You've honestly changed my whole world about how I approach video game music. I remember the Mega Man 2 ending midi music affecting me ~30 years ago, but I never really gave it what it deserves until you explained and showed over and over and over how this is a new medium of maestros and shouldn't be shunned just because it's a "game"
Funny thing is her codename is Karenina - Radiant Daybreak, and she grew up from a rough childhood as a homeless person, and when she grew up, she created a 1-way rivalry with one of the main characters (always comparing herself to her rival)
Thank you for the high quality music analysis as always! As a PGR player, I have to say that I admire your ability to understand music so well without ever having played the story of a game. I hope you can always produce such high-quality videos in the future, and I will always support your work!
I think 4:22 part is strongly inspired by Interstellar. Same motif and same organ instrument, but with more speed. It really captures the feeling of being in space.
Seeing this game years ago, being teased for CN only (which had me heart broken), seeing the games art and combat absolutely hooked me in, waiting and waiting for it's release. Up to now where we're almost at the 1.5 year anniversary with the NA client, everything that makes PGR what it is, is so amazing. It brings such a big dorky smile to my face. Watching your reactions to these songs brings back those chills I had when first hearing and then experiencing them. Having you express what emotions you feel, what emotions these songs can make others feel if they truly listen to them, it's a genuine treat. Whether you're playing the game, experiencing it in the thick of it or watching it on youtube, spotify or just watching someone play through it on Twitch. Wonderful video Marco.
I love how he manages to describe emotions just through music, and accurately describe what that character is really feeling and that's almost exactly what Karenina is feeling
You HAVE to listen to Edenis next - it's the perfect antithesis to this uplifting track (though most Global players don't know the full context of Last Resort, cuz it's a ways away from launching - still a great song though!) But Edenis just came out on global. It is *gnarly*, but like in a good way; I would describe its genre as 'EDM' (Existential Despair Music).
last resort was wasted on that boss battle, the guy is thrashing around doing nothing while getting beat up... the story was just made to build up for liv's chapter, which had a very good delivery, but the last resort track would've been much better utilized when we're trying to save liv... it's such a waste
THERE IT IS BABY, THE BEST TRACK IN THE GAME. Quoting a comment on the track's official upload that has stuck with me: "This what you hear upon the final battle, when the sky opens and the heavens sing."
this song just came to global a few days ago so seeing this video in recommendations is a nice coincidence. 8:10 i like how you said that considering an important character during the new chapter regains the ability to 'ascend' so to speak, after formerly losing all of her powers due to despair and aimlessness. you also talked about how the song sounded hopeful which is spot on - the protagonist of this chapter (girl with the hammer in the video) is conflicted with tearing down one of humanity's biggest beacons of hope - she eventually does so at the behest of everyone else, with the intention of rebuilding that hope later in the future.
This is what I love about Video game music, and your whole channel. OSTs are not just, ambient music tracks anymore. They do so much heavy lifting in a story, imparting emotions, feelings, and ideas upon the player as they play. Video Game music is a form of art, and there are some artist who really have mastered how to use it.
Exorcism is awesome - I love the use of violins as a buildup (as opposed to standard electronic instruments). The whole track is very disconcerting but in a very pleasing-to-the-ears way haha. Though TBH my favorite PGR track is whichever one I happen to listening to at that moment. I never listen to just one - if I start listening to one I have to listen to 'em all lol.
I love this game's music and I'm getting goosebumps simultaneously from listening to the soundtrack, your in-depth, artistic description of the palette of emotions these sounds awake, and simply watching you being immersed in it. I am so thankful how we all connect through this music, it really feels transcendental 💜
i dont even play this game but marco, you've given me more than enough reason to at the very least, see how this game actually plays. goddamn thats good
ngl, cried loudly when 5:50 came out during this chapter, when babylonia starts to shine in the lonely universe for no one but karenina herself to send the most needed support at the moment.
Kreygasm when the chorus comes in. Nice breakdown and analysis of the music as usual Marco. When the first time I heard this music, I feel like there was an undying, rising hope against crisis when the organ comes in. While the chorus makes me feel like "There's no time to give up yet. I have a fight I need to win". It's fascinating how music without lyrics can deliver such messages without us knowing the context.
context for Last Resort avoid if you care about spoilers the Character is Karenina, model Radiant Daybreak. The captain of Engineering Force in charge of the construction of the Zero Point Reactor (AKA a form of energy that has a similar role as the ARC reactor from Iron Man, it has unrival energy generation but also the power to produce omega weapons that can counter the main danger in PGR the virus. However she is stuck in a rock and a hard place, an "Unknown Hetero Creature" known as the moon devourer has swallowed the Zero Point Reactor and it can cause a catastrophe of shattering the entire moon while its fragments will then fall into the earth causing another extinction level event equal to the age of the dinosaurs. However if she kills the moon beast, she will be labelled as an enemy of babylonia and will be hunted by its secret police "The Purification Force" led by her best friend Bianca because as the reactor is a highly valuable and classified piece of government property and technology. Left with indecision and hesistation, another character upon the moon base betted on Babylonia surrendering Karenina to her fate and will pack their bags and move to a new galaxy and planet. Karenina who have been alone ever since her childhood still keeps a steadfast fascade that even though humans are currently weak and fragile, they can also grow to be strong and that dawn will come even through the blackest of nights. The song comes into action when Karenina sees her strand of hope fluttering in the dark of space even when everything seemed lost. As to how? I will let you find out in the "new divide" chapter as it is the dawn after the nightmare that is evernight beat followed by light of survival. One of my favourite chapters as it demonstrates that no man or woman is an island and that the pen is mightier than the sword in certain circumstances or gravity hammer in this case.

Heck yeah, another great video! Like you said, Marco, the beginning is like the start of a new dawn, the new frontier space. And I would say that you were correct when you thought it was about an individual's determination. Karenina is very determined, very competitive, and will fix a problem that needs fixing (she is an engineer, after all.) What I love about these songs from all the amazing artists from Vanguard Sound Studio is that their music does reflect characters (each of their backstories are worth you time by the way) and sets the tone, builds up and crescendos for each story arc's climax. Can't wait for your reactions to the rest of the OST

It's finally hereee!!!
Marcos facial reactions are awesome
music is too good, when for most of the song, marco just jams, speechlessly. I'd listen to more if I wasn't scared of getting into yet another game that will absorb all my hours and existence like warframe did and genshin has... :V
It's worth it
I'm waiting for another reaction punishing gray raven
You really did amazing job analyzing those PGR tracks.
Well it's about time. This is one of the tracks that I actively listen to on a daily basis. When organ drops at 4:22, one of the things that cross my mind is,
"Oh, an organ-ish sound. I wonder how he'll react to this."
Woa, thats a lot to cram into one song :o
Please react to "Exorcism". My favourite soundtrack of all time from Vanguard Studios that was made for PGR
Fun fact: the update where this soundtrack is used is titled "A New Hope"
For some reasons, the part right here 4:23 reminds me of Interstellar
No comments, just vibing, and apreciation
And so it continues
Ooooh shoot the Interstellar of anime
Anime Hanz Zimmer Piece
XD
Late Merry Christmas by the way!
It's crazy to me that this soundtrack doesn't miss but Wuthering Waves feels so lame. I know it's not the same sound team but can someone from Kuro call them back? lol
Finnally, he reacted to Last Resort. XD
