I'm an older gamer. Started as a kid in the 70's with a Mark III my dad had bought. I’m team physical media for everything. I have every console I’ve owned from the Atari 2600 to a PS4, around 1,500 DVDs and BRs, 600 albums on CD, and about 200 audiobooks. What I’ve done is ripped my entire media library and put it on a private media server. Haven’t had a subscription for a streaming service in years now. Doesn’t take up space in the house, don’t need to have 5 consoles hooked up to play my games, don’t have to pay exorbitant prices for games to resellers, plus rom hacks have great quality of life improvements for lots of games.
I get the idea of physical vs digital. Sure digital is convenient, but with games being delisted, digital storefronts closing and even recent news about digital items you have in your library being removed for rights or other reasons. When the PS3/PSVita/PSP storefronts were closing (even though at that time the PSP store was really dead anyway), it started my need to buy more physical media that I haven’t done in a very long time. Then the eShop closes for the Wii U/3DS which accelerated my purchasing of physical games. As it shows, my wife and I are physical media consumers if we can get it that way otherwise buying digital if it is only there is fine (yet I would rather buy that on a sale) since there are good digital only games to play like Gunman Clive and many others I cannot name.
I'm pro physical as well, but I also realized that some games are just meant to be online for multi-player reasons. I'm glad as kid I realized that early on. The only game I bought digitally on a console was Super Mario Bro's on the OG Wii. I then transitioned to pc for Blizzard games & other MMORPG's and around that time from 2010-16 the discs became useless. For multi-player games it makes sense for it to be 100% digital. My problem with modern gaming is when they take what is essentially a single player game experience and require you to be online just to play it. It's when they make single player games that require always online or an account that is the main problem. Diablo 3 - required online connectivity just to play - on launch nothing, but log in errors. Games like Diablo 4 is mainly a solo experience, but it can only be played with others online & it requires you to create & connect your blizzard account to it just to log in and be able to play. Simcity 2013 when it released... was made to encourage an multi-player experience, but on launch log in errors. If you wanted to play single player - nope you need to be online. While I can appreciate them doing something new to innovate the franchise. The part they fucked up with not allowing us to play offline for single player & not giving us larger city map sizes. It took them 6 months to give us an offline mode after community backlash. If they made games 100% without online features people would be more likely buy them physically. If you look at the most mainstream popular games of today it's Call of Duty, Fornite, League of Legends, Minecraft, Pub G, Valorant, Roblox, Counter-stike: GO Games like Forza 4 is a single player experience, but you need to sub if you want to play online or if you want to buy any extra content it's only available online. They are all multi-player experiences that require online connectivity. Cyberpunk 2077 & Sims 4 though are single player experiences as well, but to get the full experience you need to buy the dlc which is digital only. They don't require an internet connection, but if you want to buy something for new content you need to do it online. I still support physical media when given the opportunity to own it physically. Whether it be 4k movies or a console game that doesn't require online connection. Which leads me to only buying physical games for my switch even if they're available for pc.
Team Physical. Easily. I grew up in the NES and SNES era. The funny thing is that my NES and SNES games still work and are still just as fun. What I worry about with digital is that in 25-30 years, all the games that are digital only, or part of the “all digital future” won’t even be playable because the servers are gone, or the store is closed down. Additionally, I don’t like where the digital future leads: More games via subscriptions (even single player games), pay per hour gaming (started being talked about by some gaming execs), and we the consumers having no ownership over what we purchase. Keep buying physical, y’all. Keep gaming as we know it and knew it alive.
Physical Media is so so important, recently after Crunchyroll brought FUNimation they closing down the FUNimation app and nuking any digital copies of Anime brought on that app meaning various english dubs and legal copies of the japanese dub are going to vanish into the void because of no Physical Release, also from what I heard there is also distributers who are being asked to destroy any physical FUNimation media too meaning a lot of the Physical Releases are being destroyed, this is just a constant amongst apps losing stuff forever and forcing people to Pirate media, PC was the first to start this trend when it went all digital and now it's become an absolute nightmare through Music, TV/Film and Games, we need to urgently U-Turn on an all digital future otherwise this will keep happening
...and Digital Fanboys still refuse to see the truth in that. For those that say "Its cheaper and convenient", it's really not since without Physical, they are free to RAISE PRICES as they see fit, also convenience as a backlash of them taking their purchases. Look at what happened with the PlayStation and the WB Discovery fiasco. All that money wasted to get Digital and they just shut it all down, even for re-downloading them, all because the two companies couldn't come to an agreement. They have no idea what they are in for.
