My aunt used to make these around the holidays every year. She's been gone now since 2005 but this video instantly reminded me of her. I'm not much of a sweet and salty person but there's definitely something magical about a potato chip cookie, and hundreds of them cooling on every surface available in the house. :)
I tried to make these. My grandson called and asked what I was doing. I told ruining Chef John's cookies. He laughed at me. Told me how could I ruin them, they're easy. Yeah, unless I want them to be nice. So, since we never let the food win, I made up another batch but backed the heat down to 350 and baked them in a 9x9 pan. They turned out great. My grandson look at the first ones and started laughing like it was best comedy ever. So happy Christmas John and Michelle. Thank you for the recipes.
So I'm not the only one 😂. After years of hearing him say it's a good workout 🤣. Well I guess he's getting a good workout growing his own food now (just like me)!
I've always made cheesecake (3 lb. cream cheese) by hand with a fork or slotted spoon and spatula for scraping the bowl. Not hard at all but takes more time. Don't let lack of a mixer stop you from baking.
It is a well-known sort-of fact that hand-mixing your desserts burns enough calories to offset less than 1/10 of a serving of dessert. But it does make you feel better and it will maybe burn up to 10 calories if you work hard enough.
my neighbor lady used to put a cup of crunched corn flakes in her toll house cookies. they were great. i make them now and also add a cup of cocoa puffs.
Grew up above our family restaurant and bar… we bought potato chips in 25 lb. boxes. We made potato chip cookies all the time to save waste, loved them.
I delight my family and friends by doing spot-on impressions of people. My mom is the only one I know who also watches this, but the impression of you that I have mastered always makes her laugh. Thank you for being you
@@central_scrutinizrso many people on here make a lot of the same stuff. Chef John has done several things I'd never even heard of before and I think that creative streak is a big part of cooking. Merry Xmas and happy holiday!!!!
omg your still going i cant believe it lol i randomly started humming your opening and i havent watched for 5 years i had to know if your still around and you are and you sound exactly the same lol wow
Chef I always watch you videos, but only when I feel like cooking. Today I did not want to cook, but I saw this and guess what...Im on my way to the store 😅
Just cranked out a batch for Santa with my 2 kids and they turned out fantastic! It's a brilliant recipe - the chips add a lot: crispy, slightly chewier, a mysteriously delightful savory and salty combination... one thing that I can't really sense in them is any potato flavor at all. I'd probably never guess what the secret ingredient was if I was blindfolded. Now I just have to make them last 6 more days so Santa can actually get one 😅
I have a quick butter softening trick for you chef john. If you are wearing a pair of sports pants or shorts just put the butter in your pockets. Your body temp will bring the butter to perfect softness, without melting them, in about 20 min.
The other day I was in a different head space, lets say that, and I was eating ruffles potato chips and pancakes at the same time, the sweet and savory worked so well it gave me the idea to add ruffles to my pancakes. And now I saw this video and I know know that im not crazy! Chips and dessert works
And i'm glad you finally aknowledged the whole "eating directly out of the pan instead of putting a portion into a bowl/on a plate" thing. I noticed you did it again at the end but just having it be recognised is a kind gesture
I've had these before and they are quite good. One time we made some oatmeal raisin cookies but used chocolate covered raisins instead. They came out fantastic! I wonder how they'd be in this recipe? 🤔
@@glacialimpala, I like golden raisins because they seem to be more plump and chewy. In cookies or bread pudding they’re my favorite, I wonder how they would be as chocolate covered raisins.
Wow I just remembered seeing this that my Mom would make potato chip cookies when I was a kid and they were fantastic! They taste nothing like a potato chip but have this incredible crisp and chew.
My mom made a recipe for these a couple of times. I'm wondering how these would be with butterscotch chips instead of chocolate chips to get a fast try at a salted "caramel" type cookie.
They look really, really good! For me, definitely will add an extra chip or two! Just wondering about chilling for a better texture. Chilling improves the texture in what way exactly?
I too lack the foresight to take my butter out and let it get to room temp but I’ve had success with microwaving the butter for 10 second blasts at half power, rotating the stick onto another side until it’s soft.
If you have never tried it, chocolate chip cookies taste great when eaten with potato chips. They palate-cleanse for each other and each makes the other taste better.
This recipe was amazing!!!! I used chocolate covered potato chips with this recipe. This makes a lot of batter I got 32 cookies out of this or 30 now. I had to eat a couple.😄
I have a chocolate chip recipe I modified that produces cookies that everyone loves. At the suggestion of our condos' concierge I added cooked bacon bits to some of last batch and got a surprisingly good reaction. Now, I'm going to have to add potato chips. But first, I'll follow Food Wishes' recipe to the letter. Maybe tomorrow I try this.
The recipe I have turns them basically into Russian Tea Cakes or Mexican Wedding cakes. When they come out of the oven you roll them in powdered sugar. They are amazing!!!! ❤❤❤❤
I never know the names of anyone, but when I heard the voice, I squealed. Haven't been on the channel in a while. Love this guy! Perfect videos. Seriously. Great direction, great video, great recipes.
One of my grandmother's long lost recipes was a potato chip cookie, but it was more like a sugar cookie. I have been searching everywhere for a similar one. Perhaps I'll try this one.
Adjacent to your comment on my sidebar, TH-cam put a thumbnail for a recipe called "potato chip cookies". It was posted by Gio's Kindred Kitchen, and it looks like it could be a sugar-type cookie.
Of course! PB&J is much improved with a layer of thin-ish potato chips in the middle. How could the same not be true for chocolate chip cookies? Thank you Chef John. I will be making these ASAP, although possibly with milk chocolate chips.
hey Chef revisiting and old recipie manhattan clam chowder TASTY soup! quick suggestion though add chopped clams when rest is finished aling with SHRIMP! allow the heat from the soup to cook the seafood gently residual heat is plenty to cook shrimp and clams! So happy Christmas John and Michelle.
Thank you for the recipes.
I’m always amazed when Chef John uses hand mixers. We’ve seen him make cheesecakes with pure muscle only.
So I'm not the only one 😂. After years of hearing him say it's a good workout 🤣. Well I guess he's getting a good workout growing his own food now (just like me)!

