This movie is incredible, if you can stomach certain scenes it really is a great film. It’s a prime example of how gore doesn’t have to define the film, as well as music isn’t necessary, if anything it’s much more easy to build the tension without music, Beyond impressed!
Ben Connor exactly !!! It’s just raw. No bumpy music, no fancy flips, no over the top action. Just a few men walking in the West to reach the evil tribe and rescue the women. Let’s not forget the simple, yet amusing dialogue. This movie is awesome.
This movie was completly underrated. I think the brutality and violence of it turned off most critics and people. Shame, because as you wrote it if you can stomach certains scenes, it's just an amazingly crafted movie with excelent acting.
Looking back at this comment I'm wondering why it got so many likes and what I even meant by it. I'm thinking it wasnt a reference to all the pain the deputy endures later in the movie, but probably more about how if they had KOed him, he wouldn't have shown up to save them in the end.
What really makes this movie a gem is it takes the time and effort to be a great believable western first. It would have been too easy for a lesser director to play up the horror aspect and let the western aspect be an afterthought or too cheesy. The care they put into doing the western aspects and world building right, then adding the horror, was a master stroke.
Such an underrated movie, I’m surprised it didn’t get more attention, it’s a great thriller, great suspenseful story line, some great creepy horror, brutal scenes. Intense great movie, great actors n all we hear about is fucking comic book movies
I did not understand this. They’re talking about removing the leg. They give him the opium. Then he wakes up and the leg still there. So, what they actually did?
I think this is why it's mostly unknown to the masses. It was one of the most hardcore movies I ever watched violence-wise. Shame, because it's stil an excellent film.
I love how they make you think the guy in the white is going to end up being a complete kill crazy psycho , but ends up being very honorable and even gives his life to help them. He even taunts Patrick Wilisons character into hitting him so he’ll fall.
Kurt Russel had said if he hadn't been starring in The Hateful 8 then he would have shaved his beard but i think his beard here adds a deal of civility and longevity. Like he's been such a competent Sherriff that he could live as long as he had.
It was this movie which helped me to see what had been holding me back all these years. I wasn't enough like Kurt Russell specifically his character in this film which I assume is closest to the real life Kurt Russell.

Hard to believe that a movie that had Kurt Russell, Richard Jenkins, Patrick Wilson and others that Matthew Fox stole the show but he did.
