  • The Sheraton Princess Kaiulani Hotel in Waikiki (Oahu, Hawaii) is a decent choice if you can get it for a reasonable price. If not, it may not be worth it.
This is a full review (and tour) of my room on the 16th floor of this hotel, which featured a city view - which was every bit as good as the ocean view IMHO.

Thanks for the review! I'm going there next month and booked this hotel. Maybe I might rethink my stay.

You're very welcome! I think I would have enjoyed this property a lot more if I hadn't stayed at the Moana Surfrider the night before lol. Just keep your expectations low and it won't seem all that bad.

I stayed there in about 1975 as a kid. Apart from the bed linen and some paint and carpet - it doesn’t look like much has changed !

That Hotel is Very Inexpensive compared to others in that area. Why did you stay there if you knew before hand that the rooms were like that? Didn't you look at any reviews?

That's the point - I didn't know that the rooms were like that. It really caught me off guard!

@@scottleazenby not all the rooms are like this. You booked a cheaper non-renovated room. If you had booked an updated room your review would likely have been different.

My first husband and I stayed in the Princess Kaiulani in 1988 and then again in 1995, because it's so much less expensive than all the others, but yes, it's basically the Motel 6 of the Waikiki hotels. I laughed when this video started because the rooms look exactly the same almost 40 years later. One memory that still remains is that the noise from the pool deck kept us up, especially on our first night when we had jet lag.

Good to know that the "vintage" vibe I was getting wasn't just me being pretentious lol. This would be a fantastic property if they would just freshen things up a bit!

@@scottleazenby Hey, if vintage 1980s is someone's thing, Princess Kauilani is the real thing... not faked nostalgic. :)

We’ve stayed at this hotel multiple times in the past 18 months and our experience has been very different.
Our rooms have been better appointed, our view was much better. This review covers only one type of room - the non-renovated rooms - and the reviewer does not mention this. A review acknowledging that there are better quality rooms available at this property would have been more fair-minded.
Comparing this hotel to the Moana Surfrider across the road isn’t particularly fair as that hotel is higher rated and vastly more expensive.
It’s really going to depend on what category of room you book as the rooms we have been assigned during our stays were not like this.

All good points. I wasn’t aware that the rooms were in the process of being renovated at this property, so that’s good to hear.
