    Good God, I was tired of searching for information on this detector. After "Duck Duck Go" led me to your door, I not only found all the info I needed to make a buying decision, I found someone that I can respect and someone whom I truly enjoyed listening to. I found your review insightful, technically accurate and VERY helpful. I go from here to Amazon to make a purchase based on your review. I only wish I could actually come Treasure Hunting with you... Teaser. [Loved the tag on your review by the way, I know what your cat was saying... LOL]

    Hello Folks and Thank you Tom for your vid.
    Now I am going to have to warn all new and old detectorist about ANY PI Detector that are like this one. I have purchased two of them. First one died not because I was not careful ( making sure the cap is tightened well BEFORE entering the water) but because the motor inside and on top of the pc board is way to strong for the "U" shaped vibrating piece. So what occurs is that you have already used it and the motor for the vibrator piece stops buzzing. Now you are only looking at the LED light flashing when you detect a piece of metal.
    So what do you do. I am going to explain it here.
    1. Take out battery 2. Looking into the battery compartment you will see a black and a red wire attached to the positive and negative clip that holds the 9 volt battery. Looking past the wires you will see a piece of rubber black in color. 3. Gently pull out the black rubber until it is out side of the pvc. 4. When you have pulled out the black rubber on the other side of the black rubber is the pc board. On top of the pc board you will see the Vibrating motor and the "U" shaped vibrator. 5. On this pc board with the motor and U shape, you will have to remove the solder that the motor has on the legs, and then re solder the legs. 6. Apply Hot glue to ONLY the motor, NOT the "U" Shape vibrator. 7. Do not place the pc board back into the pvc pipe yet until you have re placed the battery and stand it up so that it will turn on. 8. Test the unit by placing anything metal near it and look at the motor to see if it is now vibrating left to right. If it is add more hot glue wait until dry and test again.9. Once you test and don't see the motor moving from left to right then reinsert the wires, pc board the rest of the wires, but leave out the clip for the battery. 10. Add the rubber back into the the pipe until it rest at the small protruding pvc ring at the bottom. The rubber has a cut in it so that your black and red wire will be secure so that you don't pull it off the pc board, so make sure that the wires are in the slice on the black rubber that has been pushed back in place. 11. Insert battery and have fun. Please send these instructions to others as if you know of someone that has one of these style units. The motor is too fast for the U shape and trembles the soldered feet off the board of the motor and that is why the vibration stops. I now will be buying my third. The first two worked great. First one died because I did not know about the soldering bit. So I used it with only LED light. Then gave it away. Second I purchased and found out about the vibration of the motor and solder loosening so I got it fixed and then one day got to excited (it happens) and did not tighten the cap by hand tighten only spec. Water got in it and good by. Have fun.

      @TomPapworth  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Euchan - Yep, the iKing 750 works in salt water with no issues. I often take mine diving at the beach and in salt water estuaries (check out some of my other videos). The device is depth-rated for around 30metres (100 feet). I’ve used mine at 20metres and had no problems or leaks. Great to hear that you’re interested in getting one for yourself - They’re an awesome device and I highly recommend them. Hey bro. There is a large variance in prices on eBay. Which suppliers are legit versus knockoffs?

    • @TomPapworth
      @TomPapworth  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Attila the Humble - Hey mate! Great question. It took me a while to get my head around the marketing of this product, and to be honest it’s still a little confusing. The truth of the matter is that iKing 750 is a pretty entry level metal detector with a very generic design and build - If you do your research you’ll find a variety of brands, such as KKMoon and Vibra, who have tried to lay claim to the product by putting their brand name on it, but essentially they are all the same device. My suggestion would be to not get caught up in thinking that you’re getting a better product for a higher price (I have no doubt they are all made in the same factory). I opted to buy one of the cheaper ones on eBay and it works just as well as the one that my friend bought from a shop for nearly twice the price. I hope this helps - Let me know if you have any other questions ✌🏼

    Hi Tom, I just ordered one. I am however a bit nervous about all the posts I have seen online about the Pl-iKing 750 arriving broken or breaking shortly after arrival. It looks like most of the trouble stems from leakage. I plan to hook up a small airbrush compressor to mine when it arrives charge it to about 3 atm and then check the joints with dishwashing soap just to make sure the seals are good. So, how well is yours holding up? Does it still work?

      Hey mate,
      My iKing is still going strong. Have used it countless times without any leaks, but I’m always mindful of checking the end plug to ensure it’s properly attached. I have a few mates that now have these detectors and none of them have reported any leakage problems. Nevertheless, I’m sure there are a few lemons that make it out of the factory - So an initial look over wouldn’t hurt. Enjoy your new detector - I’m confident you’ll be impressed with the functionality of this relatively cheap device. Also, yes - I’ve seen that signal hack before. I’m keen to test it out, but given that I mainly use mine for scuba diving, I don’t particularly see the need to boost the detection strength. Thanks for the comment - Keep me updated with how yours goes ✌🏼

    • @BScottGould
      @BScottGould 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TomPapworth Hi Tom. Well, the PI-iKing arrived today. I heated a champagne cork in the microwave, drilled a hole down the middle and hot-glued a nipple from my airbrush compressor into it. It fits perfectly into the battery chamber. I secured the cork and charged the inside to 2 bar (28psi for the yanks) and brushed the connections down with washing up liquid. It's all airtight!
      Looking at the rubber bung seal, That really needs improvement. It is a disaster waiting to happen. I have a plan to improve it and will film it all and post it after the weekend.

    hey my metal detecter just stop vibrating and i didnt even used it should i try another battery or...
    what should i do?

    • @BScottGould
      @BScottGould 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mayorka, inside the battery compartment is a plastic separator. It can be pulled out. Behind that is a circuit board . In the middle of the board in a small motor just a few mm wide and maybe 2 cm long. It is attached to the board with hot glue. If the glue comes loose, the motor breaks the moves and the soldering breaks. You can remount the motor with hot glue and solder the wires back (if the connection points are still ok) or replace the motor. ae01.alicdn.com/kf/HTB1tThVrA9WBuNjSspeq6yz5VXaG.jpg

      No No. Dont do that. I am not 100% sure. I saw the repair being done on a youtube video. Sady it was in Russian (which I don't speak) and he may have said how to remove it but I am not sure. It appears to be just a plastic cup that is simply pushed into place. I will see if I can find the video and post a link.

      Thanks for the feedback 😁 Finding appropriate royalty-free music is always tricky. I personally like the track, but I can understand how it might not be everyone’s taste - I hope you got something from the video regardless.

      And that is one man's opinion... I personally thought the music was fitting a sense of "Exploration"... LOL @@TomPapworth

      While I wouldn't say the depth range is impressive, I do think it's satisfactory in relation to the nature of this device. I think it is important to remember that this is a relatively cheap, compact and basic detector that is completely submergible - As a scuba diver, it definitely ticks the boxes for my shallow-level treasure hunting and I would have no hesitation in recommending it to others. Thanks for watching - I appreciate your comment.
