned arguably the most iconic rally car to this day: The Subaru Impreza WRC. Since then, Japanese manufacturers have effectively taken control of the WRC. Quick, maneuverable cars and most of all extremely durable.
One of my favorite Group B cars was the 240RS. It didn't have a turbo! It never had a chance without a turbo but all the drivers knew it was the best driving car...cuz its a Datsun.
Now that is some serious car control! A super tail-happy RWD car with soft suspension on probably the slickest course in the game. Wow. I too would like to see the longer version of this stage! 😏
@@zuppiera2148 yea, just got one with a shifter too. Setting it up on beam was HARD but very fun and rewarding. I gave up on playing Dirt for now, it’s as hard as Dark Souls
@@Studio-IV My tip for Dirt is to give up on trying to go fast, start slow, learn the course, and you will probably do better going moderately fast than most people who try to gun it since that just ends in crashes or launching off course and getting 10+ seconds added on your time anyways.
Nice vid as usual, gorgeous replays on DR2. For those who think this is hard or close to impossible and are truly impressed, actually it is not. It is if the car is stock, then it is brilliant. Otherwise, it's all about setup (almost). When I see gears/speeds like these, I would bet there is extensive setup cause standard gears are usually crap and the gears ratio is close to perfection. He did setup it as a 4gears 65/90/120/160 (the 5th gear is pointless, he made a mistake in the straight line of sector 1, he made it perfectly in the second one, at the end of sector 3). Plus, 120km/h without understeer or drifting in the double left then right kick in sector 1 convinced me about a good job in the setup. Same deal for the left kick at the end of the first straight line, braking without under or oversteer. I say close to perfect cause, to me, the 3rd at 125 would be more suitable for those doubles and kicks (and 4th at 165, probably). There, in the double left and right kick, he must shift to 4th, lose time cause of this shift, and then lose torque, got less engine input on wheels, with a lower frequency (less tyre grip per second). Just a matter of reaching perfection :). Anyway, for those who struggles, really give a shot to setup cause it turns nightmares into daydreams. The target for WRC's and kit cars on that stage is 2:20. For 2WD oldies, 2:30. Plus, look well the vids of Henrik and find some tips, such as how he manages gears. Always better to keep full throttle 2-3 secs instead of shifting up. That's at least one good tip ! DR1 (and I assume DR2) penalize a lot the shifting with a significant torque breakup (especially on 90's cars and olders). Another tip: setup the gearbox according to the car/engine, do not hesitate to turn 6gears cars into 5 or even 4 (especially the Subaru's with peaks at 4500rpm), you will be surprised by the time you can spare. And shift accordingly (a.e. nothing to catch above 5500rpm with Sub's). In DR1, even the 1600cc WRC could be setup with only 5 or sometimes 4 gears, despite their lower torque and smaller engine. 1 full second spared on that short stage, just by doing that. Less torque breakup. Have a nice one :)