I did dalgona by hand one time and it took forever. It's mostly just time compensating for how fast you can mix.
It is a well-known sort-of fact that hand-mixing your desserts burns enough calories to offset less than 1/10 of a serving of dessert. But it does make you feel better and it will maybe burn up to 10 calories if you work hard enough.
working in kitchens gives you lunchlady arms
I’m here for the narration. I can listen to Chef John all day!!
As my late dad says; it's the sweet/ salty thing going on is what makes them good.
my neighbor lady used to put a cup of crunched corn flakes in her toll house cookies. they were great.
i make them now and also add a cup of cocoa puffs.
Chef John, after all this time you still amaze us with these recipes. You're an (inter)national treasure
I would not even have looked at this if it was Chef John doing it.
Chef John got me through 5 surgeries and covid!❤
Grew up above our family restaurant and bar… we bought potato chips in 25 lb. boxes. We made potato chip cookies all the time to save waste, loved them.
you and your cooking videos just make me happy
When I see someone crushing potato chips with their hands, it feels like they are crushing my heart with their hands lol.

“Delicious and irresistible as they are fascinating.” Chef John that’s *you* my guy.
I'm some what of a chocolate chip cookie aficionado so I'm definitely going to be trying this one! 🍪
I baked it today and Chef John it's so yummy! I'll add it to my cookies menu for my customers. Thanks, heaps.
This is crazy, I just made these for the first time over the weekend 😮... they are incredible ❤
Chef john seems like the best dad you could ever ask for
Yum. This sounds delicious. Always love sweet and savory. Wish I would've thought of this. Thanks Chef John.
Kettle chips are absolutely my go to potato chip brand. I love their unique flavor profiles
We get these here in Ireland..What flavour do U use?
I’ve been following this channel for YEARS and I’m still amazed by your recipes
Sounds tasty!
Texturally Fascinating 😊❤ great description Chef!

"I have a pretty good idea what inspired them." *insert 'extracurricular' bubbling noise from the inside-out grilled cheese video here*
What did I just watch? I want them now

Someone should let him know he can tell Siri “remind me to take the butter out at 8am tomorrow” 😂

