    This is hilarious. I love how they pulled off the Bal-more accents and did a good job capturing the feel of a Baltimore neighborhood.

      Depending on the season, the fire hydrant would be either blue and white or black and orange.

    I'm from Baltimore and remember watching this when it aired. Doubled over laughing when she moved next door. Too true for a lot of families. I ventured further. Two blocks. :-)

    Growing up in the 70's in No. Virginia before cable, we could get WBAL 45 in Baltimore via TV antenna. The signal was weak but when channels 4, 5, 7, 9 or 20 didn't have anything we liked, we would watch 45. The local commercials w / the thick Balmor' accents, were funnier than the cartoons Capt Chesapeake had on LOL. Go watch "Mr. Ray's Hair Weave" and you'll see what I mean.

    Just for the record, Johnny U has something to do with EVERYTHING! Greatest QB ever. He called his own plays! Except for audibles at the line, modern day QBs don’t compare.

    You can really hear the Welsh influence in the Baltimore accent from centuries ago. It's a mix of Welsh, Southern U.S. with some urban Philly sprinkled in. Depending on what part of the city will depend on which you'll hear more of with each influence. Compared to a Philly accent, the Baltimore accent sounds southern but compared to a deep southern accent it sounds northern.

      huh?

    • @GTX1123
      @GTX1123 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@mjgabor1528 i.e. Baltimore is a very old PORT CITY going all the way back to early colonial America. Most of the early settlers were from England and then you later had settlers coming from places like Poland etc. So the Baltimore accent differs a little depending on what part of the city you're in e.g. in areas where there were a lot of Polish immigrants the accent is slightly different. Many of the earlier settlers to Baltimore were from Wales which is in on the western coast of the UK and is where MANY sailors came from - even including "Blackbeard" (Edward Teach) so you can hear a twinge of the Welsh influence in the accent. Since Baltimore is in the state of Maryland which was at one time considered to be a Southern state (it is BELOW the Mason Dixon line) there is a bit of a southern twang in the accent. i.e. To this day in rural Maryland "Yawl" is still widely used versus Pennsylvania where "Yinz" is used in southwestern PA and "You's" is used in Philly. But some Baltimoreans also say "doring" instead of "during" which sounds identical to Philly. Why? Go look on a map at where Baltimore is and where Philly is. So there you have it...

    Michael Tucker was born in Baltimore

  • @bilrux

    We Baltimoreans don't pronounce the "W" in "Sparrow's Point." It's more like "Sparris Point," or "Down the point," once the site of a huge steel mill that employed thousands of people. The guy with the hat and leather jacket was an inappropriate Philly Rocky clone, with no relation to B'more. Still, the accents, while overdone, weren't too bad for non-native speakers. I know, because I grew up in one of those rowhouses, and have the congenital Baltimorese nasal twang. I actually got a gig voicing a local radio spot that called for the true accent! :)

      Michael Tucker's accent is real. He's from Baltimore. And Tracy Ullman's accent sucks pretty bad. None of my relatives (or should I saw 'rewadives') sound like that.😕
