  • I sold a Suzuki S40 running and the clutch went out two days later. This is a short story about doing what's right and making new friends along the way.

Decent human being alert... Sold the guy a bike, he raw dogs it and smokes the clutch(pretty sure he knew what he did), instead of telling him he had to deal with it on his own, he helps him fix it and teaches him repair and maintenance in the process. Strong Matthew McConaughey vibes. Great video bro.

Happened to me but it was a month after, Had the cylinder sleeve twist (RM125), found out the machine shop did a slip fit for the sleeve and not a press fit, i ended up taking the bike in and paid for a new cylinder, had him pay for the other parts and put it back together for him. ~ 5 months later i am still getting photos of the adventures he's having on it. cost me ~$400 from profit but i wanted to make sure it was right, sold the cylinder without sleeve on ebay and got a few $ back.

I told the guy it runs great, it always did when I had it, but it's seen lots of hard use and almost zero maintenance, and it might not last 15 minutes if you really get on it. He came back about a week later and said it lasted 20 minutes before the induction disk broke, and he wondered if I had any parts for it around. (I didn't)

With dirtbikes, I feel its 'buyer beware'. You can buy a bike in good faith and find a heap of things wrong, conversely, you can sell a perfectly running bike and it can break down a few hours later. I maintain the attitude that if you are buying 'used' then you are buying a pile of parts and it is impossible to measure and account for how much trouble-free riding you will get to your first major issue.

I just picked up a dr650 rode good on the first ride but in 4th and 5th I felt the clutch slip, it was a from a friend purchase, and let him take it out and he was saying it didn't do it for him, kinda up in the air about that at the moment. Goes to show even a friend can steer you wrong, he's going to help me put a new clutch in when I get one but the initial impression was slightly off. He's a friend that's more of a you can do it, but is willing to help.