This looks wonderful. Ill defiently have to make these!
I'm definitely trying this. Thanks John!
It feels like chef john finished doing classic recipes and started cooking whole new ones
Ahhh…
The dream
Good day to all and season's greetings, please and joy.
Thank you for another creative and fun recipe delivered in a thoroughly entertaining video.
I love how your videos are just simple. I will definitely try these!
Chef John is getting more and more into stoner territory 😂
BAHAHA!!!
I've had these before and they are quite good. One time we made some oatmeal raisin cookies but used chocolate covered raisins instead. They came out fantastic! I wonder how they'd be in this recipe? 🤔
I never understood why raisins get a bad rep in mainstream cookie depictions, they're so tasty and fun to chew ❤
@@glacialimpala, I like golden raisins because they seem to be more plump and chewy. In cookies or bread pudding they’re my favorite, I wonder how they would be as chocolate covered raisins.
This is so unique I gotta try this
Chocolate Chips are measured with your Heart.
Chef John prefers the 2-1-2-1-2 method, but I think the 3-2-3 works better for these cookies.
I mean I prefer a 4-2-3-1 wide diamond, but you do you.
Sounds tasty, so trying it
you’re the best chef john!
Wow I just remembered seeing this that my Mom would make potato chip cookies when I was a kid and they were fantastic! They taste nothing like a potato chip but have this incredible crisp and chew.
my grandmother made these with butterscotch. those are still my favorite cookie.
My mom made a recipe for these a couple of times.
I'm wondering how these would be with butterscotch chips instead of chocolate chips to get a fast try at a salted "caramel" type cookie.
Oooh, that does sound worth trying!
I am 💯 making these this weekend!!! holy moly
They look really, really good! For me, definitely will add an extra chip or two! Just wondering about chilling for a better texture. Chilling improves the texture in what way exactly?
Does not thin as fast (cold temp keeps middle firmer while outside cooks and sets). So you get a little more density and volume in middle.
good to know, thank you!@@pmbcdirector1489
Something about letting the flour hydrate while chilling makes the texture better
If you don’t like potato chips, Wheaties Cereal or Raisin Bran can add texture to a cookie without the salt.
I’ve made them with Rice Krispies. They’re not a salty contribution but add a definite texture innovation.
I had chocolate and potato chip ice cream before and that was amazing, so I am sure this is as well.
Nice idea! When I visited Japan I would always buy chocolate covered potato chips so this makes sense to me.
Honestly don't even crumble the chips! I mixed them in by hand and it worked out perfectly!
These are like the Trashcan cookies my wife makes, except they have pretzels and sprinkles too. 👍
Another fabulous recipe and video by Chef John and Food Wishes! I look forward to every Tuesday and Friday!
These look delicious John, definitely going to give these a try. Thank you and Happy Holidays🎄.
I too lack the foresight to take my butter out and let it get to room temp but I’ve had success with microwaving the butter for 10 second blasts at half power, rotating the stick onto another side until it’s soft.
Those def need more chocolate!
I always like to add potato chips to my PB&J. Gonna have to try these!
If you have never tried it, chocolate chip cookies taste great when eaten with potato chips. They palate-cleanse for each other and each makes the other taste better.
What size cookie scoop are you using here Chef John?
It’s funny how adding odd stuff works. You can add a little coconut too. Makes it chewy but not doughy chewy and doesn’t taste like coconut.
This recipe was amazing!!!! I used chocolate covered potato chips with this recipe. This makes a lot of batter I got 32 cookies out of this or 30 now. I had to eat a couple.😄
All hail to the Chef
Yummy!
Can't wait to make these for my cookie exchange!

Potatoes 👍I am hoping that Chef John will do Danish caramelised potatoes 😋A classic Christmas side dish in Scandinavia
You got me on this. Been making potato chip sandwiches for years but never thought of making cookies 🤔
The recipe I have turns them basically into Russian Tea Cakes or Mexican Wedding cakes. When they come out of the oven you roll them in powdered sugar. They are amazing!!!! ❤❤❤❤
That's the version I grew up with! I think my mom only made them once or twice, but they still live rent free in my head.
I need to try this❤
I definitely will try this soon 👀
I presume the butter is unsalted. Potato chips in chocolate chip cookies: it's a mad, mad world.
I can’t imagine anything other than a joint could inspire something like this
I cant wait to make! All i need is the chips :O.
Hi Chef John-what size disher do you use for cookies? Thanks!
Thank you Chef John! I've heard that these are delicious 😋
We have made these around the holidays forever! We do them with butterscotch chips instead of chocolate though
Been doing this one for a few years and after having done many experiments find that salt & vinegar ripples tastes best.
How fun! I have my own chocolate chip cookie recipe but I’ll add potato chips to it the next time I make it and see how that tastes 😋
Salty/sweet! Genius😋. For that matter I’m thinking pretzels crushed up too.
I remember my grandmother making these as I was growing up. But we used butterscotch chips instead of chocolate chips. Absolutely delicious 😋
I never know the names of anyone, but when I heard the voice, I squealed. Haven't been on the channel in a while.
Love this guy!

Wow. Amazeballs. I’m making these hairy arm cookies soooooon!
LOL ~ I love that you share good ups ( too small of a bowl 😁)
Recipe sounds a yumma num!
I used to dip chips in my ice cream and people called me crazy. I called it innovative!!
I'm going to have three heart attacks after I've eaten these cookies but I HAVE to make them 😂
Intriguing 🍪🥔 🤨😋!

I also add orange jest and butterscotch chips.

TASTY soup!
quick suggestion though
add chopped clams when rest is finished aling with SHRIMP!
allow the heat from the soup to cook the seafood gently
residual heat is plenty to cook shrimp and clams!
KEEP THE GREAT FOID COMING!!
My friends and family love them!
And to think I have been eating cookies & potato chips separately. I will doing this recipe from now on
