It is sooo refreshing to hear someone talk about this remake in a positive lens for a change. It seems nearly everyone is just looking for indications that it will fail, and I can’t imagine the pressure it must be putting on the development team.

I think you're overlooking the reasons why people are upset with how the series is treated, wanting it to fail because Konami has ignored everything said to them and always have in the past concerning the series.

Uh . Toyama said "I think it would be harder to remake than resident evil, because the gameplay as a concept is a little older, but it’s not an action game either where you can just refine the action as in resident evil. To bring silent hill up to current standards or to polish up the graphics, the fans wouldn’t be satisfied. That’s not what it was about, how beautiful it was. @@catfish_6969 I'm not sure what you're saying that would be in disagreement. Some things would need be changed, ad to what that is would be the issue. What Konami has changed, seemingly the lore and focusing heavy on only SH2's one theme is a mistake given the two outings so far have flopped.

      @blumiu2426 .
You cant be look at every screenshot, video and piece of news expecting it to fail and then think your not overlooking in the other direction. The gaming muse literally pointing out things that show it being faithful to the original and the fact that they're the only ones doing that in the sea of youtubers who claim to be silent hill lovers is telling. The series combat was always the games number 1 complaint. Now the flaw combat is perfect? Come on now.. cats mad at the camera angles like almost every horrible game doesn't have the same camera angle.. like re remakes weren't considered the definitive ways to play the games now.
Let's be real.. people are hate hunting and instead of checking themselves, they're justifying it by using Konami hate.
Is it perfect? No but is isn't that bad either.

"Because Cynthia was about to eat my ass" and "poison jizz". Haha, I immediately had to go back and listen to that to be sure I heard that right :) I do love the points you make about the camera for combat is MUCH better from a 3rd person compared to the older games. They aren't doing a HC or RE bad ass soldier style combat which is good. They are improving the combat which is what we want. Make that part "fun" as you said. Static cameras / fixed angles are fine for the occasional cinematic / non-combat moments like they were in the original games (and in The Medium as well). SH1 really was the one game that used them effectively. I truly think this is old footage / older version of the game that made up this trailer, and it was held on to for a long while. It's clear some parts were brightened (gamma set higher) on purpose. The trailer was created by Konami (not Bloober), so in regards to video / brightness / sounds used... that's not from Bloober. So who knows how much different the game looks and sounds today in actual gameplay. I think when we see this in action, and play it... most fans (with an open mind) will be blown away. I WANT to be able to see more of the town / details, etc. There is so much they could do / improve compared to the original game while keeping all the Silent Hill'ness. The monster variants look amazing. I love it! So glad to see a "positive" and excited video for this game... as Bloober really deserves to hear more of that. Thanks for this video.

My only complaint with the trailer is that the gore looks terribly dated from a technical standpoint.
In 2008, Homecoming was able to pull off by giving enemies slashes, bullet wounds, and dismemberments. There is none of this in the trailer, even when a nurse takes a shotgun to the face point-blank. I'm not expecting Doom-levels of bloodbaths from a Silent Hill game, and this isn't exactly a dealbreaker for me, but again, it just looks horribly dated for a 2024 game. I originally suspected that they simply toned down the violence for the trailer, but there are also those claims/rumors that the footage in the trailer is actually from an earlier build of the game that was around a year old.
Either way, it's not a dealbreaker for me and I'm still excited for the remake!

Yes most remakes r bad or unnecessary but I am NOT narrow minded in fact that sounds like YOU. I played persona 3 which I had never gotten the opportunity and I know a lot about the original and I still enjoyed tf outta it. Dead space RE, RE2-4 remakes (yes even what 3 had to offer). I hadn’t even considered how scary it is that monsters can open doors-and especially intelligently using their hands to do so. It makes me think of Mr. X in RE2 remake. It’s scarier than the zombies in the RE remakes beating on doors until they smash open… imagine a SH2 nurse simply turning the knob and walking in and continuing its pursuit. So scary

Something I really hope is a design choice and not just something to make the trailer pretty is, I notice no targeting reticle when aiming. I always thought it was cool the early silent hills made it a point that the main characters weren’t super awesome crack shot action hero’s, they were normal people who probably wouldn’t be amazing with guns. And I think a lack of targeting reticle would lean into that. As a player you still know if you have the enemy roughly in the middle of the screen you’ll hit it, but you won’t be able to go through and head shot every enemy like you’re Leon or something.

@@thegamingmuseSH2 enhanced mod wasn't made with a copy of the source code. Hire the team behind it, contract another team who know how to reverse engineering (like the nightdive team) and it can largely be done. The "source code is lost" excuse isn't a valid one now.
Hell, Mario 64, Perfect Dark, Ocarina of Time, Jak 1 have been ported to pc without reusing a single line of the original source code. And there is a ton of decompiled projects like theses one, made without a corporation providing funding for them.

