A fascinating look behind the curtain and a great way to start a wet Bank Holiday weekend. I look forward to seeing Alexei as a grumpy neighbour on "Not Going Out" some time soon. FOB.
Lee Mack is spot on when he talks about how good 'Alexei Sayles Stuff' is, all the seasons are classic mad/loud and bad Alexei. Really hope they do re-runs of it sometime as long as they don't over edit and remove jokes like they did with the Young Ones on iPlayer.
I remember buying my ,'then' brother in law your book parody of ,' murder on the orient express ' , set on a Liverpool,' football special ' train ,that were so prevelant ,then . Get the juices flowing. More books !
Great podcast.
Really enjoyed that.
Stumbled across this podcast and it's great - cheers Alexei. Particularly enjoyed the end of the conversation around Stuff. As mentioned it is available if you know where to look, but would be great if it was publicly available again (minus the laughter track 😉). Series 2 in particular was some of the best TV comedy ever!
Lee Mack, he's not a bastard. This should have been the title.
I listen to a couple of Glasgow Celtic Pods . There is a commenter with the nom d' plume Bobby Chariot. With your fizog as the avatar , Alexei .
Well ? Is it ? 😃
Literally thirty seconds ago I found this film with Alexei Sayle listed in the opening credits: 'The Bride' th-cam.com/video/e-rWn445TgQ/w-d-xo.html
Thoroughly enjoying your podcast here, and Strangers on a Train, which always lifts my mental health, and I'd like to email bbc to ask for (encourage? demand!) a fourth series, now that I know you're keen to continue it...please can you give me the email address?
Surely Lee Mackrell
Fantastic interviews well done.
Great part 2. Thanks. Just a quick note - Lee's audio was lacking somewhat... perhaps distance between him and the mic?

cool. George Galloway will get a mention. Labour party rebels.
I think the reason alexei's stuff isn't repeated partly because it topical but mostly because its a bit too modern in style and anarchic for UK TV Gold and too old for Dave who seem to only repeat stuff from the mid 00s onward. Hes a victim of his own success, his comedy hasn't dated. Mrs Marple followed by Only fools and horses makes sense. Poirot followed by Alexei Sayles stuff might cause middle England to collapse.
It would probably get repeated on that really obscure digital channel, like the one Rab C. Nesbit's currently on. I just don't see Stuff having that much appeal, it was very alt. and had by today's standard very rough production values and as you say it was mostly of the moment observations.