I'm team physical media 99% of the time. The only time I'm NOT team physical media is if the Switch eShop has a great deal on a game, but I refuse to spend over $20-$25 on a digital game.
I will always prefer physical media. I started my gaming journey with the Attari system, PS2,Sega system, Xbox 360, psportable, Xbox One and now VR meta 2.
Born in 1971 it's going to take a lot for me to adjust to the 21st century. I'm physical till the end. If it all goes digital it does it without me. If 20th century music didn't exist I probably wouldn't listen to anything at all. The industries hit their peaks for me between 1960 and 2005.
Hi from the uK, love your videos! im 38 this year and love watching your videos for the nostalgia. i started gaming on the Spectrum sinclair 128k (where the game on tape takes about 1hr to load then could crash haha) been fortunate to have owned pretty much every console growing up, up to current gen. i was a manager at a UK store called Gamestation (owned originally by Blockbuster) for many years and loved it. i love the energy all you awesome people have at your store! reminds me of the good old days haha so many consoles and game si wish i kept instea dof selling them as a kid. 1 item i miss and cannot find anywhere was a handheld lcd console "narc" i would love to have that again one day. i wish one day to come visit you guys with the mrs n have a nice chat. Stay Awesome, Stay YOU! Adlad
Both. I collect certain games or series. Mostly Mortal Kombat and Resident Evil. But I also have a few other physical games that I want to keep handy. But, for preservation, convenience purposes and so im not hoarding games I will never get off my butt and put in a console. I use Everdrives and my Steam Deck. That leads me to my next bit. I mostly play my modern games on Deck.
The digital download is not worth buying. 1' it's not worth anything 2' if someone steals your account then you lost everything you payed for so in reality it's not 🚫 worth it in the long run period.
Physical media and theres still a market for it I buy a lot of movies on blu ray and one thing ive noticed is since some stores like Best Buy and target having very little movies they sell out at other stores the day the movie is released on blu ray the only bad thing when it comes to games is if I want a game and its $70 at gamestop and $45-50 on the Playstation store I do end up buying it off there and with the new Playstation rewards on the app I do end up getting $20 back a lot with those points
Physical media is definitely the way to go for this reason. The stranglehold digital media will take with the dwindling of physical is going to be massive. I hope there’s a resurgence and it gains traction again.
Truthfully I just stopped caring about physical media. I collected a lot and kinda got outta it but still have some of my collection. I'm digital now. It's easier.
I wouldn't say that. It's mainly because people rely too heavily on digital, so when stores close or games get removed only then will that get people to care about the physical game
I love having physical games but nowadays especially on Xbox and Playstation alot of disc are basically just keys to allow a huge download to occur to play the game. In the future will these discs even be playable I wonder.
Team physical media for me. I started gaming at 3, with the NES. Then got a couple GBA systems. Then my first big console was the PlayStation 1. Moved on up to ps3. And now I just collect and play a little bit of everything. I like to have the physical copy in my hands cause if your system ever screws up or if someone hacks your account, you could lose your games or full account. If you have the disc or cartridge, you can play it whenever you want, and never lose it unless you sell it.
Digital take less place when you have no room , but something special when you put the disc in so i would have to be 50/50 on this one 😂 Love the vids as always cheer from Quebec 😀
Physical games are my thing. There is something about actually holding and inserting the game into the console. Also, looking at my game collection is awesome.
Yeah I have two games I just downloaded from my Xbox. Cheaper too than physical games. I personally don’t care if I have a physical copy of a game. Saves shelf space & is cheaper.
Since I normally play on PC, I like digital. It's been all digital on PC for over a decade and we are fine. No one in the PC world misses 5+ cds to install a game plus having a cd key to keep around. I have had far more issues with scratched CD's and the CD keys associated with games over the years than I have ever lost access to games via Steam/EA/Ubisoft/GOG.
