I started watching your videos a few weeks ago and have really enjoyed them. Really makes you rethink ones future retirement plans. Madeira looks beautiful.
We are in love with Madeira. We spent the month all around Portugal, and after coming to Madeira, we regret having spent a week in Algarve, when we could have spent here! Looking for rentals and properties to spend some longer stay early next year. And if our work remote arrangements work out, maybe live here too. Thanks for the video!
If I have the opportunity to move to Portugal I would head for the hills, I love the country side . Hills and mountains are my thing but the island looks very welcoming and peaceful. Thanks for sharing.
Your narration is detailed and excellent. Every time i hear a new one it reminds me of the "Date line" show episodes on NBC, and your voice, the style of narration, are so identical as though you were the one speaking in the show. Great job and as always enjoy watching your series.

Hi lovely people We visited Portugal for 26 yrs on various family holidays, but almost exclusively in the Vale do lobo area of the Algarve When we retired from our ex-pat life in the Netherlands( we are Brits) friends advised us to look at the western Algarve for less tourist centric villages..We ended up in one of them close to the lovely and historic town of Lagos. For us it has been a perfect combination.Whilst we loved visiting Madeira, its hills and steep roads we could see would become a problem as we aged( and we are now ten yrs on from when we moved to PT) we also play golf so that was a decider, having so many courses to choose from in the Algarve I agree that it is a must to visit as much of Portugal as you can before deciding. Another thing to bear in mind is the difference in climate from the north to the south. You might think the hottest place would be the Algarve but it is not as its on the cool Atlantic,. Alentejo takes that crownThe north ie Lisbon and Porto experience far more rain and damp and misty conditions than we do

Its so placid, gorgeous and lovely the land, language and the people that seem to hold the charm for visitors, tourists, and retirees to keep flocking over there Madeira, and mainland Portugal. Beautiful vid, thanks Alan! What concerns one must have on the effect or impact of seismic activities that happen now and then though passing off without any consequences to note.
Thanks for the video. I'm an American living in the DC suburbs and going to retire in about 3 years. I'd love to move to Portugal or to the southern coast of Spain around Malaga or the Canary Islands. I know there is nightlife in Madeira, bars and restaurants and stuff like that but is there also theater and concert venues. Living just outside DC my wife and I go into the city often to visit The National Gallery of Art, Smithsonian, The Kennedy Center and National Theater for concerts and theater. As much as Madeira looks calming and peaceful I think I'd miss big city attractions, unless that's there also. Advice?
Ola BasementStudio Thanks for watching and supporting our channel. Yes, Madeira does have concerts and a theater. But you would consider them to be more local productions. Keep in mind that flying to the mainland is simple and very.cost effective. So if this is where you choose you can be as connected to the big city as you want and can afford. However mainland Portugal has plenty to offer and you be where you choose to live based upon your interests and needs. Hope this helps. Have a wonderful day Leslie and Alan

For me Madeira is totally unique compared to any places in Portugal. It's not for everyone because it's a small island in line with Morocco and you may feel detached. The weather is tolerable and steady year round. It's like a big garden island so if you like green, lush, ocean, spectacular views, fresh air, friendly people, great health care, I would recommend you visit Madeira before you make your decision. If you like to slow down and live a simple healthy life, Madeira is a good choice. Alan's videos are amazing because unlike others, he narrates as he shows us the island.
