So looking forward to see this film! I once held Turner's sketchbook in my hands at the British Museum and also at the Yale Center for British Art. I am a "sketchbook keeper" and was so deeply moved by his pages.
"He's ruined a masterpiece!" Really? That stilted claptrap of a painting impressed no one. Even the King - for whom such a painting as this was aimed and Turner hoped would would purchase it - rejected it as a visual bore. Too many cooks were in one this one and Turner's bid for marine accuracy sunk the painting. Turner was a great painter no question, but this was not one of his "masterpieces."