I don't mind the sound, but man I hate when it sounds like it's gonna shred the disc apart into tiny piece. lol I've gotten so use to my pc though that anytime I watch a 4k movie in my console it irritates me when the console be louder than the damn movie.
When it comes to games. I'm team digital media. Movies, Music, and Books I still believe those should stay in physical media. I believe games should still come out in physical media, but every game will go OPP. I'm not really into spending extra money on OOP games, I'd rather emulate than have to spend hundreds more than MSRP to play a game. Now if its in print, I'll always buy what I can. My collection are a mix of both. But if I wanna go back, I'm not gonna miss paying a bill vs playing a retro game.
Hey Guys, not sure if this has been asked before, I am sure it has but couldn't find it, do you have an estore with overstock or your items in general? I would love to purchase some of the items you have but the trek from PA to Arkansas is a tad far.
Yo Rick I'm with you on the physical media, buuuut. Now I have games that are disc's that won't play because of an update being needed and I couldn't pay my internet bill. Uuuuughhh!!!
I've been collecting video games for over 30 years and now own about 20,000 games in my collection. I have a rule to never support digital games unless they are under $10. I don't think physical games will go away 100% but we might see less and less and physical will only be available through special online shops with limited quantities. The biggest killer is when Microsoft and Sony make their next gen system all digital and players will be forced to buy digital or don't play. (I think Nintendo will be the last to get rid of physical) If (or when) this happens I will be playing a lot less newer games. One day I might make the 4 hour drive to your store and go game hunting in Arkansas.
Whichever medium is prohibitively expensive, the one where widely available games are hundreds of dollars so if people want to play a retro game legally they have drop 3 digits on just the game, which is often more expensive than the console itself. There's just something about people hoarding thousands of units of media so no one can experience them, driving up the price to obscene levels that makes me happy to be a gamer. Remember, it's not about playing the games, it's about showing off to weirdos online how much you spent on them.
nice video, the Retrofest Arkansas sounds epic btw if you need any help with layout or poster design, video editing and i wold love to support you dudes
I am a both 🎉 teams kind of guy. I will usually start out digital and if I really like it or find it for a good price I will get it physical. I don’t worry to much if it will be around in the future but I understand if you are. What I miss is it’s a lot harder to buy ssome thing digital as a gift for someone. I will buying physical for someone because I know that they would love a particular game. that is some thing digital has taken away in my opinion
I would say I’m 95% physical media, as I’ll make exceptions like the megaman games on the Switch as that isn’t 100% physical on the switch. The only megaman games physical on switch are 11 and the zero/ZX collection. I do own certain games like Godhand on ps2 is awesome, plus the last clover studio game before Capcom shut them down. I still own various rpgs, and older games that you can’t even get digital now, unless you get a emulator and the Roms for it. I understand these companies don’t like pirated games, but various older consoles have hidden gems. One of my favorite psx games is Board Game: Top Shop, which is basically a board game about running shops, getting inventory to make money, taking over other shops to expand your store to get better items, and it’s actually really fun. Plus you can find games that were more arcade like on older systems, like One Piece Mansion that no one had ever heard of, but was published by Capcom.
I get the nostalgia for games and physical copies but game stores are going to be like blockbuster. I'd rather not leave the house and not deal with people. Hard to compete with convince and being cheaper to play.
Physical media only. I don't even pay for streaming services. If I want to play or watch something 5+ years from now, I have copy of whatever I want to play or watch that will work right away.
I'm 100% physical because I love owning my copies. People nowadays think digital is the way to go but now are lamenting because with all these mergers they are losing money that they invested into. Funimation merger with crunchyroll so digital goods that you paid for are no longer accessible.... Soon, games are gonna be pay to play with all these streaming services like ea play and ubisoft plus....

Used to be a physical media guy, Team Digital/Emulation all the way now. Doesn’t take up space in the house, don’t need to have 5 consoles hooked up to play my games, don’t have to pay exorbitant prices for games to resellers, plus rom hacks have great quality of life improvements for lots of games.
Anyone know what song is playing in the background at 3:46 please?
If you look at the most mainstream popular games of today it's Call of Duty, Fornite, League of Legends, Minecraft, Pub G, Valorant, Roblox, Counter-stike: GO
Games like Forza 4 is a single player experience, but you need to sub if you want to play online or if you want to buy any extra content it's only available online.
