Homework assignment: List 5 of the items manipulated in the photo. 1. Cleaned up the trash and distracting objects 2. Removed the tree on the left 3. Edited the lens flare; deleted lens flare 4. Removed the road from the second image, left only the desert 5. In a panoramic image, they edited the uneven edges to make it look complete
This has been a tool within photoshop since about the time he posted it. Totally legit, though at the time back in 2010 I was with you... I thought it was fake.
I really thought this was too good to be true, until I got CS5 for myself and tried it. Now I'm able to rotate slightly off-angle photos, and fill in the corners perfectly. It's amazing
Completely insane! I am blown away by this. I have done many projects where i had to remove glasses, or trash, and of course random things in the background. This feature will make my work SO much easier.
Truly amazing. That's all I can say. The developers at Adobe have really produced an amazing product. I see no reason for it to not improve anymore than this in the future as well. It will be great to see what they come up with.
i don't get how the people who prgrammed this have the brains to put all of this into code... its easy enough to imagine it, but to make it as easy as this on a computer??!?! genius maan
You have no idea how many hours I have spent editing pictures in photoshop the old fashioned way. Now we have "Content-Aware Fill"?!?! All I can say is wow. - Graphic Design student
This is just amazing! I seriously can not wait for 20 years into the future. The tech we will have will be incredible. Hoping the US's economy doesn't come falling down around us...
wow man the Adobe team consists of freaking geniuses see its looking at the adobe team that gets me motivated to learn about software programming so i can one day be part of their team and contribute and hopefully be part of the team that makes the CS7 series or CS6 if adobe's willing to wait 10 years
It's easy to remove the lens flare from the bench and her back. Just use smudge to remove - you need to be careful how much you use because it has to look clean, then press filter then press noise and add a tiny bit of noise to the image so it matches the grain of the rest of the image. Seriously, it can take about two mins or so to do!
i'm a computer tech.student ,yesterday @ classes one of the teachers(Jean Gosselin ) explain some features of this adobe photoshop cs5,in the beginning i thought ...ok another picture editing program...but he sayd something ,also he remarked to write it down ''Content-Aware '' so i you tube this keyword and......waw.... i was amazed by this video, definitively this is a very powerfull program ,imagine what more can you be able to do with this program ...i will learn to work with it
I'm a Paint Shop user and hate Photoshop series. However, now I should respect Photoshop developers. It's absolutely amazing, impressive, and fantastic! This will save my time. Time is money. It will be pay for me even if the Photoshop is expensive (but still, the cheaper the better ;-) )
I am simply amazed that you have powerful enough signal processing algorithms to making something from nothing. This has made the somewhat clunky tools like the magic eraser and the magic wand into tools that are as intuitive as it gets. I am amazed by the quality of the after effect especially in the desert scene. You will probably save enough time in the workflow in a month to pay for cs5.
It's a great tool. But this demo is a little tiny bit misleading, because it works best on grass and sky (and other consistent surface textures like concrete or sand etc), and that's what they're showing in this demo, but when you start to introduce complexities into the equation, the tool gets a little confused (shadows, clouds, structures, etc). Don't misunderstand, this is a HUGE leap forward and will help to get work done much more quickly, but it will still take skill to retouch, no doubt
Holy crap... I'm new to photoshop because of all the amazing features it has. But this looks pretty simple and to say "its amazing" is a understatement. Its impossible lol.
If you have CS5 you will have to go top menu edit fill and select content aware. If you have CS6 go to your spot healing brush tool then click and hold to switch to content aware
omg, this is about to totally change everything. so many new possibilities, and so much time is going to be saved :))))) looks like a major step up from cs4!
That's just insane..when do we get the neurobands so the image we wanted or were going to imagine pops up before we realize thats what we were going to do ? That's just nutty !
@quickwolf easy, because it goes from down to up on the lead in. Okay, look at it this way; to 'invent' the border manually (which does get done by people quite often) - you would take what is there, and mirror it. If your white space is to the left, you'd take what substance is there to the right, flip it horizontally, and and put it in the white space... then you would add a bit of randomness with the clone tool, and hope it looked good. I'd say the computer is doing much the same thing.
i got cs5 and this dose work to the tee, i found a picture that had a lot of litter on it and i was able to take all the litter out and the shit looked real, like the way the picture was supposed to be as if someone picked up all the litter, nice tutorial two thumbs up!!!!!
It's Photoshop CS5 Extended. But get CS6; you can get the beta version free 60-day trial from Adobe right now. CS6 has Move Tool for the 'content aware' function demonstrated in this video. In other words, you could take the woman and the bench and move it to the other side of the layout and it would look perfect. In earlier versions of PS, before these tools, you'd spend hours trying to do these things.
1. Take a picture 2. Increase the canvas size of the picture by 10 pixels 3. Select the 10 pixel white space on the outside edge 4. Content-aware fill 5. Repeat steps 1-4 indefinitely
Why are comments appearing about this 'taking the skill away from photoshop'? The progression of technology is essentially to take the skill away from doing things by making them more accessible and easier to do.
@LordShagrath madbadger didn't suggest for a second that the talented professionals at adobe should not be paid properly. He said that if the sale price was dropped then number of units sold would increase, possibly to the point where overall revenues would compensate for the reduced price. This would obviously mean more profit for the software designers.
@matrixate lol that's very true, they are particularly geometric pictures. You can definitely tell that this function works best with repetition and patterns. Still, it would save a lot more time compared to the spot healing brush of all the previous versions even if it won't work perfectly 100% of the time.
Everybody who is complaining that this is going to somehow make it easier for people to be photographers--how is that a bad thing? It's bad that it's not as difficult now to produce high-quality images?
@loupremo - They didn't put it in because they hadn't developed the technology. It's not a conspiracy, it's just the nature of technology. Sometimes it's also a matter of the designers not thinking of the tasks people will want to do with the software.
I think I love you...Just a play on my thoughts about how amazing your tutorial is. I am about to upgrade my CS4 and wondered why I should. Now I know Mahalo so much for your inspiring tutorial
@J0tunhe1m It is similar to the healthing tool, were as the healing tool with take information around the area you click and find a spot on the image that has the same colours and pattern as it, this uses multiple samples from the image. Basicly to put it simply it takes peices from the image and puts it together like a jigsaw puzzle.
Most of this is anything but impressive, And he's Exaggerating the "REMOVING THE TREE WOULD BE SUPAR HARD" Only thing I'm impressed about is final demonstration where it built out the image.
Homework assignment: List 5 of the items manipulated in the photo.

