I must share a thank-you. My grandmother is in this video (Miss Eureka 1955). She never saw any video from the pageant until I shared the DVD you sent of this a few years back. It was the Best surprise ever. My grandfather had also driven down to watch the pageant before he proposed to her. Very special memory for them both to see this on film for the first time.

The narrator flubs the name and date of the Miss America he specifically mentions. He says, "And the honored guest today is Miss Joanne Meri--." [sound cuts out] "She was Miss America of 1954." The woman featured is Lee Meriwether, who went on to a career in Hollywood. Among her many prominent roles was "Catwoman" in the original Batman, and Betty in Barnaby Jones. Born in Los Angeles, she was Miss San Francisco, 1954; Miss California, 1954; and Miss America, 1955.

i really love the fashion of the early 60s and 50s they were more classy and beautiful. unlike now.. the shorter your clothes and the thicker your makeup, the prettier you are in everyone's eyes.

I like these old contests, but they do look a lot like cattle shows. I cannot believe the opening comments about buisnessmen, none of them are married with kids of course!!!!

My great aunt was Miss San Jose 1955 and Miss Santa Clara 1956. I can not tell if this is her in the video or not. I wish he would have mentioned more of the womens names.

Great video! Nice to see the history of my hometown before the feminists ruined it in the 80's and drove Miss CA pageant out! I saw those protests, the were awful, but Santa Cruz is a huge liberal town now :(
Uh…it sounded rather sexist to me. This is MY hometown, too, but I sure don’t want some lurking photographer calling me “cheesecake”, among other remarks.
