  • Today I headed to the old town of Bangkok (Rattanakosin) to sample four tourist-friendly (but still authentic) Thai street food dishes in one area. I want to help you find authentic Thai street food wherever you are staying in Bangkok by giving you these little DIY food tours in every area of the city.
I had Rad Na Talay (gravy noodles with seafood) and Pad See Ew (wide rice noodles with soy sauce) at Rat Na Yot Phak 40 Years (ราดหน้ายอดผักสูตร 40 ปี), Kuay Teow Sukhothai (spicy and sour soup) at Ta Chai Sukhothai Noodles (ตาชัย ก๋วยเตี๋ยวสุโขทัย) and Ice Cream Nga Dum (sesame ice cream) at Natthaphon Coconut Ice Cream (นัฐพรไอศครีมกะทิสด)
Bangkok's Chinatown can be a bit overwhelming if it's your first time in Bangkok as it's so big, so I thought I'd do some videos to help break it down into sections so you can get some awesome street food wherever you go.
    Prices:
    Rad Na and Pad See Ew - 145 THB (£3.15 / $4.35)
    Kuay Teow Sukhothai - 50 THB (£1.10 / $1.50)
    Ice Cream x 2 - 80 THB (£1.74 / $2.40)
Directions and opening times to everywhere I went:
    Rat Na Yot Phak 40 Years (ราดหน้ายอดผักสูตร 40 ปี)
    g.page/ratna40...
Ta Chai Sukhothai Noodles (ตาชัย ก๋วยเตี๋ยวสุโขทัย)
    goo.gl/maps/W8...
    Natthaphon Coconut Ice Cream (นัฐพรไอศครีมกะทิสด)
    goo.gl/maps/y3...

My name’s Gary and I’ve been living in Bangkok for the past five plus years and travelling Thailand for over ten. I’m obsessed with Thai street food and it’s that obsession that led me to start this TH-cam channel. I want to share my favourite hidden spots in Bangkok and the rest of Thailand so you can fall in love with authentic, local Thai food as much as I have!
I’ve never understood travelling to a town or city and not eating the local food. How else do you really connect with a place? Let’s get out and explore together and I guarantee you’ll find a whole different side to this wonderful country.
If you love seeing off the beaten path, non-touristy, local life and authentic local life in Bangkok and Thailand then this is the channel for you. If go go bars on the Sukhumvit Road are more your thing (I’m not judging) then maybe not!

I can totally relate to what you are saying about eating out in the REAL Thai places. Good luck getting 99% of expats to listen or for that fact, many tourists whose diet in Thailand is beer, Pad Thai, Fried Rice, and Banana pancakes. In the hundreds of places I have eaten throughout Thailand in twenty years I can count less than twenty foreigners I have seen eating out alone and most of them spoke some Thai enough to order. Fine with me I have dozens of my own secret hangouts all to myself and of course, I would share with you.

Just came across a video of yours today and now im watching them all. As a Thai, sometimes I take things for granted and only look for expensive foreign meals, while forgetting that these hidden street food gems are what makes Thai food so special and diverse in different parts of the country. Thanks for taking us on a tour that makes my belly groans and helps remind me to explore more street food around my own country. 🙏 But definitely a bad idea to be watching it this late at night.

But I know what you mean, I do exactly the same in England. You forget how good your own countries food is. I think that’s the same everywhere!

In Thailand, food menus that are often sold together are:
Rad Na with Fried Soy Sauce
    Pad Thai with fried clams
    Chicken Rice with Chicken Noodles
    Duck Rice with Duck Noodles
Pork leg rice with red pork rice, crispy pork, etc.
If one menu is delicious Other dishes are usually delicious as well.

Not sure whether you already knew how different between Tomyum noodle and Sukhothai noodle yet. As far as I know, Sukhothai noodle put palm sugar, Tomyum noodle put white sugar. Sukhothai Noodle put green bean and pickle radis, Tomyou noodle don't put green bean and will use dry cabbage leaves. Last but not least, Sukhothai noodle will use pork (mostly red BBQ pork and mint pork), but Tomyum will add fish ball inaddition to pork and normally don't use red pork.
Please don't forget to said "waan nooi" next time you eat Tomyum or Sukhothai noodle, cause you probably knew they will be quite sweet. ^^

    Loving this, too, Gary.
I used to get “Mi Krop moo” everyday in Hua Hin,
Unfortunately the old school joint closed down,
    Now Nowhere else comes close.
Your’s looked even better, that’s comfort food, right there.
I can almost taste the added chilli vinegar and roasted flakes.
    Mmmmmmm!

It’s comfort food at its finest isn’t it Chris? I can’t believe it took me three years of being here to start eating it!
That’s such a shame about your restaurant, so many places have closed here too.
Can’t live without the chilli and flakes!

Rad Na is noodle dish with gluey broth. It usually come with fried egg noodle, marinated pork and chinese kale but if you can find specialize shop I recommend you to tried Zen Yai (large size rice noodle) they stir fried it with very high heat so you can smell something that Thai ppl said Wok smell. that wok smell you can find it with many menus like Pad Se-eiw, Kua Gai or Khaw pad (stir fried rice) so if you want to try these menus at their best please find the specialize shop.
