My switch L145 -30F, Great video confirmed what the numbers mean and I was able to resolve issue. Issue I had was end of heat cycle the blower was turning off too early. You are by far the best teacher/tech I've seen on here and your vids are outstanding. I was wondering if you knew any "real techs" in the hvac world in the Greensboro NC area. I have an old Williams furnace with heat strips and they keep blowing the fusible links which doesn't make sense that the limit switch doesn't cut them off before the links blow. Now my heat strips are staying on even when the heat is switched off and just run the fan. Nobody wants to actually work on these old units and keep trying to sell me a new one. Amazing video! Perfect remaining before the heating season. Thank you. The ones I've asked the supplier give me a replacement for the flame rollout switch. 100% agree on multiple topic you are mentioning. I bought two thermodiscs for my hot blast wood/coal furnace. Both of them don’t work right. On off on off every few minutes! Then maybe a half hour working right. Called the company. They said these are sensitive to drafts and may work better in time. I think they must be defective because I saw a website where people complain about the same problem. The old thermodisc worked perfectly for years until it wore out. The only thing I had to do to fit the thing into the cover, was I had to bend the prongs inward , to be straight rather than angled outward, because I couldn’t fit the cover over them.
Craig , great instructional video . I have a suggestion about maybe making videos on the different TXVs and replacement ??? Maybe explain the differences in txvs and how they function???
I have laid out the function design and troubleshooting of a txv in the book but have not done a video on them other than one or two older videos. Thanks for letting me know what you would like to see. It certainly would be something I would like to do in the future, thanks!
I have a friend with a thermopile gas boiler. The unit gets up to 225 degrees so he’s replacing the aquastat with a L4006A Honeywell . He showed me a picture of his pile and it has a black box with two. Stake-ins that go to a sensor that is taped to the thread well sensor of his aquastat. Explain this device and its function . He seems to think it’s an ECO safety??.
Thank you for this informative video! I'm now trying to fix my electric heater and I suppose that one of the thermal switches on it is broken. However I can't really test it because I'm not sure if it's normally open like the other switch. The part name (ksd302) is used for both NO and NC switches. I tried applying pressure and heated it with a lighter with no effect. So either it's normally closed and I didn't get enough heat or it's normally open but broken. Is there any other test I can do to know whether it's supposed to be normally closed or open?
My electric furnace diagram says that both heating element circuits go to the same limit switch (one). Is that possible? If so, what are these limit switches called?
Hi,i have a luxaire heat pump hl3b since a year the machine stops,i check your videos, when i put the machine at off it restart, since the summer getting hotter it stop offently.i check your video that it could be defrost control board,i check all the volltage and resistance i donT find any problem. After that yesterday it wa warm so i decide to start it without the panel,it ran from 78f to 74f and did not stop,i wander if there is a thermal device that stop,it.Has soon as istop it defrost control board is reset.thanks for your great videos.
While I was adjusting my gas valve with a manometer on a Goodman natural gas furnace when I was down to around 3.7 I noticed all all four burner's shut down. Can you tell me why?
Great video I have a question. I have a wall furance giving me trouble. I believe the trouble I'm having is with the limit safety switches the high heat switch was bad and now i want to replace the high and low limit switch just to make sure . these switches turn on & off the blower motor. the numbers of the switches are F135-1.5 R9V and the other is L180-3.5 V9V My question is the last three letters/numbers on it what do they mean are they important?
Hi, Great vid. I have a 5 prong thermal switch. Not 100% sure how to test. Whirlpool 307250 Thermostat. I get the two main prongs, but what reading should the 3 in the center be showing? My guess is continuity when cold. Thanks.
Yes or no: The heat pump defrost thermostat is normally open until a call for defrost then it closes. Right? So why is there an "L" in front of the degrees?
Thank you for your video. 1) For my furnace limit switch, PN# L140-60F, what is this value mean? 2) From this video @4:23, from the bottom up, second number 0601, what is this number mean? 3) My ac system keeps running and cannot stop (if I want to turn it off), would the thermal limit switch has to do with cooling (keeps running & not stop)?
Hi there I have an exam next week. Could you help me with this multiple choice question? What type of over temperature protection is used in forced air convection heaters? A) a thermal cut out snap disc B) an alloy cartridge link C) linear thermal limit D) a series of thermal limit snap discs
I pulled a high limit on a high efficiency gas furnace, but failed to notice what position it was in before removing it. It's a L250-25F Nordyne part for Norydyne furnace. From a vertical position, it can be installed slanted right or left with sensor up or down. There was no air dam below this switch, but was something off to the left of it... possibly the heat exchanger. Can you tell me the correct position for this switch. Switch sensor is about 3 inches deep into furnace from the front face of the furnace it's mounted onto. Red leads about 3" long with black mounting plate with offset notches top and bottom.
Hi. Awesome video. I was working on my sisters furnace a while ago, couldn’t figure out. Burners will come on but shut right off with couple of seconds then as blower ran it would turn on igniter but wouldn’t open gas valve. Got 2.6 micro amps on flame sensor for a the couple of seconds burners fired. All other safeties ohmed out good. Is it processor board? Thanks
hi, i bought htr24v69t11 double poles fan limit switch, however top poles are always open, is that intended ? i thought both top abd bottom poles are normally closed unless temperture reach 105 degrees. did i bought defect one ?
just got a blower motor and squirrel cage motor is 3/4 hp motor ,,capacitor is 40 UF, never seen one that large for furnace blower ,the motor plate says 40 UF,,,,,Have you ever seen this size ?????
Thank you for making this video. I have voltage on one side of a new F110-20 fan switch but it never gets warm enough to actually turn the blower on. The furnace does run and heats up (and the heat spreader gets hot) but the switch itself never changes state. I pulled it out and ohmed it while it was on a space heater and it does change state so the switch is good. Does anyone know why it might not be getting hot enough when the furnace is running? I'm really confused. lol.
Follow up: I pulled the thermoswitch out and ran a heat probe into the slot and ran the furnace. It never got higher that 95 degrees at the switch. I double checked the inducer motor and it is running and has a good seal against the frame. I also put a probe up by the heat exchange and it got up to 190. I got scared after that and turned the furnace back off. Anyone got any idea what might be going on because I'm lost. lol.