Really hoping it ends up being great, my interest in going into the series happened to be around when they revealed the remake so this’ll be my first time playing. I’m hoping you can give a consensus/review once it’s out to say whether it’s “worth playing for first timers/fans of the original” or “just serviceable, kinda whatever” or a “don’t bother”. Glad to see another video of yours though, and hope you’re well in health!

My gut feeling is that the studio had no idea that the footage they gave Konami was going to be compiled into a “combat trailer”. And then, once it was released, suddenly every fan and their human headed dog creature confirmation biased that suddenly Silent Hill 2 was becoming combat oriented. I’m hoping that the outcry from the studio after the backlash was: “we aren’t really focussing on doing ANYTHING with the combat system except putting one into place as it is needed. No particular thought or emphasis. No revolutionary reimagining or rehashing. The gasps at James vaulting over cover are overblown because EVERY combat system has some kind of cover and vaulting mechanic. The backpedalling at the studio was caused because suddenly the focus was on something they saw, rightly, as a secondary system in a game where combat was only remarkable in either being frustrating or goofy. It would be like if Tears of the Kingdom released the “Fishing Trailer” and suddenly everyone started screaming that you had to defeat Ganandorf with a fishing rod! Imagine! 😅

I'm so happy you shared your take on the combat trailer with us. I just couldn't believe that the overwhelming majority is so incredibly negative about it and nitpicking on each detail. I wholeheartedly share your view, and I'm also super excited. I don't mind if it's a disappointment in the end. I'm also confused about what people mean by the original not hinting at the end as much. I recently re-played it with my boyfriend who is not interested in horror games (I can't play horror games alone) and he figured the end out probably before I reached halfway into the game, just by listening to the conversations James had up until that point. My younger and more innocent self probably never picked up on these hints, if I first played it as an adult, who knows how I'd experience it.

AND you also had to mash a button to break free from monsters in the OG too....I mean come on it takes 2 hours of gameplay to see this. God I hate mainstream youtubers for shitting on a game they know NOTHING about.

What most concerns me about SH2RE is how the camera affects the indoor environment design. They were made gigantic to compensate for the camera and the combat. The areas are meant to be claustrophobic in the games, and is part of where the horror comes from.
Also, the music in this video is horrible. The mixing is too loud against your voice and it just doesn't fit the subject and tone of speaking at all. This isn't a rave.
8:24 thank god they're TRYING to fix the face. All these western remakes of japanese games (Bluepoint's two games) have fucked up faces. Always.

The Trailer shown at the State of Play was probably material from early 2023. We know that because we also know that The Short Message was slated to release after the Silent Hill Transmission in October 2022. Only Konami knows what they are doing here but the game is probably finished for quite some time. They are holding it back on purpose to release it with or in range with at least another Silent Hill project. Bloober Team has no control over anything regarding marketing. I do think they wanna proof themselves that they can also do real action instead of chase sequences. But we have to wait and see. The Trailer unfortunately shows the game in a very bad light when it comes to the action. It looks like some janky PlayStation 3 game with button prompts and overall Quick Time Events and a completele emersion breaker: The green blood splatter on the screen. I can see why people are concerned here. Fighting in the older games was always avoidable with the exception of bosses. But the Remake looks like that you have to fight your way through. I can only hope that if this really was an old build, the game is more refiined now. We know that the game looks quiet impressive judging by the short clips Konami and Sony uploaded after the State of Play. This is what I don't get: Why showing a Trailer that was planned to release way back? Is Konami really that incompetent? It's baffling.

But…unfortunately the shape of every characters MOUTH is just off putting. Its so bothersome for me that I can’t help but make fun of it especially when the camera zooms in on their face during cutscenes. My other probs with the original is that you have to bring up the map if you don’t want to get lost and end up walking for so long. It gets insanely repetitive. I don’t know really I don’t think any reliable company/studio could screw this up unless its konami and I know how they unashamedly ruined mgsv by pressuring the creative team behind the series. Disagree, I think the behind the shoulder camera will risk taking away some of the dread. Restrictive camera angles made it more scary entering rooms the were occupied by monsters cause you couldn't really get a good look at them, and things you can't see are more scary than anything else.
If they do more actiony combat angles they hopefully take notes from Dead Space and Doom 3.
Those games did that excellent, with having a controlled camera but still clunky to turn the character and very dark.

RE2 Remake is a good enough basis for combat in a Silent Hill game. An over the shoulder camera works just fine for horror as long as the combat something that impedes it. A slow to be accurate reticle and stiff movement speed penalty when aiming is enough to sell James being a disempowered protagonist. What worries me most is the combat being too fluid and easy to where it becomes the skeleton key for all problems.