@@Jasman500 In SimRacing games, usually you can get a diagram per car, showing the torque and power curves. In DR, this is unfortunately not the case. However, on the ID sheet shortly presenting the car, I remember the power peak is written. So then, it is about trials and, most of the time, logic. This is the case for the Subs with their 4 cyl. boxer turbo engine. And from time time, it is about discovering new ways, like the Ford Fiesta WRC in DR1 (peak @ 5300pm) which is not that obvious to catch cause it is a 1600cc 4 in line. You do not expect such cars to be driven on "torque" like a Subaru. That one, I could not believe it was so slow compared to Mini JCW and Polo WRC. Actually, it is not if well setup and driven ! So then, somehow, you can guess the torque - power range. Usually, the high efficience range is between torque peak and power peak. Subaru Impreza group A 95, by heart, I remember its power peak @ 4800pm, more or less. And the useful/high efficience range is 4200 - 5500. So that one on Monte-Carlo, it's something like 60/85/140/195 (4 gears cause pure manual in DR1, lot of time lost when shifting), if I remember well. Why ? Cause you want full engine input on 1st and 2nd gears (tyre grip per second) and then max power at 110km/h (@ 5000rpm) and 150km/h (@ 5000rpm). This gearbox setup gives the feeling of driving slowly (especially because 1 and 2 corners are also taken in 3rd gear, not 2nd) but, at the end, the stage time does not lie. Plus, with this one, you get a very long "after peak", more than 2000rpm available, allowing to push even if you can feel the engine getting breathless. Why ? Cause shifting is highly penalizing, more penalizing (manual + clutch). So 5th gear is pointless and not recommended at all. So for the very few straights at Monte-Carlo, no shift up to 5th gear, never (unless you setup a very short 1st gear, like 40 or 50, only used for start). This is also very interesting for Finland (keep 4th all stage long) and Wales. Germany, you need the 5th (220-225km/h, 185km/h @ 5000 rpm). I can't say how I know that, I just played hundreds of hours, this is experience based on trials. I just started my trials based on what I explain just above then improved my setup. It is also a matter of feeling with the car. Nevertheless, an easy trial can be achieved by testing the 1st gear in tight hairpins on tarmac, at least to determine the torque peak. This way, you can test when torque is sufficient and when the car struggle too much, and then figure out the "peak" torque, which you cannot get below. However, this is a valid but not an aboslute test as it is depeding on the level of motricity, coming from your suspension and differential setup. High rpm's, well this one is more a matter of feeling. Does the car push or are you just running a vaccum ? Well for that one, maybe you can make trials on flugzeugring reverse, testing different gearbox setups. That stage is short and a nice blend of high speed, top speed, start-stop corners, hairpins and kicks. Also great for testing car stability while braking, brakes balance and force, as you get corners similar to Imola track, with braking while still turning. So many other weirdy things must be discovered in DR. Like the soft suspensions, even on tarmac. Most will setup hard springs and dampers. Well, stage times told me this is actually wrong, (at least in DR1). Softer, always softer, both springs and dampers. Then adjust sway bar. And get low, low, low, to soften even more. Then magical motricity and stage times fall down more than significantly. And even a stratos can be driven with one finger (I barely exagerate). Just need to give shots, make trials and build setups, and you'll learn (at least for DR). Another tip (you can see in some vids): always set the ride height 2-3mm higher on the rear, compared to the front. I would say mostly to allow the suspension to work "longer" and avoid to reach the limit too rapidly, then only relying on tyre grip. Then, when you loose tyre grip, the oversteer becomes dramatic and uncontrolled. Then, personally, I set the sway to avoid the suspension to reach its bumper and limit. The sway bar acts like the spring of the suspension, on tarmac. So you almost never fully rely on tyre grip only and oversteer can be managed quite gently. NB: pay attention that setup tips are, at the end, personnal tastes as well, not magical recipes, at the excepetion of the gearbox. For that one, only one setup is right, others aren't that close to perfection cause it is engine & stage related, not driver related. Plus, when you change one thing, all the others are influenced. Higher ride -> need stiffer sway bar and not too soft springs. Lower ride -> softer suspension and sway bar (less roll, obviously, cause of low gravity center). And so on.
I don’t know anything about vehicles or rally racing but witnessing this only shows me how amazing how man and machine can create such beautiful art to watch

The thing I REALLY want from realistic drivers is that "SRING-SQUII-SQUING" sound of the body reacting to road. It's actually one of my favorite mini features in Death Proof where you can hear the springy weird noises come from his Nova in the first act bc that's what a built bitch vehicle sounds like - tons of time money and aftermarket mixed with experienced mechanic work paired with solid fucking steel gapping holes and "fuck it, itll send" pure physics

Over 1 year on the G29 wheel, but I’m still a newbie in Dirt Rally. Love this driving.
Got my hands on the G29 just yesterday and it's fuckin hard on AC and BeamNG. A friend of mine said that dirt Rally is really hard
