- This is an alternative Pokemon speedrun, where I catch and use a Starly (and it's evolutions) to beat the entire game. For more information, I highly recommend reading the FAQ.

Starly is actually really good at beating the game. As evidenced by the fact that despite only 3 people having a time under 3:50 in Platinum with the optimal route (Empoleon), my very first run with Starly managed to do just that.
This was a reasonable run though, no spinners, and only one really bad fight throughout. There was some sloppy play towards the end game due to not having done the end game for a long while, but there isn't a huge amount of time to come off this one. So certainly a much better product than a typical first completed run.

Exarion beat his Ch'Ding% run but it was on emulator.

@@wyourw iirc the run wasn't accepted (or rather he didn't submit it in the first place) because he used a different emulator than the one that is approved by PSR

Honestly, I really like Doduo. Starly's still my fav since I grew up with Pearl (and intimidate is surprisingly helpful) but give my flying flightless bird a chance.

I just didn't compare it with Staraptor because I was specifically talking about birds, not flying mons in general^^
I LOVE the Starly line, but it's always irked me that it ended up Normal/Flying when it clearly should've been Fighting/Flying.

@@vespex6603 Yeah. Beat the game, get lucky enough to have a shuckle spawn on one of the routes with the "pokemon of the day" stuff from professor rowan, beat the elite 4 with AGAIN with an underleveled shuckle.

Is there a limit to the allowed use of Turtwig? it seems pretty unrestricted, as youre allowed to catch starly so late...

My first time checking out a stream was roughly around when you're dealing with Byron and his Gym. I wasn't able to stay long or comment much at all, but congrats nonetheless!
have you considered speedrunning anymore romhacks? or are most of them too imbalanced or have an exp curve that doesn't work out well for a speedrun
Yeah there are very, very few romhacks that fulfill all the requirements to be a good speedrun. Even just finding one that's actually completed is rare, so one that's completed and has a good level curve is super rare.
I'm still open to the idea, I just haven't found anything new that's got my interest like that.

Might you be going through how crazy getting the movement for manip is someday? Or just the RNG one you were planning to make
I remember playing Platinum back in the day. I used an Altaria named Tlaaria, a Gyarados named Yasgardo, A Garchomp named Phragmoc, a Gallade named Dalgael, an Absol named Salbo and an Empoleon named Pneolemo. Can you guess how I came up with these names? And do you really think they'll remake Diamond and Pearl for the Switch?

So the PID determines whether chansey holds an item.
i've read that you take the PID and modulo 100 with it. if the resultis 95 or higher, it holds the lucky egg. the problem is, i cannot divide a PID by 100 if it contains a Letter, for example 00000A. am i missing some maths?

When does a route go from Pokemon + to a not pokemon + strat? What if I used my starter for the first two gyms (say, I'm running a gabite+ route), would that qualify? By extension, Giratina +, which I would have to use something else for like the first 7 gyms
At what point does it stop being Starly + route and start being just another route

The thing something like Giratina would struggle to qualify for is "Your Alt Main must defeat the majority of Pokemon defeated throughout the entire run.", given it only appears well after half the game is done. You can however technically fight a huge amount of optionals after that point and have it qualify as the main mon that way. Not entirely interesting, but the only option available for super late pokes.

Return builds in power depending on how friendly the Pokémon is towards you, with a max power of 102. Because the move is normal type, Staraptor gets STAB, or same type attack bonus, boosting the move’s power to base 153 at max happiness, which happens based on how often the Pokémon is used. Staraptor also has really good attack, which definitely helps. Hope I answered your question.

If you can acquire your Alt Main Pokemon before defeating Gardenia, you must do so. If not, you must acquire your Alt Main with the lowest amount of badges possible.
After obtaining your Alt Main Pokemon and defeating Roark, your Alt Main must be used against every Pokemon that is defeated henceforth. Generally speaking, this means if experience is given, it should be able to receive some naturally. (i.e. without the Exp. Share)
Your Alt Main must defeat the majority of Pokemon defeated throughout the entire run.
basically, the Ideas is to catch it "early" in the run (which means before obtaining the second badge for the most games), but without forcing you to have to catch it at the very earliest point in the game even when it is clearly disadvantageous to do so. Because Starly SUCKS against roark (and so do quite a few other pokes, actually).

I doubt they have werster's skill, no offense to them. And it's not an official category.
They don't need skill if it's an unpopular category. Look up BOTW Dog%, some TH-camr became "third best in the world" in that category... because only 2 other people ever ran it.
Well if you don't need skill, do a starly speedrun like here and see how it goes.
And I'd say that for speedrunners it's #1 in the world or nothing
