I've heard way worse things said before honestly. That tweet is nothing compared to what I heard

I would say that mid to late 60s-70s movies had more somber or poetic constructions (if you will allow the phrase). The hero of these films would not always succeed by default. Instead, there was more focus on lessons learned or grander social commentary. Classics like Bullit, Mean Streets, Dog Day Afternoon, Chinatown, One Flew Over the Cuckoos' Nest, Taxi Driver, and even Saturday Night Fever come to mind as films where either the hero dies, doesn't get the girl/happy life, or must exit without accomplishing his primary goal because the reality is that it isn't always possible for one being to make a difference. Not to get long-winded but the context of the 1960s-1970s had a lot to do with counter-culture and greater awareness of the world. Additionaly, these films served as deconstructions of the "typical" films that existed before them. I only mention this because in my opinion, the 1970s film era may have been the most poignant film era and I wish there was more appreciation for films that aren't just about the "feel good moments". Maybe they would make more if people watched.
