    Great video, and I loved the side by side comparison. I was interesting to see what the gas bike would claw back and close the gaps. It seemed clear, the more technical, or the wetter the terrain the electric bike has clear advantages.

    Great video Ed! You might conclude that neither bike holds you back…both allow you to ride to your capability

    Nice video! I just grabbed a 2022 Freeride E-XC about a month ago. Curious about your tire choice for this bike? Any recommendations for mud/soft terrain

    • @edfessler
      @edfessler  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      A lot of guys like the Michelin Starcross 5 medium tires. They are a great all around tire. But for mud I like the Starcross 5 soft in the front, and the IRC M5B in the back. The M5B probably does not turn as good as the starcross, but in very muddy conditions it is hard to beat.

    This bike hardly makes sense as an OHV woods bike when it can't do the 30 miles to keep up with the gas bikes. But....I have property like you, Ed,...and I'm really trying to talk myself into one of these!! I still have my old 2000 250MXC 2t when I wanna go do OHV stuff.

    Electric Dirt Bikes are fun. We have the EBeast (Full size) and EFox (Mid size) electric dirt bike with 4 gears and a manual clutch available. Seen in my channel

      What are these?
      Are these homemade electric motorcycles?

      @@edfessler These are all new Electric dirt bikes that are fast and are compared to a 250cc gas dirt bike. Message me if you would like a EBeast or EFox. We can arrange shipments to the USA as well from China.

    I think instead of time, look at which one beats you up more in the long run. A 2 hour race can make that difference in 5-6 minutes and the e bike is just easier to ride and manage.

    My take is that if it was all single track, e-bike would have pulled away. The 300 made up major time in the open sections.

    Just a little editing tip... hide your edits/cuts with the B-Roll footage (shots of the bikes). If that doesn't make sense ask me about it later and I'll explain what I mean.

      @@edfessler I think you tried but I still see the cuts. I can sit down with you some time and show you how to make it a clean edit.

    Hi, what is the size of the rear tire? Did you change for a 110/100-18? Thanks!

      Yes, I think that is the size I put on it.

    What would you say your intensity rate while riding like going 100 % or riding at 80%?

    Thanks Ed. Watched all your videos about your electric bike. Nice to see real life utility.
    Is your suspension (front and rear) still stuck ? If not, what are the mods you did.
    Thinking about that bike to ride it in my backyard. Little tight track. You think neighbours at 200 feets away will be annoyed ?
    Thanks again !

    • @edfessler
      @edfessler  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are very welcome. My suspension is still stock. Good for smaller or medium stuff, but not great for big hits. I don't mind slowing down a bit for the big stuff.
      The motorcycle is very quiet, I don't think you will bother anyone.

    Hi Ed -- great comparison. I've got about 21 riding hours on my KTM E XC and was wondering what hand guards you swapped the stock out with? Those look really cool!

    • @edfessler
      @edfessler  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you. They are from Enduro Engineering. Look up "EVO BLK DEBRIS DEFLECTORS". I'm not sure the exact part but that was on my receipt. For the plastic guards, look up "EVO2 Orange Plastic Outer", also from Enduro Engineering. I cut 1/2 inch off each side of the handlebars to snake through trees easier, and used threaded bar ends to make a more secure mount. I bought all these items from "KTM of North Texas", which is where I bought my electric motorcycle. Cutting off half an inch pushes the hand guard mounts very close to the triple tree. I intended to redrill the hole for the mount to bring the clamps farther out from the triple tree, but I have not actually done that yet.

    Ed, how often do you have to swap batteries ?

    • @edfessler
      @edfessler  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      A battery will last 18-24 miles or 1:15 to 2:00 of riding time depending on how hard you ride it. I swap it once in a 2 hour cross country race.

    How many hours/years do you have on the 300?

    • @edfessler
      @edfessler  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have 239 hours and 3798 miles on the KTM 300. I have owned it since 2005, but there were a few years I did not ride it much due to back issues.

    I ride green lanes in UK few nearby but a good 10 miles road work means I've got to go home before I even start off road. Or take van & ride around in circles. Doesn't work for me.

    Great video! Back to back rides are a great way to compare the characteristics of each bike. I've always got a 300 2-stroke, 350 4-stroke, and an electric dirt bike in my garage. My 2020 KTM Freeride E-XC has about 100 hours and 1500 miles on it. Amazing how quick it can go in the woods with just 24 HP. No worries about gear, clutch, engine RPM...just throttle and brakes on the Freeride E-XC! I have done a lot of lap time comparisons with electric vs dirt. This was a fun KTM 300 Erzberg vs KTM 350 Kailub Russell vs 2020 KTM Freeride E-XC lap time comparison....2-stroke vs 4-stroke vs Electric...less than a second between them! th-cam.com/video/QIu5s9RFiXo/w-d-xo.html

      @edfessler  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, those are all very capable off-road motorcycles. It seems we can only go so fast as long as we have a good motorcycle with reasonable power, brakes, suspension and handling. :-) But I agree that the simplicity of the electric motorcycle with no gearshift and clutch is a big plus.

    300 already loses if it needs a board to stand upright.

    hahahahhaahahah, what a joke, you are comparing 12 hrsp to 50 hrsp... an apple to a grapefruit. not at all the same and 12 horse power is not at all an advantage ANYWHERE. yes woods is about low end power and torque. the free ride's got nothing in the race world, NO ONE is in the top ten with a electric bike in any GP enduro, US national enduro or GNCC at all!!! and 'you raced 300's for a long time' 2005 model? are you kidding? try a new 2t bike. Any newer 125 is as much fun and wat faster, would wax that e bike all day long.

    • @edfessler

      Do you ever get down to Kentucky? You are welcome to come down to the track I did the test on and see if you can beat me and my 12 hrsp electric motorcycle. You are welcome to use the 50 hrsp motorcycle of your choice, 2022 or whatever. Or if you really want to give yourself a challenge, you can try it on one of those wat faster 125's. :-)
      This is all in good fun of course! :-)