Greg, greetings from San Antonio, TX., where we have had one long hot dry summer. All the licensed hvac companies have been busy. Being retired from the hvac field, I have easily transferred experience reading schematics and understanding logic functions of timers etc. to my Speed Queen electric dryer ADE3LRGS171TW0 and Amana electric dry NED4655EW1. The Speed Queen has a part labeled cycling thermostat, that controls cabinet temperature settings from the fabric temperature switch. This part has a N/C set of contacts, that open due to the heating element in the part, so this part has 4 terminals, 2 for the contacts and 2 for the heater. The part reads L 153-15F. Your valuable video has provided important information. Thanks for your added insight on reading these parts.
Glad that it helped aliso 82!
My switch L145 -30F, Great video confirmed what the numbers mean and I was able to resolve issue. Issue I had was end of heat cycle the blower was turning off too early. My system has air dam limit switch. I removed air dam during summer to help lower static pressure for best A/C flow. After understanding how limit switch work, I replaced air dam, all is good.
Excellent video Craig
Thanks a lot Kenny!
Light bulb went off at 10:00 in when you mentioned manual reset button, as I suspected my switch and that was problem with my Williams furnace! Thanks
Thanks in advance for any help
Very valuable information is presented, in this video!
Glad you think so!
excellent video
Thank you!
Amazing video! Perfect remaining before the heating season. Thank you. The ones I've asked the supplier give me a replacement for the flame rollout switch. It was my first heating season on the field. He brought me the switch without manual reset and with membrane metal protector. I thought then it's wrong. But he said "its direct replacement". Don't trust everything that seller will tell you. Am I right? Another thing I've to discover than flame rollout switch without metal protector, come on the way faster than with it. typical 5-7 sec. And with metal protector almost +10sec. (15-17sec total). And in case of the open fire, it's faster shot off the gas valve. And prevent wiring inside the cabinet of burning. The point, if you working with the gas furnace repair, YOU will responsible for the Lifes! Put ONLY properly parts. If you don't sure, ask the expert. Or live the job. You will save someone life.
100% agree on multiple topic you are mentioning. I always told the students that you are responsible for other peoples lives if you do something wrong when it comes to furnaces and water heaters, thanks a lot Tapch MC! Also yes always read and compare ratings and replace items with the same model whenever possible!

