Red Wing Chelsea Boots Resoled

These Red Wings are quite new, but had plastic sole guards and fibre midsoles. The sole guards crumbled and the soles split, allowing water to penetrate the soles. It required a full resole with new leather mid soles. I also redesigned the construction a little. Instead of stitching right through the sole guards, I place the sole guards on top of the stitching. This means that they will not need a restitch on the next replacement of the sole guards. It also protects the stitching, allowing them to last longer without expensive repairs. This is good quality shoes made MUCH better. They will now last for decades, and will be cheap to service.
The job cost ca €220 (dec 2021).

My Red Wings also look like this! Whatever happened to quality control? Profitability (and a lack of management judgment) seems to have replaced a tradition of pride in workmanship, spoiling the earlier established values in many "heritage" companies. Unfortunately, it looks like purchasing from Vibram must have fallen between the cracks. Were these boots made in China, or another offshore operation, or here in the USA? DJ in Knoxville TN

Går det inte möjligtvis att spika fast med mindre spikar den främre slitsulan om man inte vill sy den? Eller litar du på att limmet/cementen håller fast den ordentligt? Tråkgit med floppy sula, varit med om det med slitsulor på Oxford och Derby skor!

No I wouldn't say that. They are usually quite good, but different models have different constructions. In this case I would say that they dropped the ball a bit. But usually Red Wings are really sturdy quality boots.
