Getting this professionally done for my supra in 2 weeks. took me a while to even find someone who does the work. most upholstery's rejected this job. no way i'm doing this myself.
Tips if u want to try and do this: 1. Split the optic fibres into groups of 20 30. It s ok to untie them from both ends, u will be able to restore the shape for the light source end after u finish to drill and glue all the fibres. It will be much easier this way, than working with all of them at once. 2. If you change the material on the roof, do not use fabric. Use leather, alcantara, suede whatevere u want, but not fabric. It will cling when you indert the fibres and most probably damage the material, and will also be harder to insert the fibres. 3. Let only 10 20 cm of fibre on the downwards side of the roof, before u glue them, so u have as long fibre as possible when u install it. On my car for example, i cannot install the light source on the roof, i had to put it in the trunk, so i need quite long fibres. Good luck and have fun!
This is bad ass, I might do this to my truck! Always loved this feature but little did I know I was one TH-cam search from realizing it was a aftermarket possibility. Great video!
I do not mean this disrespectfully , I’ve never seen it in person so I guess why? What’s the intrigue? Like for those wanting to do this have you seen it in person?
I see the video is around a year old now. Very interested to know how good or bad the part has been after a year, in terms of brightness and if there has been any issues with the part itself!
for anyone doing this, when you cut the fibres do it at a 45 degree angle and do the opposite for the next one, that way the brightness changes and it looks more elegant and like stars instead of cheap lights. Thats how rolls royce does it.
Wanna do this to my e39 bc I'm already taking the headliner out to paint it black. But this looks like a full day project at least if I do it by myself.
I was considering this as i drew up a plan for my birth constellation to do this with. Looks easy and intimidating. But its for my 04 Land Rover Discovery 2. Redoing the headliner after all updates and repairs. Thx for sharing.
I have a customer wanting this done but am wondering about couple of things. Is it advisable to go further forward on the headliner i.e. closer to the windshield than shown? Also, do the components rattle after installation and take up a lot of room?-posing a headliner reinstallation issue?
If you are worried about rattling you can probably glue the components to the metal roof instead of the headliner, it depends on the headliner if there is enough room I say just take it off and measure before you put it in to make sure you have the space
What a beautiful car. I love the purple. Headliner looks awesome. I would of done maybe 5 or 6 stars and tell people it's a cloudy night. Haha Good job.
It looks good, but I don't know if this will last long in the heat. The car is black, so it absorbs more heat. Hot glue melts at around 250 F and cars don't reach half that temperature, but I think hot glue starts to break down over time especially in the heat. Either way though, it's pretty cool!
Good job man! Looks great. If you ever decide you want the extra cigarette lighter (12v port) you could always wire it to an ignition wire. There’s almost always an ignition wire or “remote turn on” wire, easily accessible, near the radio! Your car is beautiful :)
I just earned yourself a subscriber it worked I found the kit in the link very pleased how it came out the star liner came out Alr better in the dark but in the day I can see the little holes but it’s fine I like it
For instance, since it’s very low power, if you were doing what I do, I sometimes I go cross-country to see my sister and I will sleep in the car at a truckstop or something like that that would make a wonderful nightlight. I wonder can you fix it so it it gently sucks off the battery because or put a battery on it so it could be out on for a few hours at night just wondering.
If I added this service to my car detailing business how much should I charge per vehicle/hour of labor? How much did the materials cost altogether and is an auto garage a necessity for this project? Thanks bro, keep on inspiring others with these awesome videos.
@@albanhuna2252 $1500 for a starlight headliner install is insane. The kit itself only costs $70 and should only take about 2 hours in total to complete. You're looking at a $350 job at the most. Maybe $400.
What about somehow drilling down just enough to get the fiber optic cables to just rest on the roof side of the fabric? Are they bright enough to show through a layer of fabric?
everyone complaining about how you have to remove the headliner to install these probably shouldnt be installing anything on a car🤣🤣 now how else did you think starlight was gonna be installed
How did you get some to look brighter or like a bigger star? Did you just double up the fiber optic line? Or were some of the lines bigger than the others?
I would really like to know if the fiber cables or any cables from the installation rattle after installation when you are driving? That is the only fear stopping me from installing them
The brush was a solid idea, but should probably use it before adding in the lighting next time. That way you don’t damage/disturb the fiber optic lines while brushing
I've been trying to figure out which kit to purchase, I see good reviews for Chinly and I see that's the one you've purchased. The finished job looks amazing and exactly how I pictured it would. How did you get some to look brighter or like a bigger star? Did you just double up the fiber optic line? Or were some of the lines bigger than the others?
