    I feel such shame about my teeth I would honestly trade an arm for a healthy mouth and nice teeth. I figure I could work around the missing arm but I know that my bad teeth are going to kill me, either from just the emotional daily stress or the infection or gum disease heart disease. I wish that banks would have a dental loan program or some way to help us with bad teeth and gums to keep us alive.

      Me too biggest regret of my life. Didn't seen need one filling until age 26. And went to a rogue dentist that said I needed 4 crowns despite never having had toothache he drilled them down to spikey points and then when I was literally 15 minutes late for an appointment despite ringing and telling them he said he wouldn't fit my crowns unless I paid him. Despite it supposedly been free on the nhs . usually he would ALWAYS be late whenever I attended appointments. One time I had to wait 3 hours despite having an appointment because his "golf game" took longer than he expected. I was then left with my teeth left like that and , £3500 worth of crowns that the nhs paid for that only fit me that he was paid for and he wouldn't fit them or give them to me for another dentist to fit. He also told my dad that he needed 3 fillings he said he'd come back another day saying he couldn't afford it. 17 years later my dads never had those fillings and his teeth are in perfect condition. He was doing work that the nhs was paying for that didn't need doing. Thank goodness he's left the country and can no longer practice dentistry in the uk.

      Yes, many financial program to help people with dental problem, it not difficult to get it. Jut make appointment with dental clinic, they give you form to fill and get loan you need. You pay little amount per months. It no difficult. Many dentist make free consultation. Act in your behalf, money show up for you to pay. More you take care of yourself, more your self care for you. I had dental implants in my late 30a and they were great for six years - until my body rejected them and they got loose. This was 35 years ago and implants were new and totally different than todays. They looked like a little round funnels with holes in them, which the bone was suppose to grow through the holes and make them stronger. When my body rejected them and they were really loose, I had to have them taken out. Much of my bone had grown through them so I lost so much bone I was told I could never have implants again. I've had dentures since and the top ones fit well and are not a big problem but the bottom ones are a nightmare! Part of my gum is totally flat and the teeth just sit on it because there's very little bone to adhere to, and they continue to shrink! To plant bone for implants would be outrageously expensive and no guarantee that I wouldn't reject those too. If you have good teeth, take care of them. If you're young enough and can afford to preserve them, do it because the older you get, the harder it gets!

      😔😔😔 Sometimes it’s just too late. My parents lost their teeth when they were really young and yet they never helped me with dental hygiene when I was younger. Very tragic. And today I suffer so much and spend so much money to salvage the situation. They wear dentures for years. I am finding out more on dental implants.

    I think the reason people want individual implants vs few ones and a bridge is that they don't like the fake gum, especially when laughing when you can see the line between real gum and the plastic one, But as you explained individual implants are not always the best way to go.

    • @Ladynipchick2
      @Ladynipchick2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Can you always see the line? I was under the impression that you usually don't see it. Have a friend she was born without enamel the protection for teeth she brushed flossed went the dentist an was in pain alot until she had to have them all pulled at 30yrs old.She has dentures now.I lost teeth because my dog accidentally head butted me an knocked out my teeth.Teeth should not be a luxury it saves your jaw bone having this done over dentures.Its more natural its litterly a prosthetic.So a person can eat not feel pretty eat.When foods not chewed well it doesn't absorb the nutrients into the body it more than cosmetic.They treat a dentist like a high paid hair dresser no joke.But there doctors an not being affordable cost lives not everyone is eligible for grant or assistance or has the credit too afford it there too rich for help an too poor to pay for it.Most people live pay check.Dental insurance is crazy some places don't offer any insurance policy.When they do its the bare basic clean an check an that's all you get.If it offers anything above that your lucky.Thats the same insurance that you'd put your kid on.Wow cleanings they best not ever get a chiped tooth any cavitys.They happen all the time popcorn cornal broken tooth rough housing with there friends there goes a tooth.

I would ask to see a few cases they have done, look at the temporary teeth and the final ones to see the final aesthetic result. I always think it's worth going with someone fairly local for this, in case there is an issue during treatment- like temporarily teeth chipping off.

The bridge is flossable with things like super-floss (Oral-B) or tepe brushes. Sometimes I recommend patients use a waterpick on the lowest setting as well, but this isn't as good as flossing under the bridge.

    Question for Dr. Sehmi- I've seen conflicting opinions about full set of individual implants vs 6 on 1. I heard another Dentist say individual implants give you the best result and does not effect your speech like from the bulkiness of faux gum on 6 on 1. Also, if you don't have bite pressure distributed evenly on teeth, won't that cause even more bone loss under the teeth that do not have the screw? Would it be better to have 8 implants on upper and lower 1 & 2 molars combined with a 4 on 1? Making a decision on which is best way to go is very confusing. Are there reviews on the different products and materials that are made for the bridges and implants? I'm in the US, so products available may vary from the UK. Any input would be appreciated.

