Hi there. Yeah set it statically first, that means having the engine at the right position but not turning. 8 degrees before TDC I think.... then with the ignition switched on use q test light bulb earthed at the distributor. So as you roative the distributor back and forth by hand the light bulb switches on and off. With the engine in the right position set the distributor to the point where the bulb switches on and tighten it down that should have it pretty close