Awesome detailed explanations
Thanks a lot Salvatore!
Could you do a video on the workings of defrost termination and how the x terminal on an 8145 style time clock functions
Christopher, thank you for letting me know what you would like to see!
Thanks learning a lot
Awesome, thanks Charles!

Hi, does the wiring matter as in which goes on which terminal? Thanks super video
Thanks for sharing this information friend

which terminial is the voltage terminal??
thank's partner for sharing!!!!!.
Thanks Jimbola77!
Great video. Very informative, thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Thanks a lot Deanmartin1966!
So what would happen if u had a switch that was L150-40F and replaced it with a L170-40F it's not that much different
Great video I have a question. I have a wall furance giving me trouble. I believe the trouble I'm having is with the limit safety switches the high heat switch was bad and now i want to replace the high and low limit switch just to make sure . these switches turn on & off the blower motor. the numbers of the switches are F135-1.5 R9V and the other is L180-3.5 V9V My question is the last three letters/numbers on it what do they mean are they important?
thank you for the video.
Hi, Great vid. I have a 5 prong thermal switch. Not 100% sure how to test. Whirlpool 307250 Thermostat. I get the two main prongs, but what reading should the 3 in the center be showing? My guess is continuity when cold. Thanks.
Great videos!
Do you have anything for NATE test?
Not at this time, thanks for letting me know what you would like to see though!
Impressive 🫡
Is there a way to check a d.a.s sensor on a zoning system
Do you have a good source/link to find these?? I have been scouring the Internet for a Coleman L195 and have had NO luck anywhere.
Very nice 👍
I have a burned relay switch 47-20045-06 with L130F and L9039. I bought a new switch with L130F and A1813A. Can I replace with it ?
On a carrier zone system, can a failed outdoor temp sensor (No ots error code at time of diagnostic) cause the zone board to not operate the dampers?
Chris not sure on that one. I am assuming you are talking infinity with zoning.
Great explanation. I am a little confused, what would be the switch for when the temp rises it shuts down whatever it is connected to? Thanks
A high limit switch.
Hi there I have an exam next week. Could you help me with this multiple choice question?
What type of over temperature protection is used in forced air convection heaters?
A) a thermal cut out snap disc
B) an alloy cartridge link
C) linear thermal limit
D) a series of thermal limit snap discs
What textbook is this out of? Forced air heaters use one or more snap discs in series like in the video, thanks!
Great video, what Does l and f stands for, why didn’t they just called them by nc and no
I agree, that would be a lot simpler! I try to remember it as F= Full open
L= Locked closed
Thanks for the info
You bet

I did a video on troubleshooting flame rectification. Check out "acservicetech flame rectification" thanks!
hi, i bought htr24v69t11 double poles fan limit switch, however top poles are always open, is that intended ? i thought both top abd bottom poles are normally closed unless temperture reach 105 degrees. did i bought defect one ?
if i click it will it mess it up
THANX
just got a blower motor and squirrel cage motor is 3/4 hp motor ,,capacitor is 40 UF, never seen one that large for furnace blower ,the motor plate says 40 UF,,,,,Have you ever seen this size ?????
Wow I must say that is an odd one for sure. No usually they are 25uf or lower. That is a high number even though you are at 3/4 hp
however you will need to follow the manufacturer rating on that one, thanks!
Thank you for making this video.
I have voltage on one side of a new F110-20 fan switch but it never gets warm enough to actually turn the blower on. I got scared after that and turned the furnace back off.
Anyone got any idea what might be going on because I'm lost. lol.
Thumbs up

Thanks
Yeah automatic resetting rollout switch makes no sense at all
First comment!
Thanks Christopher!
