- Timothy Spall is one of those faces and voices you know so well, but might night be able to recall his name... that is, unless you know Mike Leigh's work. They have collaborated for over 30 years. And this year, premiering at Cannes, the remarkable account of J.M.W. Turner. Spall spoke to David Poland about his life as a character actor, working with Mike Leigh, and his award-winning turn in this film.
Shot in Los Angeles, November 2014

Great actor. Knowledgeable and articulate about his craft, and very modest. Thoroughly underrated.
Mr Turner is a great movie... Timothy Spall nails the lead role with perfection....a must see.
would prefer a taller ' Turner' with tattered elegance
A true gentleman. The real heroes of the movie business are people like Mr Spall who can outact any starlet in his sleep and is a true craftsman. Never seen anything bad or off note from this gentleman.
What an amazing actor he is... And a fascinating man.
sure...but he is in front of a camera...
I adore this human.
falling for THEATRE
I ditto what has been already said in these comments, "A rare actor, this is an amazing man." I thoroughly enjoyed listening to Timothy Spall and felt his enthusiasm while he discussed his latest work, Mr. Turner. He is infectious, a true artist in every sense of the word.
will you realise that the ' story ' is presentef by an actor...stop presuming to have an inkling to anyone's character.
A rare actor in that he doesn't mind being unattractive for the betterment of his character, when you think about it there aren't many people like that.
I like it when you include the ending when you say thanks, otherwise, great interview
and
a nice bounceback from the impenetrable Tommy Lee Jones, Spall is much more generous.
I was never aware of Timothy Spall till I saw him in Patrice Chereau's "Intimacy" and I was floored by the honesty -- if that's the word -- of his performance. Wonderful interview.
subjective judgement of an ACTOR!
Character actor not so much, or at least no more ! Amazing performance. Played the hell out of this part. Congratulations Spall and thank you for your work.
so pissed he wasn't nominated for an oscar. This performance was legendary
here, here, my fav. It's a movie of all time. I watched it dozens of times
Magnifique actor!!! Bravo.
you may be the rare intellect to realise that TS IS an actor.
Monet couldpaint outside because paints in tubes had been invented; Turner had to return to studio to mix paints.
artists could use sheep bladders to carry paint
I love how he prefers to refer to the ´Scottish Play´ instead of actually saying ' MacBeth' :)
That is done.
I am not scared of you Tim, I like the character you played in Harry Potter a lot, I think your a very good actor
Watching Harry Potter and the character you played
I was actually a little bit intimidated by you
I don’t have anything but nice things to say about you
For what it’s worth
Yeah discover it for yourself.... here's the picture!
wat a great actor that man is..shows you don't have to be a pretty boy...to be a great actor............and a huble man too,,,respect timothy
uhuh..egomaniac....