If you truly have a love for some form of media, make sure you have a physical copy
Physical media for sure! I'm also a big fan of being able to view and admire my collection
I think pirated sites have more passionate translations
...and Digital Fanboys still refuse to see the truth in that.
Still in physical since I love the feeling of opening up game. Also, I love collecting things.
How much of the store is a store and how much of it is just a museum?
Awesome video Rick! More games less exercise! Loose weight off camera we want just the good stuff! Love you man!
I bought The Line on digital for the Xbox series x years ago.
Born in 1971 it's going to take a lot for me to adjust to the 21st century. I'm physical till the end. If it all goes digital it does it without me. If 20th century music didn't exist I probably wouldn't listen to anything at all. The industries hit their peaks for me between 1960 and 2005.
Did not know Rick could throw a punch! Dayummmm
Physical media = trophy upon completion & a Physical representation of nostalgia/memories
Adlad
I very rarely digital download games, almost all my games are hard copies because I like owning physical versions if possible
Does anyone know what the mechanical voice says at the start of these videos?
A tip Rick because I love your content and sold so many TCG games. It’s quicker to price via Tcg player.
Truthfully I just stopped caring about physical media. I collected a lot and kinda got outta it but still have some of my collection. I'm digital now. It's easier.
Love the convention idea. Any chance of gettting I Fight Dragons to play?
Team Physical Media!
What do y'all sell Mario Kart GameCube for? It's stupid expensive everywhere I've seen it.
How can I purchase something if I'm in Texas. Is there a site?
Digital take less place when you have no room , but something special when you put the disc in so i would have to be 50/50 on this one 😂 Love the vids as always cheer from Quebec 😀
Physical games are my thing. There is something about actually holding and inserting the game into the console. Also, looking at my game collection is awesome.
Yeah I have two games I just downloaded from my Xbox. Cheaper too than physical games. I personally don’t care if I have a physical copy of a game. Saves shelf space & is cheaper.
Digital is the way to surely go and hope it keeps going that way.
Physical only because i can resell it when I'm done with the game or if it sucks.
love physical media. I love hearing the console disc drive sounds and console noises
I don't mind the sound, but man I hate when it sounds like it's gonna shred the disc apart into tiny piece. lol
I've gotten so use to my pc though that anytime I watch a 4k movie in my console it irritates me when the console be louder than the damn movie.
But if I wanna go back, I'm not gonna miss paying a bill vs playing a retro game.
physical media for the nostalgia an just for my well being i love collecting just gets a lil expensive sometimes
I swear that Owen Kid was in the ghastly grinner episode of Are you afraid of the dark? 😂
I have 2 ps2 slims and 1 ps2 fat boy edition and a bit over 150 games lmk
I'll give you $50 , that sound good bud?
Yea where you want me to ship it too
@@Kingivan384 🤣👍
1:29 is Rick learning when he says "subscribe" in a video and the person isn't, the subscribe button lights up lol
Only 9 months ago I got spec ops the line for 50p
If you have some old pcs lying around I can send you some how to's links to host your own website for the expo
Hey Guys, not sure if this has been asked before, I am sure it has but couldn't find it, do you have an estore with overstock or your items in general? I would love to purchase some of the items you have but the trek from PA to Arkansas is a tad far.
Rick ! We dealing with nearly a foot a snow over here today, so glad to come inside to a new video . Have a great week everyone
You live in Greenland? 😂
Wow. thankfully it missed me, where do you live?
Do you...
(1) Shovel
(2) Snow blow
(3) Plow
(4) Say f**k it, I'm not leaving the house until it melts away
Yo Rick
I'm with you on the physical media, buuuut.
Physical as much as possible. Mainly because I’m 53 so it’s a nostalgic kinda thing to hold the game with artwork on the box.
Physical media all the way I still like holding the books to read, seeing the movies or video games on the shelf
nice video, the Retrofest Arkansas sounds epic
btw if you need any help with layout or poster design, video editing
and i wold love to support you dudes
Sickest shirt I’ve ever laid eyes on goes to Rick
Hey team!, will you have that new atari stuff?
💥100% Physical Media, 1400+ physical games and growing!
Used to be physical media only but then the Steam Deck came out and changed my life forever lol
