    I honestly have little interest in this type of game but I watched the entire thing (at 2:30am no less) for the pleasure of having you explain it to me, Rodney.😄 You're just so dang good at explaining that you make learning a new game fun instead of the chore that it can sometimes be. Thank you for your service to the board gaming world!👏 I hope to see your smile and your box flips for many years to come! 😊

    I'm not particularly drawn to train games but this does look pretty cool. I'm sure I would be just as terrible at it as I am at any game that requires bids or investing... but I'd have fun losing anyway. :D

    • @WatchItPlayed

      One of the nice things is that it gives you a starting bidding amount, which means you're not totally on your won to assess a trains value :)

    It's actually the Irish Pound, or Punt, which was used before the Euro. Different currency but the same symbol as the British pound.

    • @WatchItPlayed

      Oh yes, I've been hearing plenty about this in the comments :)

    • @saintlysquirrelsminecraftworld
      @saintlysquirrelsminecraftworld ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Actually Daemonstrator, in 1826 the Irish currency became valueless, and people in Ireland had to use the British pound. Until Ireland became Independent from Britain, with it's own Goverment. Most of the railways in Ireland were built during the time, when Britain ruled Ireland. So that means that Rodney was right in the video, when he said British Pounds.

    I'm impressed, I expected you to say Irish Pounds, which I assume would be anachronistic... when is this game meant to be set? Either way it should technically be Pound Sterling, rather than British Pounds, because it was made as a unified currency across the whole empire, but thankfully that doesn't really matter anymore, and I'm sure the Irish people of the time would be happy with you othering the British that way.
    Also, nice Dollars slip at 8:05

    • @WatchItPlayed
      @WatchItPlayed  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah, I was going by the £, and assumed it was British pound. Looks like my international currency knowledge was poor. Hope it didn’t interfere with your ability to follow the rules!

    • @anthonybailly8467
      @anthonybailly8467 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The problem with this is that Ireland had it's own Pound (the Irish Pound) which was the Irish currency until the Euro was introduced (for the Republic anyway) depending on when the game is set, it might actually be more correct to say "Irish Pound" rather than British Pound, as most of Ireland doesn't use the British Pound - only Northern Ireland currently does.

    • @SheezyBites
      @SheezyBites 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@anthonybailly8467 You're correct, but the Irish Pound was a more recent introduction, and for much of it's circulation the Irish rail system was nationalised. All of the companies specified did operate during the Irish Pound but only fairly briefly, and long after their growth under colonial rule. I ask the setting because without a year I can't truly be sure, but given the game looks to be about the various companies' earliest days then they would still be using the British currency, the Pound Sterling.

    A game based in Ireland using British pounds as currency . . . not sure the game designers really thought the implications of this one thru!

    • @WatchItPlayed
      @WatchItPlayed  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Actually the rules don’t call it that, that’s what I called it because that’s what the currency symbol meant to me, and I’m not as informed as I should be about world currency’s apparently. Hopefully that didn’t prevent you from understanding how to play the game though!

      @@wm2552 His math was correct. There is a misprint on the board. 3 towns paid out (£2 x 3 = £6) and 2 cites paid out (£4 x 2 = £8), which gives £14 (£6 + £8). £14 / 3 shares = £4.6 each, rounded up it's £5 each. The board incorrectly says £6, and this is confirmed by the publisher. The second printing corrects it.

    The biggest problem with this game is that it looks boring and it sounds boring. Too bad, because it seems to be a rather lovely little game, easy to teach and quick to play. But with my group, it would get boo'd off the table as soon as I opened up the map and mentioned the word "shares". :(
