Tim is a broken man. He survived a suicide attempt and a prolonged hospitalization (unrelated). He needs support and company...happy to see Gregg step up.
I really want on cinema to end. The amount of secondhand pain I get from this show kills me. I just want Tim Heidecker, and especially Greg to be at peace.
I wish this is how things would have stayed between Tim and Gregg. Together, their combined energies are unstoppable and could have taken over the film review industry in a way that no one has ever seen since the days of Robert Ebert. It's too bad that strange "Amato" family seems to have driven a wedge between Gregg and Time.
This episode genuinely surprised me, I don't think I've ever seen the On Cinema version of Tim display this much humanity and self reflection, I didn't watch the 10th Oscars special live but I can't wait to watch it and see if they continue this plot thread or is it just back to the old drunken rage shenanigans from Tim.
The way I see it, the tables are about to be turned, Gregg will be the host, while Tim will be the guest or co - host, but their respective personalities will remain the same.
I have to agree with you, in this year's Oscar Special and if there is another season for On Cinema, they're going to still disagree with each other on movies, but there will not be any more ridiculous or dangerous situations that Tim will place himself in, unless both he and Gregg find themselves in trouble over something together.
What I love about this universe is their characters are like both as delusional as you can possibly be, but totally different ways of handling it and personality types. They both know nothing and think they know everything, but arguably I think Gregg’s character is even sadder then Tim’s. Tim is like this manic abusive scumbag, and is the type of person who falls into every new trend and thinks it’s this life changing thing. Gregg only cares and talks about one thing, cinema. He doesn’t even acknowledge TV or music as valid art. But what makes the character so pathetic is he DOESNT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT MOVIES. All of his takes are wrong, his facts are always wrong and whenever there’s actual movie trivia on the golden age he’s supposed to know about he misses them all. It’s so sad it’s like this is his ENTIRE THING, all he has is telling himself he’s a critic and has the biggest movie collection (which is a lie even in this fake universe), and gives himself praise for breaking fake milestones like watching 1 movie everyday for 500 days or whatever. Which obviously plenty of people have already done 😂
When Gregg uses the 360 camera in s10e6 you can pan around and see his bedroom. In the corner is a crappy little 90s vcr tv surrounded by cereal bowls, trash, popcorn bags and dirty clothes. His vhs collection is in milk crates beside him. You can imagine him hunched over in his awful library chair alone at night watching Arthur 2 on a ten inch screen. Being that pathetic but also a completely oblivious narcissist makes him such a funny character