What sorcery is this!?
Anyone here for homework? lol
Hell yeah dude
Thats incredible.
Anyone who does this stuff manually on a regular basis has been waiting for this type of automation.
Well Done!
That panorama and the road, just amazing.
This seems like an April Fool's joke...
Uhh, why?
AJI The upload date, his delivery, the actual program itself...
This has been a tool within photoshop since about the time he posted it. Totally legit, though at the time back in 2010 I was with you... I thought it was fake.
Holy crap, I remember how much focus and precision you'd need to do this stuff before. THANK GOD FOR CONTENT-AWARE FILL
I just used this to expand a background in order to change the image proportions and it worked GREAT
I really thought this was too good to be true, until I got CS5 for myself and tried it. Now I'm able to rotate slightly off-angle photos, and fill in the corners perfectly. It's amazing
I cant think how it would be possible to get such accurate and natural results...
Completely insane! I am blown away by this. I have done many projects where i had to remove glasses, or trash, and of course random things in the background. This feature will make my work SO much easier.
This is amazing. They aren't programmer's, they are wizards.
Truly amazing. That's all I can say. The developers at Adobe have really produced an amazing product. I see no reason for it to not improve anymore than this in the future as well. It will be great to see what they come up with.

- Graphic Design student
photoshop is seriously the most legendary thing. ever.
I have a panorama of 10 pics in portait format and tried this and it worked real well
you have to try it yourself to really believe it.
Wow, these features are really amazing, and I had no idea something like this was even possible, Great job Adobe!
Most important feature ever. Fantastic for photographers looking to clean up errant parts of an otherwise pretty picture
This is just amazing! I seriously can not wait for 20 years into the future. The tech we will have will be incredible. Hoping the US's economy doesn't come falling down around us...
wow man the Adobe team consists of freaking geniuses see its looking at the adobe team that gets me motivated to learn about software programming so i can one day be part of their team and contribute and hopefully be part of the team that makes the CS7 series or CS6 if adobe's willing to wait 10 years
Wow. I think I just creamed myself.
This is probably the single best feature I ever seen in any photo editing software.
I don't know anything about image editing, but to me that seems like magic.
It's easy to remove the lens flare from the bench and her back. Just use smudge to remove - you need to be careful how much you use because it has to look clean, then press filter then press noise and add a tiny bit of noise to the image so it matches the grain of the rest of the image. i just got CS5, its amazing! content aware is sooo much easier than spot healing for hours
i'm a computer tech.student ,yesterday @ classes one of the teachers(Jean Gosselin )

man how can this program keep getting any better??? godly cs5!! me wants
OMG!! It is not even heal any more, but reconstruction, huh? The details in the last picture (eg.shadow) were filled in excellent job!!!
I am simply amazed that you have powerful enough signal processing algorithms to making something from nothing. This has made the somewhat clunky tools like the magic eraser and the magic wand into tools that are as intuitive as it gets. I am amazed by the quality of the after effect especially in the desert scene. You will probably save enough time in the workflow in a month to pay for cs5.
this is FANTASTIC! I was shocked when it fixed the panorama, haha.
Man, cleaning the environment one content aware click at a time. Good stuff.
Don't misunderstand, this is a HUGE leap forward and will help to get work done much more quickly, but it will still take skill to retouch, no doubt
the last part was FREAKING amazing!!!!
Oh My God. I used this, and I swear, it it AMAZING and PURE GENIUS. Thanks, Adobe!
this is the best photo editor ever
Holy crap... I'm new to photoshop because of all the amazing features it has. But this looks pretty simple and to say "its amazing" is a understatement. Its impossible lol.