    Dr this is the question I have been wanting to ask and I think you have answered it well, thank you!
    I do have a new question though now, having 4 or 6 implants then as opposed to a full mouth of seperate implants how does this affect bone loss? As in if I am having all my top teeth removed due to decay etc, will the 4/6 implants support the bone enough so my face doesn’t start to sag? Surely the gums will shrink where an implant has been placed and I’ve now no teeth?

      Hey Jordan I have the same questions. Have you made any decisions yet as to what you are going to do? I was wanting four on one but i question about the bone loss with only four implants for whole arch. I just saw that the 3 on 6 seems good but need further research. I guess the more implants the better it is to avoid bone loss. Also, you can also do bone grafting if you don’t have enough bone for implants. Like use the extracted teeth or synthetic material or even animal bone.

    Hello DR Gurs, i had implants and zirconium arches cemented. if i have problems in future how difficult is it to remove the cemented bond. i am not worried about damage to zirconium arch as would ask to remake them if need be. assume the cement is permanent and arch is 100% zirconim. i have read about various devices, ultrasound, but might damage implant, drill small holes to implant and use wamkey, have heard of dentists using alot of diamond drill burrs to remove as it is so hard a material. is it common issue and what are your thoughts. if i was doing again i would specifically request screw retained. cleaning is a concern and screw retained would allow removal once a year for thorough clean.

    What are the chances of getting cadaver bone grafted to replace missing bone if you've lost teeth around 10 years ago? Is it possible to get implants without bone grafts at all? (Yuck)

    • @vincentrizzi

      I'm most cases where we do a full set of teeth, we normally try to avoid any grafting (by angling the position of the implants and avoiding sinuses and nerves). If we do need to graft, there are lots of materials that are used, cadaver being one of them.

    1st question
    After first having implants do I wear my current full temporary dentures if so for how long? After that are the snap in dentures the final set of dentures I will receive.
    2nd question How long should I wait after extractions before implants and then after implants before snap in denture.
    Hope this makes sense.

    • @drgurssehmi
      @drgurssehmi  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Kay, a lot depends on your individual plan, in some cases it's possible to remove the bad teeth, place implants and connect them to clip in denture on the same day. This is called immediate loading. You could just have the implants placed on the day of taking the teeth out, this is called immediate placement- and not connect them to the denture. If you just have the teeth out, you should wait 2-3 months before placing implants, and if you are not loading straight away, wait 4 months in the upper jaw to load them. I hope this makes sense!

    • @kaymoyse4890
      @kaymoyse4890 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dr Gurs Sehmi Thank you. My dentist didn’t want to do implants straight away as wanted gums to heal first for 6 months. I’m trying to get different opinions as I cannot cope with my ridiculous loose lower immediate denture which won’t even stay in with glue and cannot put up with this for 6months. Upper is fine. My job entails face to face consultations and teaching and dancing on stage. I am 63.

    • @drgurssehmi
      @drgurssehmi  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I recently started to do locator treatment for patients, and connect the implants to the denture on the same day. There is a risk that the implants don't integrate, but it's been successful in all the cases I've done so far, and usually the risk of replacing an implant is not to bad compared to having to cope with the loose denture! (Also, I don't charge anything if we need to replace an implant). Your dentist is being cautious, which means he or she has your well-being as a priority, there are just several ways to approach the problem.

      I had 23 beautiful porcelain crowns put on my teeth when I was 29 (by choice, cosmetic - costed me $13,000). Now at age 49 I come to find out my own saliva is killing my teeth under the crowns. Within the past 24 months, I've had several teeth shatter under the crowns. I'm so upset, I cried in the dentist chair when they explained this all to me. I've had 7 teeth extracted so far. I can't smile or speak without wearing a plastic thing in my mouth with fake teeth now so people don't notice. It's devastating! To replace is so expensive - $50,000. I have fear too, it sucks! Hi. I have just had full extractions and immediate dentures in readiness for implants. My dentist says I have to wait 4-6 months to allow healing,then he can do 2 implants on lower and four on the top, wear my immediate denture again for another 4-6 months before getting snap in dentures. Will the new dentures move at all when eating and do the implants eventually become loose from keep having to remove them for cleaning. Many thanks

      Sounds a bit weird to me.. normally there is no reason not to put the implants in place immediately after extracting the no longer viable teeth.. off course after placing implants there has to be a 3 to 6 month healing period for.the implants to heal.. maybe you've had a serious gum probl ?

    • @drgurssehmi

      So many dentists are more comfortable doing it like this. The final upper should be very stable and require a lot of effort to remove. With the lower, as there are only 2 implants, it will be very stable, but there may be some rocking. Often is better to have 4. You may be able to add more at a later date if needed
