In this video, we'll walk you through the story of how Varg Vikernes, Euronymous and Bard Faust burnt down the Holmenkollen Chapel.
The original chapel from 1903 was destroyed by arson in 1992.
The new chapel was completed in 1996.
This is one of the many stories in Norwegian black metal history, and it's sure to fascinate anyone interested in metal music or cults.

The Church itself has kind of a black metal vibe. I like it.
Back in those days in Mexico the story was well known. What surprise me the most is the fact of internet wasn’t out there just yet.

Damn, this takes me back. Went to Oslo for a few days and I spent entire evening roaming the area around the church and further in the forest. Such a stunning view you get from there.
I loved this vid. The dude choking on his sandwich over his snow sand castle was hilarious. Also vengeance sounds great!
I like his material, sounds bit like dissection to me and thats huge plus.

That church is stunning and I am not one for churches. Also , the dude at the end with the snow statue babbling was priceless. Reminds me of good ol Chicago downtown taking the blue line into the city and seeing all the interesting people on the platforms 🤣 . It's very much the same

I remember hearing about the church burning on the radio in England way before I even knew what black metal was. It is a truly impressive building and I think Norway has some of the best looking churches in the world. I've always wanted to visit Norway, I live in Scotland now and now see that Glasgow and Oslo look very similar.

My son use to sing in a childrens choir in Holmenkollen kapell. Never thought of that Varg burnt that thing down 30 years ago.

Oh man, I went to Oslo this Summer to see the Satyricon exhibition at the Munch museum, and later to go buy "supplies" (hehe) at Helvete, now you made me miss Norway

@@weirdowilliams3723 even as a standalone movie some bits are just too cheesy , but the whole cartoonisation of Varg ruins what could have been a great biopic of Mayhem. instead they used the story of Mayhem and Euronymous to paint Varg as a clown, which seems to be the real force behind that movie being made..... they added so much stupid sh!t like about Dead and they left out the disasterous Eastern Europe tour, that could be a movie in itself it was so bad.
@@DVDFRMN Yeah. The main motivation was always to attack Varg and little else. I suspect that was the main driving force behind funding as well. Anyone can think whatever they want about Varg, but even fans who may not even like him could see what the intentions were, and that politics mattered more than actually making the movie that we all deserve.
@@madawcofarreat2348 well said. i only discovered the whole story from this movie a few months ago but looking at the timeline of when they killed Varg's TH-cam, i think they saw how popular he was on TH-cam, all the comments of supporters, and that his youtube had shown us he was a decent guy who got paranoid and made a mistake when he was 19. Varg may be eccentric but his kids have a way better childhood than 99% and will be more prepared for the world than 99% of kids who are being dumbed down or sent insane in schools. Varg is a nationalist who despite huge setbacks (15 years in prison) , has success in music and lives in his own house on his own land surrounded by his loving Family...... and they HATE that.
@@LightningCube7 they used a lot of real locations and the house where the band rehearsed looked right , they did build an accurate copy of the church and burn it, but from interviews with the actual people from the many documentaries and others, they story was twisted, i think deliberately to make Varg look clownish..... i know they tried to make the movie years ago but i think it got hijacked by interests that sought to do a number on Varg..... Snorre of 'Thorns' was influential on the music being made that became 'Black Metal' but they movie painted him as almost r£tarded and didn't show him involved in music at all.

Man, I'm massively late in finding these guys.
Over the past couple of days I have watched all your Mayhem your videos, various other documentaries on TH-cam and the Lords Of Chaos movie.
I have only ever really had a passing interest in black metal, but these guys are a band that I would definitely have loved when I was younger, and I definitely dig a few of their songs now.