this new adobe should be called magicshop 5, cause the things in this video don't even look possible. amazing.
i had no idea about this feature, and I've been playing with it all day! AMAZING
This is insane, glad to see so many people looked at this, I share your reactions :) go Adobe!
After this panorama trick i was stunned, it's CRAAAAZY!
This is freakin great. The hours saved on edited pictures! Must buy!
Its amazing what technology can do now-a-days
omg, this is about to totally change everything. so many new possibilities, and so much time is going to be saved :)))))
looks like a major step up from cs4!
Huge respect to your Dev Team...
That's just insane..when do we get the neurobands so the image we wanted or were going to imagine pops up before we realize thats what we were going to do ?
That's just nutty !
O...M...G... CS5 where have you been all my life?
Awesome! Definitely saw some more ways to use Content Aware on some old unusable photos, great job!!
the new content aware tool is class
@quickwolf easy, because it goes from down to up on the lead in. Okay, look at it this way; to 'invent' the border manually (which does get done by people quite often) - you would take what is there, and mirror it. Just had to check & make sure this wasn't posted on 1 April. :) Wow, this is fantastic! :) Cheers, Thea
This is absolutely awesome. Didn't know photoshop can actually do that. Now most of my problems could be solved. I'm gonna get cs5, for free actually.
Thats incredible...Especially the desert!
this is insane! by the time photoshop cs20 comes out we wont need pictures anymore, just photoshop buttons :)
God damn! Even if Cs5 had only this feature I would buy this new version of PS(don't quote me on that)This is truly an upgrade.
Looks shopped to me. I can tell from the pixels and from having seen quite a few shops in my time.
Then: Content aware fill
We: WOW!
Now: Generative fill
We: WOOOW!!!
Adobe is progressing a lot!
i got cs5 and this dose work to the tee, i found a picture that had a lot of litter on it and i was able to take all the litter out and the shit looked real, like the way the picture was supposed to be as if someone picked up all the litter, nice tutorial two thumbs up!!!!!
"Computers Are Your Future" textbook brought me here. Amazing is all I have to say.
this is sick! curious when this will be available!

@radtwelve I agree, the previous two used data from the images, but the last one seemed to know exactly what was on the side
Content aware Phil sure is a smart guy.
AWESOME.
Content-aware features are really awesome.
An excellent idea demonstrated wonderfully. Can't wait to mess around with it.
@Emeraldar
definitely no the guy who created this mind blowing feature...
1. Take a picture
2. Increase the canvas size of the picture by 10 pixels
3. Select the 10 pixel white space on the outside edge
4. Content-aware fill
5. Repeat steps 1-4 indefinitely
This isn't fake.. I downloaded the trial and this is freaking amazing!!!
Amazing. Hurrah for photoshop!
Why are comments appearing about this 'taking the skill away from photoshop'? The progression of technology is essentially to take the skill away from doing things by making them more accessible and easier to do.
BTW, if you are on Windows, Load your Selection, and then hold SHIFT and F5 to get the fill command, choose content aware.
@LordShagrath madbadger didn't suggest for a second that the talented professionals at adobe should not be paid properly. Oh my god... Photoshop is now magic...
Everybody who is complaining that this is going to somehow make it easier for people to be photographers--how is that a bad thing? It's bad that it's not as difficult now to produce high-quality images?
FREAKING MAGIC, HOW DOES IT WORK?
This is awesome. Who can't wait to download this from pirate bay?
This is a killer feature! awesome! HUGE job, adobe devs! keep up the good work
How the hell could this even be possible :O
Adobe guys, you are some geniusses...
These guys were just 9 days early for April Fools.. come on! This is unbelievable!
oh my gosh... that content aware... MAGIC.
Only works well if there's similar surrounding texture, it's basically a 360 degree patch tool.
All of this really has a one way to put. It's classic, you all know it but here goes...
O M G!
Amazing Adobe.
Just think how the researcher come up this much for technique of content-awareness.
Oh this is GOOD!!! Can't wait, this is a huge improvement!
I will never trust another glossy full color ad again!
Awesome...
This is awesome! I just bought PhotoShop CS5 and it works soooo nice! :D thanks team!
That last one was cool
OMG !!! This is intense!! Im definitely upgrading my cs4!!
the most amazing part of the video is that someone paid for that gold course shot
Most of this is anything but impressive,
And he's Exaggerating the "REMOVING THE TREE WOULD BE SUPAR HARD"
Only thing I'm impressed about is final demonstration where it built out the image.
Looks promising.
Imagine if it would only work like that in real life... :)
People! Have you ever thought about future of photoshop? How aweome cs17 will be? *goosebumps*
@ItsArtNotCod I have no idea what you're talking about, but clicking on Window-Workspace-Basic or something like that might solve your problem.
Bryan, I hope you realize what you have brought into this world. I also hope that you make CS6 quickly so I can buy a discounted CS5.
@askeladd5 its used with the "band-aid" shaped tool and/or just deleting a selected area
